Fuyu's Fear
London:
As it stood, Miller was perplexed, frantically working on Mathias to stabilize his rapidly growing amnesia. It appeared things were worse than Miller had perceived.
Two days, my ass! If the boy made it past today with his name still engraved on his memory, then arrest me.
I was glaring deathly at Miller, and he knew it. He was trying so hard not to look my way while running tests on Mathias. He knew I had a ninety percent tendency to kill him on the spot if he couldn't stop the amnesia. I wasn't going to lose my one clue to figuring out this mess those greedy, power-hungry motherfuckers named Council elders condemned everyone to.
People were dying, and children were getting kidnapped and horrifically experimented on. A lot of things were going wrong, and it sat on my shoulders to fix them because I was the Alpha, Lycan King, and Werewolf leader. I had to protect my people, even if it was going to cost me my life. After all, what's a king without people to rule over and territories to take over, no?
"Alpha, you need to summon the healer. Medically, he's fine… but I think his soul is fracturing, and I can't fix that." Miller had walked up to me and subtly whispered.
I blinked at me, wearing no expression at all. I was livid, angry, frustrated... I was filled with the urge to slam someone against the wall. I wanted to growl out ferociously in anger. But sadly, I couldn't. I could only stare blankly as my hope slipped through my fucking fingers.
I beckoned on a nurse, whispering to her to fetch Emmett, telling her that it was an order. She owed me her loyalty and dedication after everything her family did to mine. Her father, especially, and thankfully, she was the very good girl at paying the price.
Just then, a sudden cold washed over me. I arched a brow, my eyes growing seriously as I calmly flitted my eyes around to pinpoint the source of the sudden dread that gripped me.
The corner of my eyes caught sight of the goose-pimples on my skin, and my brows arched again as I noticed the hairs on my skin standing.
I subtly perceived the air, calculative eyes rolling around. There was a mild trace of decay stuck in the air, and it made my brows knit. I sniffed the air again, feeling my heart beat start to race.
What the hell was going on? I could sense fear and anxiety growing in me, which puzzled me because I definitely wasn't afraid. But the fact that my body was exhibiting signs of fear threw me off-guard.
Fuyu had gone awfully quiet—not like he was being noisy in the first place. But there was something different about his silence and rapidly growing pheromones that made him questionable.
The seriousness that surrounded his lost-in-thought self made me squint my eyes. The dread persisted, the cold drawing me out of the room. Something was wrong.
The smell of decay wafted through my nostrils, making my teeth grind and my canines baring. There was something on my land—an intruder.
"If he forgets everything, I'm nailing you by the tongue to the wall. Don't forget that." I told him, and I saw the fear float through his gaze before he cleared his throat and nodded.
He understood the urgency of matters, and he knew very well that a major slip like this could cost a lot of lives.
I needed to head outside, even though something in me told me not to leave Mathias alone. I mindlinked Cane, telling him to report to the infirmary and stay with Miller. If I wasn't going to be there to protect them, Cane should do that on my behalf. I needed to pinpoint the source of this foul smell and foul feeling.
My long strides soon broke into a run as I dashed through the hallway with eyes dead set on the door. Once past the door, I took a look outside, sniffing the air even more. The mild scent of decay was indeed coming from outside.
My chest rose and fell rapidly as I threw the ribbon out of my hair, letting the messy waves rest on my shoulders. I crouched to my knees, lowering my head to look at the floor. I picked up my hand full of sand and inhaled it. If something or someone were on my land, I'd be able to fish out. The ground will tell me.
I closed my eyes, taking in the smell. Fuyu was pacing in my head, silently watching me do what I was doing. He squinted at me as I perceived the sand again, trying to pinpoint the exact location, but for some odd reason, I could perceive the person, but I couldn't exactly pinpoint where it was coming from because while the smell was coming from almost every angle, the owner chose to keep himself cloaked.
