Virgínia
The apartment had two bedrooms, and he was kind enough to ask me if I would prefer to stay in a separate room for more privacy, but I didn't think this would contribute anything to our relationship, which was still under construction.
" I don't see any problem in staying here with you, Murilo," I said, as I watched him carefully.
" That's fine, " he agreed quickly. "Then I'll show you my room. Or rather, I guess I should say our room, right?”
Hearing this, something crossed my mind, and since I didn't want any misunderstanding between us, much less to keep anything that would bother me, I considered it best to ask directly.
" But if you prefer to continue to have your privacy, I can quietly stay in the guest bedroom, "I said at once what I was thinking.”
" Of course not, Virginia! " He refused my offer. "Where did you get that from?”
" I just thought that you might very well want to take care of me, but that you don't have to feel obliged to be a real couple. " I explained, shrugging my shoulders so that he wouldn't realize that this would hurt me.
" But I want us to be a "real " couple" He spoke with a great deal of conviction and approached me, looking me straight in the eye "That's all I want most in this world, Virginia. That we are a couple and everything that this involves.”
I felt emotions welling up in me again, but I didn't let myself get carried away by them once more and managed to keep silent, avoiding saying anything that might end up creating my dreaded misunderstanding.
He smiled, seeming to realize that I had restrained myself, and hugged me tightly while kissing my hair.
" You don't have to hold anything back about what you are feeling or any doubts you might have, " He said "I want you with me, not just in my room, but in my life, understand? " he spoke as he stared at me, holding my face gently.
" Yes, " I replied only.
" I want a better answer than that, my love " he insists, using an amused tone "So I'm unsure if you really have serious intentions with me.”
"Yes, Murilo. I understand that you don't want me only in your bed if that's what you want to make clear to me.”
" Now I believe you understand, " He joked, and we both smiled.
"Come on, I have to get you something to eat. After all, I don't want you fainting from hunger all over the apartment.”
He said this as a joke, but he followed it to the letter, always making sure that I ate properly, even when I felt too sick.
On these occasions, I found that all I could eat was toast with orange juice, something that became my favorite dish and that Murilo made sure to prepare every morning.
He told me that he used to take Bruce, his dog, for a walk, but fearing to leave me alone, he didn't do it for several days.
After a week that I was in Murilo's apartment, I decided that I already felt able to go back to my routine, even though in the first days I knew I had to be careful with the daily and constant nausea.
Murilo was reading a book that explained the various stages of pregnancy, and it said that in most cases the nausea was only in the morning, but that was not my case, and sometimes I was still nauseous at dinner time.
Anyway, I was learning to deal with this aspect of my pregnancy, and it was time to try to adapt, without having to stay indoors all the time, unable to go out for fear of feeling sick.
" Are you sure that it is really the ideal moment to go back to your routine? " Murilo asked for the umpteenth time, just that morning "I still consider it too soon.”
I was brushing my hair, something that Murilo also thought was not a good time to do, while he just watched me, instead of doing the same and starting to get ready for work.
" I think it's past the right time because most pregnant women can't afford to not work for even a day, "I said, not caring about her annoyed look.”
" But they should! " he defended his point of view and I already knew everything he intended to say "I will see to it that the pregnant women who work in the FERZ group companies can perform their duties remotely and when it is really essential that they have to go to work in person, that they only have to go when they feel up to it.”
" Very nice attitude, Murilo " I congratulated him.
I finished using the hair dryer and went in search of my makeup bag in Murilo's huge closet, but I had a hard time finding what I needed, given the size of his closet and without really being able to remember where I had put it the day he brought me to his apartment.
" A pity that not all powerful CEOs of large corporations think this way. " I continued to speak while looking for the briefcase "But I am my own boss, and this boss here says I need to get back to work. Where did I put that briefcase?”
" It's on the second shelf to your right " he indicated, reassuringly "I still think you should wait a little longer, Virginia.”
" Instead of watching me while I get ready, you know what you should be doing, Murilo? " I asked, starting with basic and discreet makeup.
" What? " He still had the nerve to pretend he didn't know what I meant.
"You should be getting ready too! It's been a week since you've set foot in FERZ. I can't believe you can continue to solve everything from a distance like this.”
" Technology, love " He replied with his silly face, which always manages to beat me "Everything can be solved with it.”
