I will not give in
Virgínia
" I liked Dr. Clifford and I will do my prenatal with him, yes!" I said and even stamped my foot on the floor of Murilo's car.
" He is a cocky man, and you should choose better the person who will accompany you throughout your pregnancy, Virginia " Murilo insisted, once again "You should see other options first. Some indication, who knows?”
"And who could refer me to an obstetric doctor, Murilo?”
From the moment we got in that car, Murilo insisted that I should not have my prenatal appointment with the kind doctor who had seen me in the emergency room that afternoon, and I did not intend to comply with his wishes in any way. He didn't like the doctor, but he wouldn't be the one to see, I would. And no one better than me knows who would be the ideal person to take care of my health and the health of my baby.
"What do you think about making a deal?”
" That depends on what your proposed arrangement is," I said suspiciously.
"I don't get involved in this doctor business anymore, letting you freely choose the person you want to accompany you during the entire pregnancy…”
" And what do you want, in exchange for such generosity, Murilo? " I interrupted him, speaking in a very sarcastic manner.
" Something simple and that won't take up much of your time," he said, but his attention was fully focused on the traffic.
It was after twenty-two o'clock and the traffic was quite calm, to my relief.
After taking three liters of saline and receiving the medication that the doctor had prescribed, I felt much better from the horrible and very uncomfortable symptoms that had been haunting me. Now that I knew that the weakness and dizziness were due to anemia, I would take better care of my health and avoid several other things, among them, Murilo.
" And what would that be? " I asked, wanting him to get to the point.
" I want to introduce you to my grandmother and my cousin Artemis " He spoke, leaving me completely stunned "I would like you to agree to join me for Sunday lunch at Grandma's.”
" No way! " I immediately cut off his pretensions "I can't go to lunch at your family's house, Murilo.”
" Why not? " he asked, this time taking his eyes off the path in front of him.
" I am sure that "Grandma's house" must be a huge mansion, she must be a pedantic lady full of plans for her beloved grandson, and she will never accept that the mother of her great-grandson is a poor, cradleless woman like I,” I said without making any point of measuring my words "I wouldn't even know how to get into your grandmother's house!”
He didn't look at me this time, but as I stared at his profile as he drove through the traffic, I noticed that his jaw was clenched as if he were angry.
But nothing came out of his mouth, and I also remained silent, waiting for an explosion that didn't come.
" Aren't you going to say anything? " I asked, after minutes, without any words being exchanged inside the car.
"Say what? You can't be forced to do what you don't want to do.”
I smiled with satisfaction when I saw that he understood my position and that nothing could change my mind.
We were already very close to the street where I lived, and I sighed with relief now, feeling even lighter, when I realized that there would be no pressure from him.
When the car stopped in front of the house where I live with my parents, I thought I would just say a brief goodbye and get out of the vehicle without wasting any time. So, I immediately grabbed the inside handle and pulled it as soon as he parked and was about to say a brief "goodbye" when I noticed that he also got out of the car and turned around, walking towards the front gate of my house.
" Where are you going? " I asked in horror when I saw that he was already standing at the front door.
" Unlike you, I want to meet your house and your family," He said in a tone that admitted no contest "And nothing can stop me from doing that.”
Murilo looked at me with a hard stare that managed to move me, in a completely strange way. Seeing him with his lips sealed and his face showing irritation, made me want to get closer to him and kiss him, to remove from his face that angry expression that didn't match at all with the always adorable man.
I rebuked these libidinous thoughts and made my way to the door as well, stopping beside him and just turning the knob because I knew it must have been unlocked, as my parents usually left it when they were at home.
The door was locked and that was a sign that no one would be home, something very strange, and I, still looking strangely at Murilo, took the key from inside my purse and opened the door.
