He found me!
Virgínia
I left that nightclub feeling bad, but with the certainty that I was only preserving myself, avoiding getting involved with a man who besides being completely out of my reach, he was also involved with famous actresses and I didn't intend, under any circumstances, to enter into such an unequal dispute. It was quite clear that Murilo could have any woman he wanted, and if he was at that auction and paid all that money to be with me, he didn't do it out of necessity, but because it must be a fetish of his, and I couldn't get involved with someone on that level.
There were many obstacles and hindrances, and I had much more important things to worry about, like my parents and my store, which was just starting up, where I needed to conquer my space and my long-dreamed “success”.
If we were in the same position, Murilo and I, everything would be different, because I would feel secure about what my role in his life would be, but in the current conditions, I could not imagine why he insisted on talking to me and I could never believe that he was interested in anything beyond what he already got from me.
Sex for me had never been important, and the proof was that I had remained a virgin for so long, without making any effort, since I had never been tempted to give myself to any man before I had done so exclusively for money.
Of course, the fact that my first was someone like Murilo, who gave me such a wonderful time, was a stroke of luck and I had only to be thankful that I had no traumas on this subject, even though I did what I did. But that was over at dawn, and I was not going to go down that road, no way.
" Planet Earth calling " Mariana jokes, and I looked at her without understanding. "You were in another dimension, my friend. I've called you several times, and you didn't listen.”
" Sorry, Mari," I asked, feeling ashamed "I was far away.”
" That you were far away, I know. It was pretty obvious. But where were you? " Mariana jokes.
We were in our store, making a survey of what we needed to buy and while my friend was working, I was wasting my time thinking about Murilo, something rather useless, I would say.
" Let's forget about that and get back to what matters " I disagreed. "Do you think we should go to that fashion show to check out the trends?”
" No, I don't, friend " I looked at her strangely, and then she added, "I'm sure!”
Mariana said this and burst out laughing, something she was doing a lot that day, and I, as curious as I was, didn't question the reason for such joy and excitement.
I was waiting for her to tell me, of her own volition, what made her so cheerful, because whenever I asked Mariana something now, she always ran away.
" I'll only tell you when you ask, " Mariana jokes, reading my thoughts.
"I've been trying, but you just ran away. I'm starting to feel like a busybody.”
"We are friends, Virginia! What a silly conversation.”
" I believe you are right " I agree, analyzing myself a little.
"You have been very sensitive lately.”
"It must be because my cycle is coming up.”
" For weeks? " Mariana asked, with irony, and I laughed at her words.
But soon the laughter died down, as I began to realize that it had been weeks (weeks!) since my cycle had been due and this was very strange, as it had always been very punctual and immediately alarmed me.
" What happened? " Mariana asked, looking worried.
I felt a shiver take over my whole body, a tingling in my hands, and my heart racing, but at the same time, I felt warm and grabbed the first thing I saw in front of me, a yellow envelope, and started shaking it, also feeling cold as if I was freezing.
"What's going on, Vi? You're white, woman!”
" I'm not feeling well, Mari " I still managed to say, with great effort.
" I can see that " Mariana tries to play "Come, sit here on this bench.”
I needed the help of my best friend to be able to walk to the bench, which was more for decoration than to sit on because my legs felt as flaccid as two portions of Jell" O.
"I'll get you a glass of water. I didn't leave.”
I just smiled, or rather, tried to, because even if I wanted to, I couldn't get up from that bench. Everything around me was just a blur of colors, and I couldn't make out anything that was in front of me.
I hadn't even noticed my friend leave when she put a glass of water in front of me, and with difficulty I put it to my mouth, taking small sips, trying at all costs to calm myself down.
