Chapter 17 Break Up
<Mia>
"Kieffer, if you really love me, you should leave your wife." I heard Lorena's demand.
Huh, Kieffer is here? What is this jerk doing here again?
Lorena is the mistress and she is the one who have the guts to demands, my friends is incredible and amuse me at the same time.
I sniffed and tried to hold back my tears. I've been crying since earlier and I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm going crazy.
I hid among the plants near the door to avoid being noticed by them, listening to their serious conversation in the living room. I peered through and saw Kieffer putting down his mobile phone and focusing his attention on Lorena.
"Babe, I'm still working on that, okay? And besides, I don't want to surprise Queen," Kieffer said seriously.
Lorena didn't seem to like the response from her partner.
"Really, Kieffer?" she challenged him.
"We've been talking about this for a long time. If you truly love me, you wouldn't make me your mistress!"
Kieffer sighed. "Lorena, please. I need your deep understanding. I can't just divorce Queen abruptly," he tried to explain to her.
My heart ached. Why does Yunnie always hurt me like this? I loved her wholeheartedly. Do I deserve this pain? I did nothing but love Yunnie. I fought for him against my own family, even though they disowned me because of him.
I’m at the Lorena's house again because I had a painful conversation with Yunie and this scene welcome me.
"Lorena," Kieffer said, his voice filled with emotion as he mentioned my friend's name, "if you truly love me, you'll understand."
"Kieffer, if you love me, fight for me! All you do is give me excuses! You're afraid of angering your family! If that's the case, why did you make me your mistress?! What is this? Are we just fooling around?!" Lorena's frustration was evident as her nostrils flared.
"You know what, go back to your wife with the difficult-to-spell name and spelling," she bitterly remarked to Kieffer, the other woman.
"It's hard being a mistress, Kieffer, there's no assurance. But okay," Lorena smiled bitterly at him, "I still love you," she added emotionally.
What about Yunnie? She said she loved me, but she's giving up now. I couldn't help but sob.
Kieffer sighed and approached my friend.
"Lorena—" he didn't get to finish what he wanted to say as my friend distanced herself from him.
"You still love her, Kieffer..."
"Sorry, wait for me and I'll find a way to make her sign our divorce papers. I don't love her anymore, babe. If it gives you peace, I'll do it." Kieffer said seriously without blinking.
"Show me, then I'll believe you. You know me, I'm weak when it comes to you."
I couldn't hold back my sobs any longer, catching both of them's attention.
"Mia!" Lorena exclaimed in shock when she saw my state. Tears filled my eyes.
I sank to the floor, my knees weak with despair.
"What happened?!" Lorena rushed to my side and helped me up, guiding me to the couch.
"Yunnie... broke up with me," I sobbed. I felt like a child, crying uncontrollably. Yunnie had broken up with me multiple times before, but I never accepted it.
"Babe, I'll leave you two alone. It seems like your friend needs some privacy," Kieffer kindly offered, kissing her cheek before he left.
"Take care, okay? Call me later tonight!" Lorena called after him.
"Lorena..." I called her name through my tears, facing her.
"Tell me what happened," she instructed gently, wiping away my tears.
"Yunnie doesn't want to be the other woman anymore, and she's tired of the pain our situation brings. She said she's been enduring for years, and it's all going to waste... because we haven't officially broken up with Ethan," I choked on my words, recalling how Yunnie had abruptly left me at the coffee shop earlier.
"With everything you've been through, will she give up now? Will you break up just like that?" Lorena tried to comfort me.
"Lorena, you and Yunnie are friends, right? Please, talk to her." I held onto her hand desperately, pleading with my eyes. I couldn't bear the thought of losing Yunnie, after all the time we've spent together. I had grown so accustomed to having her by my side.
Lorena took a while to respond, then finally said, "You know, Mia, I don't see much hope left for your relationship. Look at it this way. Your whole family is keeping a close watch on you, arranging a marriage with Ethan when they found out you were involved with a woman. From Yunnie's perspective, I understand her pain. It's difficult to watch the person you love be married to someone else. Your family is a barrier to your relationship, and you haven't fought for it, Mia."
I shook my head repeatedly, expressing my disapproval.
"Lorena! You don't know what I've done to fight for our relationship! I confronted my family for us! For her! I endured all the judgment!" I said, my voice breaking.
Lorena let go of my hand and sat down beside me, looking ahead.
"You know, Mia," she said, her voice filled with emotion, "being the other woman is tough. And it seems Ethan won't let you go. He loves you. You're lucky to have him while I've been made the other woman by Kieffer..."
My heart ached at her words. It seemed like Yunnie was serious about breaking up with me. I had begged her earlier, even kneeling in front of her, but she seemed unaffected.
"You're the straight one, right?" I didn't answer her question.
"You had an ex-boyfriend before you met Yunnie... Yunnie, on the other hand, is truly bisexual, and she only twisted your heart. But now, it seems like you're the one going crazy over each other," she said, laughing.
When it comes to problems, I can always rely on Lorena.
"You're straight, Mia, and you can still love your husband. I know how strict your parents are, and you should stop stringing Yunnie along. Have mercy on her. Ethan won't let you go, and your parents won't allow you to be with Yunnie. Let her go if you truly love her," Lorena pleaded with me, offering a faint smile.
Her words made me cry even harder.
"I-I don't want to..." I said.
I continue shaking my head, still disapproving.
"Lorena! You don't understand what I've done to fight for our relationship! I confronted my family for us! For her! I endured all the judgment!" I pleaded with her, my voice trembling.
She let go of my hand and sat down beside me, gazing ahead.
"You know, Mia," she said, her voice filled with emotion, "being the other woman is tough. And it seems like Ethan won't let you go. He loves you. You're lucky to have him while I've been made the other woman by Kieffer..."
