The parents of Mia are autocratic and discriminatory towards the LGBTQ+ community. Upon discovering her relationship with a woman, they arranged for her to be betrothed to Ethan, the youngest son of the Mendoza family. Despite this, Mia continued her relationship with her long-time girlfriend, Yunnie, in secret. As the saying goes, there are no secrets that cannot be revealed, and Ethan eventually found out about the situation. While he was understandably upset, he chose to accept his wife and kept the truth from everyone, particularly Mia's parents. However, when they found out that he was covering for her, they became angry with him as well. They told him that instead of trying to hide the truth, he should have separated the two of them. As a result, they instructed him to find a way to end their relationship. In Zoey's case, she was coerced by her parents into marrying the youngest grandson of their doctor's friend. Three years into their marriage with Lee, Zoey had still not developed any feelings of love for him. Instead, her heart was filled with anger towards him, despite the fact that Lee had done everything in his power to make her happy. He had spoiled her and loved her unconditionally, yet she ultimately chose to leave him.
