Broken glass
Elijah’s Point of View
As I heard her name, I peaked to check her and my eyes widened when I saw Clarence enter the scene. They looked like they already knew each other for that long. I clenched my fist, thinking that it would be difficult for me to reveal myself right now, and to take Atasha out of this situation. I didn’t want to make things more complicated and unbearable for her.
Simply by watching her situation right now, it seemed to me that she was framed. The werewolf who entered this place earlier was the one who ruined the mural, not her. It only showed that someone who hated her wanted her to appear as a bad person in the eyes of many.
Atasha, was this really the life you chose? I wished you didn’t forget that we both had an agreement . . . that I'd help you at all cost, may it be teaching you to be the right fit or be able to shift into your wolf form, just to become my contract Luna.
I followed her all throughout her day, watching her every move and every glimpse of sadness in her eyes as she faced some unwanted mishaps that happened which I knew she didn’t expect.
I looked through her eyes, even from afar I knew she was trying to thrive, to give her pack mates the benefit of the doubt as she valued trust and loyalty so much. Even though she had the freedom to run away and forget this place where some of her pack mates didn’t make her feel welcome at all, she decided to put up with it and was still hopeful that she’d earn the trust, friendship and inclusivity she was craving for.
I couldn’t help but admire my slave . . . I knew she had some sort of principles and braveness in her but seeing her standing and thriving all by herself made me believe that she really was deserving to be my contracted Luna.
And so . . . I would do everything to take her back.
The next day, when her work ended, I was watching her from a distance as she prepared to go home. My eyes narrowed as I watched how a familiar werewolf boy approached her comfortably.
That Leo . . . I heard he was inviting her to go to a Carnival tomorrow. I fisted my hand, hoping that Atasha would decline his invitation but the bastard used his ace card which she couldn’t decline. Friends . . .
I saw how she smiled so genuinely as she talked to him. Minutes after, they bid their goodbyes to each other. She also waved her hands to some of her workmates.
I knew I looked like a stalker as I had been following her all this time, hiding my presence in every corner of the street whenever she looked back to gaze at her surroundings.
It didn’t mean that I didn’t have that courage to face her. I just felt that it wasn’t the right time to show up in front of her . . . I’m just making sure I have the right opportunity to take her back.
I sighed with relief when she reached her home safe and sound. I put my hands inside my pocket and kicked the stone in front of me.
“You did good today, slave . . .” I whispered and looked at her small house.
When the night came, I decided to sneak into the back of her house. Earlier when I was observing her place, I saw that there was a door at the back of it which I could use to sneak inside. I was about to open it, thinking that this would be a good time for me to show myself and so we could talk. I held the door knob but I froze when I saw her from the tiny window beside the back door.
She was smiling tenderly while cleaning her house. My lips curled up for a smile. I crossed my hands on my chest and decided to watch her as I never saw this side of her. I chuckled as she started dancing with her broomstick and singing some songs as if she was doing a live performance.
I came to realize that despite the hardship she encountered from her pack mates . . . and even from Clarence, it didn’t erase the fact that she craved this kind of life with her own pack.
Perhaps, this was really the life she ever wanted from the beginning. I recalled how she smiled and looked at Leo. She seemed very happy, excited and comfortable whenever she was with him.
A sudden sting of pain struck my chest. I breathed heavily as I felt the heaviness deep within me. Thinking that she probably likes that werewolf boy made me freeze at my place. I didn’t understand why but my mind and body didn’t seem to like that idea.
I stared at her once again.
“You did well, Atasha . . .” she said to herself while swaying.
I licked my lips and shook my head. I was about to walk away as I made a decision to no longer bother her since it was obvious that she’s already happy and living her life here but then after a few steps, I heard her voice again.
“How I wish I could share this moment with my twin sister . . .”
My brows furrowed. I was sure that she didn’t say it out loud. It was my enhanced ability that made my mind connected through hers which made me hear her thoughts even if she didn’t say it.
So she hasn’t met her twin sister yet . . .
I sat and leaned my back on the door. With my hand resting on my knee, I read her thoughts even though I knew it wasn’t right. Her doubts . . . her wishes and goals . . . I became aware about all of it.
My heart started to pound faster than usual upon hearing this certain thought from her.
“I wonder what Elijah's doing at this moment. I hope that even though I’m not with them anymore, he’s doing fine . . . with Veronica and Zach.”
After that, her mind became cloudy. I heard her long sigh and then her soft breathings, indicating that she already fell asleep.