Her words pierced through my heart, intensifying the pain. It seemed Yunnie was genuinely determined to break up with me. Earlier, I had begged her, even kneeling before her, but she remained unaffected.
"But Mia, I'm the other woman, too. I can understand Yunnie's position. And it seems like you don't really know Yunnie. Once she makes a decision, nothing can change her mind," Lorena said, listening to my cries.
I could only listen to her through my tears, unable to respond. The weight of the situation overwhelmed me, and I felt lost and helpless.
Lorena placed a comforting hand on my back.
"Mia, I know this is incredibly painful for you. But sometimes, love means letting go. If you truly love Yunnie, if you truly want her happiness, you might have to release her from this complicated situation. It's not fair to her, and it's not fair to yourself either. You deserve love, Mia, a love that doesn't come with so many obstacles."
Her words resonated with me, cutting through the chaos in my mind. Deep down, I knew she was right, but accepting it was a different battle altogether.
"I don't want to let her go," I whispered between sobs, my voice filled with anguish.
Lorena sighed, her voice gentle and understanding.
"I know, Mia. Letting go is never easy. But sometimes, it's the kindest thing we can do for ourselves and for the person we love. Trust that time will heal your wounds, and that you will find happiness again, even if it takes time."
I leaned against Lorena, finding solace in her presence. Her words offered a glimmer of hope amidst the pain. Though the path ahead seemed uncertain and daunting, I knew deep down that I needed to find the strength to let go and move forward.
"I-I don't want to..." I said, my voice trembling.
"Lorena, please talk to her..." I pleaded with her, shaking her shoulder.
"Your relationship with Yunnie is uncertain, and if you continue, you will only hurt each other. Listen to your parents, Mia. They want what's best for you," she said, forcing a smile.
Lorena grew up without parents by her side, and she envied my situation. Despite growing up in a disadvantaged area, she remained a kind person. Even when she used to be a troublemaker.
I can't contact Yunnie because she blocked me, even on our social media accounts.
"Why you? There's no certainty in your relationship with Kieffer, so why can't you leave him?"
I felt like I couldn't breathe from the pain I was feeling.
"Our situations are different. Kieffer has given me multiple assurances, and he is working on their divorce papers. We'll be together soon, Mia. But what about you and Yunnie? How long do you plan on keeping her as the other woman? Until you grow old?" Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
Her words made me pause and reflect. I myself didn't know how to escape my marriage with Ethan.
Tears streamed down my face, and my chest tightened.
"Do you even realize how long Yunnie has been waiting for you to make a move to separate from Ethan? Yet, nothing has happened, Mia."
I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. It was only now that I realized the weight of Lorena's words. Years had passed, and I thought Yunnie was fine with everything. But she never spoke to me about her own feelings.
"Lorena, please help me!" I pleaded, my voice trembling as I cried.
She shook her head.
"You're beyond help," I heard her say.
"I'll call your husband to come pick you up."
"No!" I protested, stopping her.
I didn't want Ethan to see me in this state, and I knew he wouldn't stop until he found out why I was crying.
"Lorena, please, don't. He-he'll ask questions!"
She looked at me for a long moment, then set her phone aside.
"You need some time alone to think about what I've said. Have some compassion for my friend, Mia," she requested.
"Go home before it gets late, before your husband starts asking me questions again," she said before leaving me in the living room and heading to the kitchen.
I lay down on the couch, grabbed a pillow, and covered my face, holding it tightly.
More than three hours had passed, and I was still lying in the living room, silently crying. Lorena had left me alone, not saying a word, but she was taking care of me.
"What do you want to eat? I can cook for you. There's ice cream in the fridge," Lorena came back to the living room. I knew it was late, yet she didn't complain about my state.
I remained lost in thought, staring at the ceiling, contemplating deeply.
I've made some enhancements to your work in English:
Did I not fight for her? Didn't I fight for her? That's why I got married because of our relationship. I thought she loved me. Why is it like this? Wasn't my love for her enough to make her stay by my side?
"It's up to you. By the way, your husband called, and he's on his way here. He was angry when he called, saying you didn't answer his call."
I couldn't understand what Lorena was saying to me.
"I have a date with Kieffer, I'm leaving. He texted me," she said.
Yunnie, come back to me.
I don't know what Yunnie fed me, but she has driven me insane like this. I didn't question my gender because when I feel love, gender becomes insignificant to me.
We made so many plans, and none of this was part of our plan.
Why did you suddenly give up?
Half an hour passed, and we heard the doorbell. It must be Kieffer picking up Lorena. It's fine with me if I'm alone in Lorena's house.
I'm withered now, not myself.
"What the fuck?! What happened to her?!"
I looked towards the voice and cried when I saw Ethan. His face was filled with worry.
"Wife, what happened? Fuck!" He quickly approached me and embraced me.
I sobbed on his shoulder, holding onto his neck.
Ethan has always been kind to me and never left my side.
I saw Lorena standing in front of us, looking at the two of us.
"E-Ethan..." I called his name as if I had been oppressed.
He pulled away from my embrace and wiped away my tears. Anger filled his eyes as his face turned serious.
"Who made you cry, huh?" He asked sharply. I heard him curse deeply.
"Ethan..." I cried even harder.
I wanted to tell him everything I was feeling because I knew he was the only one on my side, and I knew he wouldn't hurt me.
"Mia, who hurt you?" His voice grew even deeper.
"Let's discuss that at your house so you can have a comfortable conversation. Take her home first, Ethan, because you can't talk to her in this state," Lorena suggested. She didn't leave us after all.
"Let's go home, and tell me who hurt you." He clenched his fist, and his presence became intimidating.
