Chapter 17
Alex looked down at the tiny woman in his arms, shocked.
Turning to his brother, he asked " Who is she? "
While Jack kept mute, Ava withdrew from his arms slowly, looking dejected.
She gazed into his beautiful eyes, silently wishing he would recognize her but it seemed that wasn't going to happen, at least not at that moment. Her hands fell to her sides slowly and she gazed at the floor, not able to hold his own piercing gaze.
" Who is she? " Alex asked again, taking his eyes off her to stare at his brother fiercely. Suspicion was written all over his face but there was also a hint of curiosity, as though wondering who the young woman was to be able to hug him.
Ava seemed to be spellbound because she liked the sound of his voice. Normally, she didn't take notice of guys' voice but somehow, she found Alex's to be deep and sexy. A male's voice should be deep, right? There came the mocking voice in her head again but she chose to ignore it this time, promising to get back at her inner voice later when everything was settled.
" Ow "Alex muttered with a light hiss and held a hand to his forehead.
Ava immediately rushed to him on instinct, her expression writhed in concern.
" Hey, are you okay? " She asked worriedly, searching his face thoroughly. Without even knowing she did that, she placed a hand on his left shoulder and patted him gently like she used to.
Alex shot up his head and threw her a hard stare before looking down to where her hands held him.
" Oh " She mumbled and withdrew her hand, getting the message that he didn't want to be touched.
Jack came up behind them and said to Alex " Rest up, brother " And to Ava, he said with a pitiful look " Come on Ava "
He placed his hands on the small of her shoulders and started leading her to the door.
Ava nodded, still finding it quite hard to believe Alex had forgotten her. Just like that?! She asked herself sadly and as usual, her inner voice spared her the trouble of answering that herself. Yeah, just like that dear, you should have known it would come to a halt one day, her inner voice replied which made Ava snorted inwardly.
Now that Alex was fully okay, would she be able to keep her job in the mansion? Jack had of course, assured her that she would but she couldn't help but be scared of Alex. He was her real boss and she was here because of him, right? What if he changed his mind and decided that he didn't need her anymore? What would she do? Where would she go? Going back to Bobby and her step father was definitely not an option.
Jack noticed her worried look and as if he knew what she was thinking about, he gave her a pat on the back.
" Quit worrying so much Ava, or you'll get wrinkles in your twenties. That would be pretty bad, right? " He said with a small smile and Ava returned it with her own, grateful at his attempt to cheer her up.
She nodded and said softly " Thanks Jack "
And she looked back at Alex on to find him staring at her too. She looked away quickly, bringing her eyes back to Jack as they opened the door and went out.
Alex gritted his teeth, annoyed as he wondered if there was something going on between his brother and the.... lady. Truth be told, deep inside him, he knew there was nothing between them and his brother had only held her in a brotherly manner.
" Ugh, you're a pussy Alex " He groaned out and laid his head back on the bed.
Heck, why couldn't he remember her? Who the hell was she? From her whole countenance and how she treated him, he could guess they were pretty close when he was... sick.
" Fuck! " He muttered and went to sleep, thinking a hell load of work awaits him when he gets back to his position in his company. But there was another thing which excited him more, getting revenge.
With that in mind, he smirked evilly and slept off.

On getting outside, they saw Liam chatting gayly with the nurse whom Jack had begged to watch his son for a while. The nurse seemed to be captivated by Liam's cuteness and cheerful attitude. He looked up as they walked over to where he sat with the nurse.
" Dad? Where is uncle Alex? Why isn't he here? Hi Ava " He waved in Ava's direction. Ava waved back.
Jack sighed and scooped him into his arms but not without thanking the nurse. He earned a squeal from Liam as he giggled at the joy of being carried.
" Ow Big boy seems to be adding weight every day " Jack said with a laugh and tickled Liam who bursted out in controllable laughter too.
" Shush, we're at the hospital " Jack whispered into Liam's.
Liam finally went quiet and his beautiful eyes widened when he realized his question had not been answered.
" Uncle Alex, where is he Daddy? " He asked again.
" Flora, did you enjoy spending time with her? " Jack asked, ignoring his son's question.
Now Ava understood what he was doing. Jack was trying to avoid Liam's question.
Liam on the other hand, frowned at his father. He was confused for a second before his eyes finally returned back to their lighter shades.
" Oh! The nurse? " He asked with a hint of a smile on his small lips.
Jack nodded " Yup " Popping the " p".
" Oh Dad! " Liam exclaimed and laughed heartily.
Jack raised an eyebrow questionably " What is it? "
" It's Florida not Flora, her name is Florida Daddy " Liam corrected his father and laughed some more.
" Oh " Jack said sheepishly
" So where is Uncle Alex? You said he'd come out with you guys " Liam asked again and pouted.
