Tenacity

“You won’t know me. I erased myself from you. And I’ll just be gone. Live your life to the fullest.” My mother said through her tears.

Just then, I saw my aunt, at the door.

“Sister! They are coming for you! Let’s go!” She yelled through the door, and opening the window, they hopped on a cloud as they traveled away, leaving my father who was still in a daze.

The scenery shifted, and I felt my hands burning I wanted to destroy the mirror and the whole room. I cast my fire everywhere, and I yelled in pain, my eyes full of tears and sobbing uncontrollably.

If I had known what it was like for my mother, who had to forcefully leave my father just because of the danger, then I could have changed back in time to change the course of my life. How I lived through hell!

This scene in front of me was how my parents protected me.

How I wish I could have known this.

How I wish that I met my mother.

She was so strong.

So strong.

In between my fires, a figure emerged, walking as if it didn’t affect them. She touched the fire burning and licked on it. She had long red hair, cascading down and seemed to camouflage against my fire.

She was wearing a mask that I could only see the golden orbs she has. A crown was on her head resting on it.

“Who are you?” I asked in between breaths, glaring at her and seeing her as a threat if she ever dare to come closer too much.

Since Ace is not with me, I have to stop being too trusting of people. It’s time that I learn my lesson, how many times we have been betrayed.

I have to stop being a damsel in distress and start knowing how to stand up on my own. Protect me from any harm and stop depending on Ace all the damn time...

And knowing I have this power, I know that I will be able to reach more than this.

“Hello, there Kira. You finally learned how to control your powers.” She started to speak, her mature commanding voice was intimidating. Her golden eyes gazed at me, piercing me to the bone and rooting me to the spot. Her expression says that I know her very well, yet she’s very unfamiliar to me.

I knew that she was in a different league with the way she carries herself. I am not dumb enough to be friendly with any threat because it is clear to me that she is indeed too strong for my own good.

I look like a sad lost puppy in front of a big powerful wolf.

Queen Haelyn then added, “We heard your name from the elders, being the first human mate in the whole werewolf realm…I must say you look a lot like her. The resemblance is too uncanny that I felt like the late queen rose over her grave.”

I furrowed my eyebrows, “Like whom?”

She nodded in understanding, “Oh, you still don’t know it….let me explain everything.”

“No, get me out of here.” I learned my lesson not to trust anyone right now. I need to get back to Ace asap.

“What did you do to Ace?”

“My dear, we are not your enemy. In fact, when we arrived at Alpha Ace’s territory, we saw you fighting the human fowlers. We saved you and your child.”

“My child..” I instinctively rubbed my belly, “what did you do to my baby?”

“We merely healed you…can you not feel the pain anymore?”

I was silent,d only noticing this.

“That means the baby has adjusted more to the witch realm than that stinky werewolf realm…it must like this place…”

Stinky? I had never seen the werewolf realm like that. And when she insulted them, it was like insulting me.

“You clearly hate the werewolf realm.”

“Why yes, they made the witches' lives miserable. And yours too.”

It shocked me how this is the relationship between Witches and werewolves. I had always thought they got along well since Ace never mentioned anything to me...

“Ace never hurt me, he made sure to make me comfortable and at ease. He would even kill for me.”

“Are you sure he wasn't lying? Where is he now then?”

I gnawed on my teeth, “And what about Ace? When you kidnapped me, what did you do to him?

“We….left him there…”

Left him? Damn, I have to go to him, he might need me! “Let me go to him.”

“Princess Kira, you’re too obsessed with him, we are your family.” She said, “Pity the living, child. You need to move on and continue your mother’s legacy.”

I shook my head, “This is not my fate.”

“Long before you were born, you were meant for this.

“Stay back.” I hissed, “Try to take a step one more time and I’ll kill you.”

A laughed escape from her mouth, staring at me as she nodded calmly, backing away, “Alright, I hear you, I won’t dare to force myself and get closer.”

A sigh then escaped her lips, “Honey, I am not the enemy... I am sure Samira and Lana prepped you on things.”

I raised my eyebrows, “So you’re the leader?” This was the main reason why Samira and Lana made me ride that damn cloud all the way to the floating islands and enter this highest tower alone, just to meet the leader. Since those two did not know the face of their leader, I couldn’t just assume that anyone I see here is the leader.

“Yes, I am Haelyn, the temporary queen of the Witch realm since your mother, the late Queen Selyse died of laboring you and her sister Elsa hiding you from the human world….” She started, “she put such a wonderful spell on you that we only got to sense your presence recently in the werewolf realm.”

My aunt…did that?

Why? And I thought that my mother wanted me to rule here, why did my aunt escape me from here and die me to the human world?”

“You look like you have a lot of questions to ask me. Shall we have tea inside?” She offered, and hesitant for a moment, I tried to balance my options…

Since I am the daughter of a late queen, I am practically the heir to the throne….then she won't do anything harm to me….

I slowly walked to her as she guided me inside where a pavilion greeted us. Healthy plants surrounded the main entrance with crystal clear water from the center fountain..the whole place was clean and enchanting but there was something missing.

Except it lacked people..Or witches...

There only beings in this place are me and this leader.

She directed me inside another door where a large wide open space was.

“Welcome to the palace. This is where I reside now, and this is where you will soon settle in.”
