Chapter 41 Name
<Third Person>
"I gave the opportunity only to you. Your twin sibling, I can't do anything about him anymore because he doesn't listen to me," their grandfather remarked.
Their grandfather was indeed getting old.
"You're lucky, Doc Mendoza. Don't waste the opportunity. You're still the favorite of our grandfather," Doc Quino said with a smile as he organized some patient files and hospital documents.
"You might even inherit the hospital from our grandfather," he added.
Ethan was deep in thought.
"I'm considering and pondering lots of things right now, Grandpa," he informed. If things turned out a certain way, he might be far from his wife for a long time. He planned to study abroad, and it would take several years. He knew Mia wouldn't come with him, as it wouldn't be for her education. Instead, he thought of giving all his time to her, setting up his own clinic there. No one knew what the future held.
"I'll give you enough time, and when your mind is clear, tell me your decision. My offer is always open."
"It's different when you're the favorite grandchild," Doc Quino joked. He was still busy organizing documents. He knew that Ethan and the grandfather would discuss the condition of a critically ill patient who needed a transplant.
"I want to pursue being a scientist. Human body experiments," Ethan said in a hushed tone.
"You can do that, like experimenting on humans, just like the one where they transplanted a pig's heart into a human. But you, you want to fly pigs," Doc Quino chuckled.
Everyone knew that Doc Ethan once tried to experiment on a pig with wings. The grandfather caught him and reprimanded him in front of everyone, so all hospital staff knew about it. Ethan also wanted to study if he could create different versions of dinosaurs since they were extinct in the world. He wanted to bring the extinct dinosaurs back to life.
Their grandfather laughed at Doc Quino's comment.
"That's a good idea, Ethan," Doctor McLean said.
Not a bad idea. Experiment plus medical thing.
"It's strange that Doc William passed away. Based on his medical results, he didn't have any illness, and he didn't suffer from a heart attack. He was a healthy man," Doc Quinto said while looking at the documents of Doc William, Ethan's uncle, who was adopted by their grandfather. A fake Mclean.
"That's just how life is. We never know when we'll pass away. Life should be enjoyed," the grandfather replied.
"No, I mean, his sudden death is puzzling."
"When it's fate, we can't do anything about it. We're doctors, not gods. We can't predict a person's condition, nor can we determine their time of death. Look at me, I'm old, but I'm still here, strong and in front of you," the grandfather chuckled. "Maybe tomorrow, I'll bid my goodbye too."
"Don't say that, Grandpa," Ethan interjected. Though not explicitly stated, he loved his grandfather dearly. Not just for taking care of them, but for being their grandfather, best friend, and parent. His grandparents mean everything to him.
"Oh, Doc, there are things in life that we must accept," Doc Mclean tapped Ethan's shoulder.
Ethan remained silent.
"Oh, look at this. Your wife's medical record," Doc Quinto said as he found the records, "why are these here? Maybe they got mixed up." He was about to return them to the brown envelope when something caught his eye.
"Was her surname Inarez before you got married? Why is 'Ibanez' written here?" Doc Quinto asked, puzzled, as he examined the document.
Ethan took the paper from him and looked at it.
"Mia Zoey Albez Ibanez," Ethan read.
"Isn't she Mia Inarez Mendoza?" Doc Quino questioned him in confusion.
"Maybe it's just a spelling error, and they mistakenly wrote 'Ibanez' instead of 'Inarez'," Doc Quino concluded.
"By the way, Doc Ethan, Doc Fairy is here," Doc Mclean changed the subject, remembering the woman.
"I have to go. My wife is waiting for me at the clinic," Ethan excused himself.
"Wait for her because she just went to another department. She came here for you," his grandfather restrained him.
They maintained their professionalism within the hospital. They didn't treat each other as relatives when they were working. They didn't want any bias just because they were family.
"No, my wife is injured. She needs me," Ethan insisted.
"Priority first. I'll let Doc Fairy know that you came first," Doc Quino offered.
"She invested in our business, and she has plans for the hospital's improvements. If you won't meet her, she might suddenly pull out."
"Let her be, and that's not my business. I don't have time to meet her and wait for her," Ethan rudely replied to his grandfather.
"I didn't raise you to be like that, Ethan," his grandfather warned, clearly displeased with his response.
"She can invest and help us without seeing me," Ethan said with a hint of annoyance.
"Stop being rude, Ethan. Sit and wait for her to come here," his grandfather ordered, but he didn't listen.
"I have to go. My wife needs me," he emphasized his words.
"Ethan Lee, come back here!" his grandfather shouted as he turned away.
He didn't look back and continued walking out of the room.
"Ethan!" the old man called his name again.
"Let him be for now," Doc Quinto said.