I clenched my jaw and hand. I swallowed hard as I made the most selfish decision . . . I need to take Atasha back, at all cost . . .
I stayed in her backyard and slept on the ground.
The next day, I peeked at the window and saw her preparing for the Carnival. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. Even if she was wearing an old jumpsuit and a ragged sweater, she looked very stunning and head turner. The thought that she was trying to impress Leo made me feel the sour of the day.
She ate her breakfast and after that Leo knocked on the door to pick her up. My eyes narrowed as I heard that Leo didn’t bring his friends with him because they were busy but I knew that he did it on purpose so he could have an alone time with Atasha . . .
And that innocent slave still went with him even though it was just the two of them who will go to that fuckin’ carnival!
Shaking my head, I felt very irritated that I decided not to follow them. Leo might have been planning to take her on a date for a long time and only used his so-called friends to make Atasha go with him to the Carnival. Just by simply thinking that Leo would hold her hand and kiss her at the end of the day made my irritation worse. I palmed my face and groaned.
And why the hell I was acting as if I was a jealous boyfriend here?
Atasha was only my slave!
I decided to break into her house and saw the dishes on her sink. She didn’t care enough to wash it because she was too excited to be with that bastard Leo. I shook my head and checked the front window. It was still damaged and the cold breeze was entering the entire place.
I sighed and decided to wash the dishes on the sink first. After that, I went to her bed and saw that it was a mess. It was as if the bed was owned by a little kid who got up and played around. I raised an eyebrow and breathed sharply.
Despite the irritation I felt, I still cleaned her bed, making sure that she would be comfortable to lay down on it when she goes home.
“Atasha . . . that slave who goes on a date with a trash without fixing her bed first.”
I laid down on it for a moment. Her scent lingered on the pillow and duvet. I caressed it softly. The thought of having her here beside me made me want to go after her and take her away from that trash . . . but I couldn’t do that as I knew it would only make her mad at me.
My gaze went to the broken window and thought about how I could fix it. It would be chilly at night if she left it just like that, and I was afraid that someone might trespass and harass her if it wasn’t fixed.
I got up from bed and removed the broken glass window.
Without further ado, I went outside and tried to roam around to see if I could see something that would be useful for me to fix Atasha’s window. While wandering on the street, I crossed paths with the same old man I helped in the market just a couple of days ago.
“Hey, El . . . Eliazar! Good to see you here! How are you?” he asked me happily.
“Hi, it’s Elias. I am doing good! Oh, will you be able to help me with something?”
“Sure, Elias my friend. What is it?”
“Is there any shop here that can help me repair or get a replacement for this broken glass window?” I asked.
“Oh, my son can actually help you with that!” he said.
He led the way to his son’s repair shop. After a few talks with his son, he went to Atasha’s house with me, bringing his tools and a replacement glass to her window. In less than an hour, his son who seemed to be my age was able to repair it. I inspected it and it appeared to be just like a brand new one.
“How much is the repair fee, Sir?” I asked.
But the old man immediately shook his hands, which made my forehead crease.
“No, it was okay! It’s my way of thanking you provided that you’re my father’s friend,” his son told me and then he bowed his head before taking his leave.
My gaze followed him. His father’s friend? I just shrugged it off, thinking that this place was kind of odd.
I looked at the glass window again, couldn’t help but smile as I knew Atasha would be so happy to see her fixed window. I was well aware that I was overdoing it, but I just felt that she needed my help this time . . .
I didn’t waste much time and went back to her house and checked if there’s anything that needed to be fixed. I can’t stand to stay in a place like this. It needed a lot of renovation.
Everything seemed okay so far. I thought that I didn’t have all the time to play around and hide, and as much as I didn’t want to interrupt her date with that bastard, I had to go and find her at the carnival.
I rushed towards the house of the old guy which was the same repair shop too. I knocked on their door and after a few seconds, his son opened the door.
“May I help you?” he asked.
“Hey, would you be able to tell the location of the newly opened Carnival here?”
He nodded and gave me a few instructions as to where I should go. It was only then that I had a chance to ask their names. His name was Val and his father’s name was Glen Bishop.
“I appreciate all your help, Val. Please tell Glen that I thank him as well,” I said as I tapped his arm.
He nodded with a smile. “Don’t worry about it, El. We are here to help you if you need anything,” he rest assured.
Without further hesitation, I went to the Carnival, with a clear goal of taking Atasha back whatever happens . . . as she would be my contracted Luna.
She’s the only one I wanted. . .
