Don't run
Murilo
" I don't want to leave the club " she spoke decisively, and I understood, at least in part, what she feared.
" But talking here is a bit complicated " I wore my best smile, in an attempt to convince her.
She looked at me with an expression of extreme seriousness, looking hurt, and after a quick mental survey, I deduced that she saw far more than just what I had assumed at first.
"You saw me with Lavinia, and for this reason, you do not wish to leave the club with me. Is that it?”
I liked people to be honest with me, even more after what Bruna had done, and I didn't intend to offer anything different from that, either.
"You were having sex in the hallway!" she said as if she felt disgusted, just by looking at me, and I understood the depth of what was happening only at that moment.
" You are right about this. I'm not going to act like a jerk and deny what you saw so clearly " I confessed with real regret.
I was driven by instinct, of course, but I couldn't deny that I had analyzed the situation before actually going through with it and that the brief moments I had with Lavinia had been quite pleasurable.
But as far as feelings were concerned, there was nothing but desire, unlike Virginia, who I had been interested in from the first moment I saw her on the stage for the auction and who had managed to awaken me from the torpor I had been in since the separation from Bruna.
" We can talk right here if you prefer " I tried one more time.
"I don't feel like talking to you, Murilo.”
I felt those words like a blow that stunned me, and I couldn't even accuse Virginia of being too hard on me. I was sure that I would act even worse than she was doing now.
" Sorry to interrupt, " The girl who had been talking to Virginia said, as she approached us. "Luan is going to drop us off at home, Virginia. Let's go?”
" Of course! " she answered immediately, not caring to at least think twice about it.
" We can go, then, " The girl said, loud enough for the guy next to her to hear too, even with the noise of the music.
" Goodbye, Murilo " Virginia still spoke, turning her back on me for the second time that night.
" Can you at least give me your phone number? " I needed to try one last card.
She stared at me, while I looked expectantly at her, noticing that she seemed indecisive about doing what I asked, or not, and the seconds it took to answer seemed like long minutes of waiting.
" I don't think that's a good idea " she refuses.
"If you don't want to talk to me anymore after I text you, you can just block me. It's quite simple.”
It's what they usually joke about: "I already had the no, now I would go for the humiliation," I thought sarcastically.
" All right, then "She eventually gives in, clearly reluctantly, and I breathe a sigh of relief.
I grabbed my cell phone from my pocket, ready to type in the number. She spoke hurriedly and soon after she did, Virginia left with her couple of friends, and this time, she didn't even give me a "goodbye", just like she had done when we slept together, and she left while I slept, she didn't even bother to say goodbye.
I watched her go, feeling guilty that it had all gone down like that. Thinking about how, after weeks of looking for someone, I find her just when I am having sex, publicly and to make matters worse, with someone else.
I hoped that Virginia would understand that I couldn't know she was there. If I had been sure that the girl sitting in the VIP area was her, I would never have left with Lavinia, nor would I have gone as far as I did.
Thinking about Lavinia and what we had done reminded me of the foolishness of forgetting to use protection, and I decided that the next day I would find a way to contact her and confirm that what we had done would not have any further consequences.
I would also take the opportunity to have my routine check-up as soon as possible.
I thought as I walked to the parking lot of the nightclub when I heard someone calling me.
" How can you leave me alone and walk away without telling me? " Aquiles complains, behind me.
" Man, you disappeared from the table! " I return the accusation, turning in his direction.
"I just didn't want to stand there at the table, serving as a candle to you and that hot, Lavinia.”
" So, don't complain " I answered, walking back to where I had left my car.
" Did you have sex?" Aquiles asked, seeming to want to tell me something.
" Don't tell me she was already kissing someone else? " I try to feign indignation, but to no avail, for my cousin's face was hilarious.
"Don't you care?”
"Of course not, Aquiles. We are all free and each one knows his mind, do you agree?”
" Good, then, " Aquiles says and looks quite relieved. "Because she is coming. We are going to my apartment.”
I didn't know whether to laugh or just go on my way, but the night was full of twists and turns, this yes, and this was to bewilder anyone.