Ethan was about to open the door when it automatically opened. Doc Fairy stood in front of him, looking surprised.
"Doc Ethan," she smiled warmly at him, but he gave her a cold stare.
"Are you free for lunch? I've been waiting for you earlier," Fairy still had a smile on her face.
Ethan looked at her coldly and walked past her without saying anything.
"Doc, wait!" Fairy tried to stop him, but he paid her no attention. He wanted to see his wife, and he missed her.
"Doc Ethan, wait for me!" she chased after him, taking long strides. It was evident that she was struggling to walk in her tall heels.
He stopped walking and looked at her forehead; he had never bothered to look at her face. He only looked at her forehead. "Stop talking to me. I don't have any matters or business to discuss with you," he said rudely, his eyes expressionless, wearing a poker face.
As Ethan walked closer to the nurses, he could hear them gossiping about him and his supposed affairs. His forehead creased in irritation, and he couldn't help but listen in on their conversation.
"Did you hear the news?! The woman who had a fight with our nurses is actually Doc Fairy's husband!" one nurse exclaimed.
"Who knew that our fabulous doctor is married. We were late in finding out that Doc Mendoza is married," another nurse chimed in.
"Actually, he is married, you're all just late to the news. He even has two wives," Ethan heard, and his eyebrows furrowed at the gossip.
Three nurses were walking through the facility, carrying medication for their patients.
"And then, you claim that he has a mistress!" the tall woman continued the gossip.
"Yes!" the second nurse agreed. "And you're so nosy!"
"Hey, you gossip queen! I heard it from the chairman himself. The real beautiful wife of Doc Ethan is the woman who talked to us," a third nurse spoke up.
"And, do you know what? Sir Nathan, his twin brother, already has a child. I saw him the other day with a little girl," the tall woman added.
"Heh, that's their niece," another nurse countered.
"Oh my gosh, what if Doc Ethan also has a child? And with his mistress! And he found out that his real wife is pregnant and goes back to her!" the small woman expressed her disappointment. "I used to have a huge crush on him. I'm passing on a playboy doctor."
Ethan slowed down his steps to continue eavesdropping. He was already behind them, but he decided to get closer to hear more.
"Yes, and then they'll live happily together with Doc's fat mistress, and the legal wife will file a lawsuit against them," the male nurse added.
"Then, Gergio will chase after and follow the legal wife. They'll meet at the mall and have a gun toy shootout," the man added with a mischievous tone, much to the amusement of the other nurses.
They all burst into laughter, reveling in their scandalous imaginations.
Ethan had enough of their gossip. He decided to step forward, making his presence known. The nurses quickly turned silent, their faces turning pale as they realized that he had overheard their whole conversation.
"Is this how you spend your time in the hospital?" Ethan's voice was cold as he looked at them disapprovingly. "Gossiping and spreading rumors about others? This is not a high school drama, so act like professionals!"
The nurses stammered and tried to apologize, but Ethan just shook his head in disappointment. Without another word, he walked past them, not bothering to entertain their petty gossip any further. He had more important things to attend to – his wife, Mia.
"Georgia? Who's Georgia?" the tall nurse asked, clueless.
"It's Doc Mendoza's mistress! I heard it, that's her name!" one of the nurses exclaimed.
Ethan sighed at their gossiping.
"Excuse me," he got their attention. He remained emotionless.
"Good evening, doc!"
"Good afternoon, doc!"
"Good early morning, doc!"
They greeted him with different times of the day.
The nurses were surprised to see him behind them.
"Heh, doc, do you have any orders for us?" the male nurse asked with a flirtatious smile, subtly fixing his short hair. Ethan also noticed the two female nurses adjusting themselves upon seeing him.
"I just want to make it clear that my wife is not chubby, and she's my one and only legal wife. She's my real Mrs. Mendoza, and for your information, we already have four kids, and she's pregnant with our fifth child," Ethan informed them, surprising the nurses with his statement.
"If someone gossips about me and my wife, kindly tell them the truth," Ethan said coldly and left them.
They reacted, but he didn't pay any attention. He was in a hurry to see his wife.
"Idiot! What did you say earlier, good afternoon and good morning? It's already evening!" the man scolded the nurses.
"You're the one who's wrong! It's afternoon, and I just came out earlier! I was taking some fresh air!"
"MIA! Behave yourself!"
"Don't touch me!" Mia snapped at Hermione.
"Do you want me to tell your husband the truth, huh?!"
They had been arguing and bickering with Hermione for a while now. Hermione had been threatening to tell Ethan everything and had been searching for him in the hospital, but so far, she hadn't taken any action and just kept repeating her threats.
"You're so stupid, you're so stupid! You got a lot of money from me, but you didn't even buy deodorant!" Mia said annoyed.
