Egoistic and Territorial
I looked at the path, We are going slower than usual due to Alpha Ace being injured. We had passed across the Red Crow's borders and we are in another pack's territory.
The dead silence around us was nerve-wracking, and I swear the wind was far noisier than us.
Gusev was the one leading us the way while I decided to walk beside him. Gusev looked like he was thinking hard about something, and I couldn’t pinpoint his thoughts.
He looks happy when he smiles, and seeing this same happy vampire frowning like that, I couldn’t help but feel like asking.
“What are you thinking?”
He looked up at me and looked at me in confusion. He seemed to not hear what I said to him as he replied with, “Huh?”
“What are you thinking?” I repeated slowly.
“Oh…uhm…” He cleared his throat, pulling himself from his trance, “I mean…I was just thinking about the fowlers. They had attacked Alpha Kamilah’s own pack long ago…and I wonder how they got that advanced technology…for your Lycan King to not match them…”
Oh, so I was not the only one that’s thinking about that.
That had surely bugged me too, but with Alpha Ace behind us, who could listen to us from there, I think it’s best to set this topic aside. I guess I have to divert this topic.
“What about Alpha Kamilah? How did it go?” I asked, as far as I know, she’s Alpha Magnus Mate. And the same alpha queen that Gusev was in love with. He mentioned it last time…
“They attacked her…and she was helpless that time…” By the sound of his voice, it sounded so regretful…and his eyes held an emotion, and too heavy to look at.
“Are you blaming yourself for it?” I asked, and his eyes drew back to me.
“What? Uhmm,..kind of..how did you know?”
I shrugged, “Cause it looks like it.”
“You know, you remind me of her….she was once just like you…..”
My ears perked up in interest, feeling like diving into this whole conversation, “In what way? An omega? Or a female warrior?”
He nodded, “Yes. Just like you, she was born differently. Hated by everyone. But more than that, she was feist and strong-willed…as if you can throw anything and she will face it head on…
I gulped, she sounds like me…this is the first time I wanted to meet someone…I can’t imagine that this is the same Alpha Kamilah that everyone was fearing. She was seen as cursed for betraying the nature of our world and for betraying the moon goddess, yet I never hated her for it.
To me, she is like an inspiration for she-wolves like me, and hearing that she was also different just made my admiration for her harder, “I see…”
“And that’s what I loved about her…from nothing and just being a weak omega to being the only alpha queen who has everyone on her fingers.”
“How did she become that?” I asked, wanting to know her secret of managing all of that. I could just imagine how she went through everything alone. How she has to face everything because discrimination is nothing new in this world. Werewolves may be the most loyal kind of race but they are also the most discriminators, even worse than humans.
And I am not just speaking just because I hate our own kind. I am saying this because it’s true I am the prime example of their discrimination. The way they cast us aside and call us rogues….
Also, that damn hierarchy that I so damn wanted to abolish. Alphas, Betas, and Omegas, which are the lowest of the rank, are to discriminating at this point.
They would reason that we needed that in order to have order and leadership but I would say it’s just shit that the high-ups like elders made.
“You can ask her yourself when we arrive.” He smiled, “I am happy you are interested in getting to know her…”
He then looked ahead and chewed on his lip, “I am surprised how I was just roaming around, feeling like a battle was breaking out…and I was right. The fowlers found you.”
How sharp a vampire’s intuition is exactly? I am surprised how he instantly knew that would happen.
“Thank you, if you weren't there, perhaps three of us might have already been captured too,” I said, which is rare because I never thank anyone in my life. “How did you know it was the fowlers?”
“It’s one of my mission. To eradicate them…I have been keeping an eye out for them and monitoring their killing rate. They had attacked the two other packs in a span of one week.” He answered and I blinked, surprised by it.
“Wow, mission? I never knew vampires have that…”
He chuckled, “Yes, we have it, or at least, I have it. You werewolves have elders right? For us vampires, we also have high-ranking vampires who give orders to us to keep the balance between the humans and vampires.”
I see….I really thought that vampires are just lazy psychos who kill and drink blood for fun. That they like to manipulate anyone with their crazy rituals, hating the sun and all.
“I really thought that your existence in this world is to just rule this world and corrupt it,” I said as honestly as I could.
His lips pouted as he huffed, crossing his arms in front of me like a child, “Wow, is that how bad my kind is to your eyes? That hurt.” He was acting like I really hurt him as he clutched his chest and wiped his fake tears away.
“What are your perceptions about us werewolves?” I can’t help but ask him my million-dollar question. Let us see if he would reveal anything.
“That you are egoistic, sensitive, territorial bastards.” He simply answered without even batting an eye.
That caught me off guard, but not that surprising since he was definitely right about it and I don’t even want to deny it because he is damn right.
“Well, that is right. I am not gonna deny that.” I answered and he chuckled.
“And you? Tell me what you think what are vampires in your perspective.”
“You guys are manipulative, corrupt, lazy psychos and have red eyes who seem to have ingested opium marijuana and skin that seemed to be frozen in Antarctica and blood-driven psycho mosquitos who love to prey on your human juice boxes.”
I said it all in one breath without even thinking and expressed it all. He kept a straight face, digesting all that I said until he fell on the floor, bursting into fits of laughter.
“I can’t-, you’re funnier than I had expected, Arya. HAHAHA!” He seemed to can’t to stand up as he was still on the ground, laying there and hitting the ground. This made Alpha Ace and his guard stop and look at us weirdly.
