SORA

I wake up from the sound of the bedroom door closing and it startles me awake.

I look around and see Kane's back as he begins to take his jacket off, displaying his large toned muscled arms in his tight black t-shirt.

"You're back." I say sleepily as I begin to sit up.

It's dark outside and I have no idea what time it is, probably late from how quiet it is and how quiet he was trying to be. But with me on edge and being a light sleeper, I wake easily.

Kane undresses down to his boxers and climbs into the bed. He looks exhausted.

"I'm sorry for waking you mate." He says with a frown as he kisses me on the forehead. "Fuck I missed you." Says with a tired groan as he smells the air.

I grab his hand and rub comforting circles around his palm which he loves. "Tell me what happened."

"Sora-"

I interrupt him with a warning glare which he looks taken back by. He huffs then leans back against the headboard.

"Lila killed herself." He says with an annoyed growl. "Left a note on the wall for me and she left her people with a message for you." He says through gritted teeth.

I freeze in my actions. "What was the message?" I ask nervously as I look at Kane who looks deadly mad.

"She wrote 'free' in blood on the wall." He pauses as I gasp covering my mouth in shock. "Her people watched her do it, her last message and words were for you."

I wait for him to speak but when he doesn't I see he is deep in thought.

I curl up into his side which he welcomes and puts his large arm around me proactively. "I can't lose you Sora." He says, barely a whisper.

I hug him. "You won't." I reassure him. "Tell me what she said?" I ask quietly.

He sighs heavily as his hold on me slightly tightens. "What do all love more than life, hate more than death or mortal strife; That which contented men desire; the poor have, the rich require; the miser spends, the spendthrift saves, and all carry to their graves." He says slowly.

"Is that a riddle?" I ask.

How weird for her to use that specific riddle.

I have not heard that since...

He nods. "Even in death, she annoys me." He grunts out. "The answer is nothing."

I feel my face run cold as I feel a shiver go through my entire body.

That is the second time I have heard that riddle.

I can't remember when or from whom but the thought of those words makes me feel uneasy.

I feel a tug as I snap out of my daze to see Kane's worried face in front of me calling my name.

"Where did you go love?" He says worryingly as he looks into my eyes as if for answers.

I think about it hard and nothing comes. "I... I have heard that before... I just don't know where from. I swear it's familiar.." I mumble out.

Kane's large protective instinct kicks in and he covers my body with him as he pushes me down onto the bed with his hovering above mine.

Theirs a wrinkle forming in his forehead as in what he says next is unbelievable to him.

"So have I."

What?

"From who?" I finally ask.

He closes his eyes and his muscles tense above me. I can see he is on edge and trying not to let any emotion slip. But I can read him, whomever has said this is causing his protective instincts to take over.

He opens his eyes and they are now glowing bright yellow. His wolf Dex is here with us.

"The moon goddess came to me in a dream, before I had found you. It was nonsense to me, as it is to everyone but not anymore, it is a warning to us. 'Nothing is nothing and nothing doesn't always mean nothing." He says and I look at him confused.

It sounds like drunk rambling.

"I know what you're thinking." He smirks down at me.

I shrug exhausted and tiredly. He lays beside me and pulls me to his chest as we both let out a satisfying sigh.

"Nothing will ever happen to you, it was not a threat, she watches over you Sora. That was her message for you." He says sleepily as he drifts off to sleep slowly. "The riddle is nonsense, the answer is the answer." He says before he finally falls asleep and I feel him completely relax beside me.

Why would Lilas last breathe be nothing? And why would the moon goddess want me to know nothing?

And why can't I remember her saying those words to me?

I feel like there is more I am missing but I can't remember as I fade slowly to sleep with Kane and shut my eyes.

I let sleep take me and I have one of the greatest nights sleep in a while..

..one with a dream I lost but never forgotten.
