Mosquitos and Human Juiceboxes
I’m sure they heard it and would have been dying to laugh too but they kept a straight face.
It took a few minutes for Gusev to stop and when he recovered, he took a moment to breathe before cracking a laugh again, “Ah, I enjoyed what you said, I am so sorry, I’ve never laughed like that in the past hundred years!”
He started to walk again and our adventure continued on.
“So? Did I hit the right spot about you vampires?” I asked as he cleared his laugh. We took a few turns and still walking in the woods.
“I cannot move on cause you called us mosquitos and humans are our juice boxes.” He said, “Alpha Kamilah used to call me that. I guess we are indeed mosquitos. I admit it.”
“Believe me, we have a lot of something in common.” He said and I scoffed, “Really?”
Never in my life did I imagine talking for more than a minute with a vampire but here we are. And I am starting to get the impression that this wasn't that bad after all, except for the hard glares we received from the back which came from a certain alpha who is really not happy with the situation.
I do not want to think how similar vampires and werewolves are.
Gusev started to clear his throat, “Well, I am gonna list it now. First, we are both nocturnal. But you werewolves are similar to vampires, and at the same time, very much similar to humans. You eat, you sleep, you can cry, you can love, and birth your children, unlike us who just…exist. You’re warm while we are cold.”
He said and then added, “If humans were to choose between vampires or werewolves in cold weather, I think they should choose werewolves as your fur would offer warmth while they might just end up being dead if they are with us. Plus we would suck their blood dry.”
That’s true. He makes sense…
I clicked my tongue, “Right, but can I ask? Do you poop?”
“No.” He gave me a disbelieving look, wondering why the hell did I ask that weird question but he still answered anyway, “Well, the only thing we can’t do is sleep, pee or poop. And produce our own” He scoffed, “Do you have any more weird questions than this?”
“How old are you exactly?” I asked another.
“Eh, just think of me like twenty-one years old or something.”
“Why? Are you old enough to be my grandfather?”
He shrugged, “Yes, much more order than that.”
“So you’re really a thousand years old?”
I tried to guess and when he didn’t reply, I gasped in shock and he took it as offending, “Come on, it is not that old!”
“Okay, from now on, I’ll be calling you grandpa.”
“No! What about you, how old are you?”
“Eck, you don’t ask a female about her age.” I wanted it to remain secret but he already guessed it.
“I’m guessing 19?”
I rolled my eyes about how right he is.
“Tsk, so you’re really the same age as Kira…yet you’re both mated to alphas who are much older than you two. Wow. Werewolf world is really f*cked up.” He muttered.
“You talk like our age….how?” I wondered out loud.
“Oh, I can adapt well to the environment. My kind usually talks like Shakespeare but I am trying o break that stereotype, you know.”
We’ve been walking for hours now and still, we haven’t reached our destination. I am just glad no one sensed our smell and no one dared to attack us. Goodness, if someone were to attack, us, I do not know if we were to survive.
“How far are we still?” I asked, knowing that we are reaching one of the most dangerous areas. We rogues used to be careful in territories like this…
“Do not worry, I masked our scent from others. Unless that person is of higher ranking, we won’t be seen at all.”
I nodded, “Alright…”
Silence fell again, and I wanted to ask another question again, “Does it feel tiring to become a vampire?”
“Wow, is this an interview?” He chuckled, “You seem to have many questions about our kind. Want me to turn you into one?”
I almost gagged at that, “Ew. No thanks.”
He gave me a lopsided grin and then had this serious expression on his face, “Honestly, I am glad you asked that. I’ll answer it honestly, It is, very tiring that I want to be killed. I just find ways to be killed.”
“And yet you are alive. why?”
“Because every season, someone shows up and I would find another reason to live. A few ages ago, I was messing with a few humans and then with Alpha Magnus and Kamilah, now, I am interested in you and Kira.”
I nodded at his answer. I wonder how it would be nice to become a vampire. They are strong like us werewolves, and they would even come up to par with us.
The truce may have been formed between us but rogues and some werewolves still consider them enemies.., and I wasn’t an exception. I honestly considered him as the enemy the moment he showed up that time when Kira and I were bathing at the river….
But when he helped us, that change my perception of his kind. But I wouldn’t tell him this as this might make his ego inflate.
Just then, Alpha Ace’s guard managed to catch up with us and asked us, “Are we in the right direction now?”
“Yes. Unless you don’t trust a vampire like me.” Gusev answered, and Alpha Ace’s guard grabbed him by the throat.
“I hate blood-stinking vampires like you.”
Gusev rolled his eyes, “I hate smelly staunching werewolves like you too. You’re the one I am helping here and you are blurting out some threats to me. If anything, you should be thankful that I am leading you the way.”
I let them argue beside me as I went to Alpha Ace who was seating on the rock behind us, holding his shoulder as he clenched his jaw in pain. He was trying to keep himself awake but he couldn’t talk or react to anything.
“Now if you killed me, no one would have helped you as I did now,” I mumbled to him.
But he wasn’t bulging at my comment. Right. He must be in that deep pain for him to not be able to reply as much as he wants to.
I felt the footsteps of his guard coming back to us as soon as he stopped threatening Gusev.
He was big in stature as his whole body was muscular and stood around 6 feet tall. His tanned skin and dark hair and brown eyes. “Stop bugging the alpha.”
I pushed his hand away, “What is your name again?”
“Maximus.” He grunted in his deep voice.
“Oh, aren't you Kira’s guard?”
“Yes.”
“Then why were you not on her side that time?” I asked since we’re already on this topic.
He sighed. “I advise you not to talk to me anymore, rogue.”
I rolled my eyes as if that insult was hurting anymore. However, we all froze as our attention was drawn to Alpha Ace who was vomiting blood on the ground.
Maximus instanlty came to his alpha and helped him, while I could feel my heart beating fast in panic and glanced at Gusev who was also nervous.
“This is not good,” I muttered and he gulped.
“We need to walk faster now. As soon as possible or he’ll arrive dead.” Gusev voiced out and I closed my eyes. Damn this!