"Something is wrong, Fuyu. I can't exactly tell the location. It's like whoever or whatever it is, is everywhere." It annoyed me to sound so confused, but that was the freaking truth. I was confused.
Fuyu stared at me, gritting his teeth in irritation and agitation. He was antsy, and it was getting to me. Whatever it was that was going on, I knew Fuyu had an idea of it.
"Oh, for goodness sake, move aside London. Let me handle this." Fuyu roared, pushing me back into my subconscious and taking over our bodies.
His red eyes glowed as he slowly looked up from the ground, a menacing aura encasing him. He closed his hands, lowering his head to sniff the ground, his ears perking up as he listened carefully to every single sound, trying to connect them with the different smells he could perceive.
He opened his eyes again, and my eyes widened when I saw black covering half his eyes, black veins crawling up his skin as he gently rotated his neck, breathing calming. I could hear soft whispers as he closed his eyes again, and they were speaking to him. I growled at him, hating how he was acting on his own.
"Fuyu, what are you fucking doing?" I screamed at him. He was acting strange, and it was stressing me the fuck out.
He opened his eyes again, this time howling hungrily. My shirt ripped as his mass increased. I took a step back. Was he planning on transforming?
"Fuyu, what in the name of Luna are you fucking doing?"
He howled again, his ears elongating as his extended claws dug into the ground. He let out a low guttural growl, "My job, London. I'm doing my fucking job."
"We're supposed to work as a team, Fuyu." I growled at him, growing more annoyed by how he was pushing me aside.
He growled at me, his eyes flashing dangerously, "Not in this case, London. He's here; I can sense him."
What the fuck was he talking about?
He closed his eyes, immediately turning left. I blinked at him. "Who's here, Fuyu?"
His eyes squinted as his ears perked up, picking up the sound of feet moving rapidly. Someone was heading in our direction.
Pushed to the limit by how he was annoying, I screamed at him, "Fuyu, fucking answer me, damnit!"
He roared at me viciously, "You're fucking distracting me. Let me do my freaking job. And my job is to fucking protect you, all the people who have pledged loyalty to you, and..." He paused, taking a deep breath, before looking away.
He looked like whatever he was going to say was going to kill him, but he shook his head and muttered it anyway: "Your pregnant mate."
It was either I was imagining things or someone had done something to my freaking wolf because he was out of his goddamn mind. He just freaking called Blaire my mate, something he had never done.
He sighed heavily, looking away. His aura softened a little as he softly said, "Let me be the protector I was created to be. It's my job, London, and what we are going against is more dangerous and cynical than you think."
He closed his eyes again, sucking a huge amount of energy as his hands lay flat on the ground. My body shook at the rapid intake of energy, and I gripped my head at how overwhelming it was.
"Geas Eiu Meh Aras Dee, Luna. Alres Kei ei." He whispered to the ground.
His body shook vigorously as he tightened his grip on the ground, the black veins climbing vigorously as the airy whispers came, faintly wafting through my ear. Listening carefully, it was actually a female's voice.
I paid attention to what Fuyu was saying and sighed. I knew he could understand the old tongue, but I never knew he could speak it. Moreover, I was at a loss for words about what he was doing.
He looked up, inhaling the air before growling, "Hayes... I'd send you back to the pit of hell, where you fucking belong!"
He growled before running off, zapping through trees and navigating through bushy paths that led to the woods. He was sniffing the air as he went, his ears rapidly paying attention to every sound he could hear.
His feet crushed dry leaves as he moved; hearing the sound of feet running, he grew closer. He paused, taking a deep inhale. The smell was getting closer, and so was the feeling of dread that crawled on my skin.
Coming in front of us was a feral-looking Nayeli, and in his arms was a pale Blaire. My heart beat subconsciously grew frantic as I gulped when I saw the blood that dripped down her leg and stained her gown.
A low snarl left Fuyu's throat as he sniffed her and stilled. He took a step back, his eyes growing wider as he inhaled sharply. "What happened to her?"
