Call for help
The moment she thought that she found herself a kin , the only family member who loved her, it turned out that she was only being used.
He was really cruel, kicking her back into the hole she almost clawed up from, cruely forcing her to accept reality , to see how ridiculous she looked, continuously mocking her stupid and naive self.
Her remaining self-esteem had been trampled on by him. Perhaps in his eyes she didn't even deserve to have one.
" You heard him, are you still going to believe in your ridiculous excuses ? " Xavier hung up the phone and turned to taunt her.
Clara just stared blankly at the raindrops falling into the puddle, creating tiny bubbles.
The drops were getting bigger as they fell, so were her tears. She was silently mourning her naive self.
" Lilac has been here alone for thirteen years . Today is her anniversary of death. The contract with the Neo Enterprise was meant to be a gift for her, but unfortunately, you ruined it and, since you ruined it, you are going to keep her company for tonight. I believe she would like someone with the last name Davis to chat with her ", Xavier said, turning to leave.
Clara looked at his departing figure and asked the question she had been meaning to ask: " were you already aware he was using me and you purposely left the documents carelessly on your desk ? "
Today was the anniversary of his first love, but what was so ironical was that it was also her birthday.
Her fragile voice made him turn his attention to her once more. " Yes, I used that opportunity to know who you would side with. I'm more curious to know whose side my wife's on , than to get that contract ". He replied honestly with disappointment laced in his voice.
" If I didn't change the contract would you have been a little nicer to me ? " Like previously when he took her to a restaurant for dinner and when he always stepped out just to help her when she was in trouble.
It took a while before his cruel answer came, " I've never been nice to you, " even the most beautiful memories she wanted to forget had been cruely trembled on by him. It turned out that it was just an illusion.
She heard his retreating footsteps as he was getting further away. She finally let go of the tears that she had been suppressing. Her cry was the only noise that could be heard in the quiet cemetery.
BOOM!
A loud thunder clap made her flinch. She looked up just to see terrifying lightning cutting its way across the sky. She saw that the sky was getting darker and the cemetery was becoming more eerie , recalling that he wanted her to pass the night. Far shadowed her thinking and she hurriedly got up, picked up her shoes and started chasing after him.
Even though the sky was dark she could still see he was about to get into the car. Earlier, she thought he was only trying to scare her , no matter what her crime was. She felt she had already paid the price back for the greenhouse.
No matter how cruel he was, he must have been scaring her. He would wait for her in the car. Yes, he has to.
With this thought in mind, she turned back and looked at the tombstone and bowed apologically and said "I am deeply sorry ".
Then she started running towards him, forgetting to get her umbrella, no matter how deep her wounds were, the tie clip in her hand had never been abandoned. She held on to it like her only source of hope.
Thankfully, she caught up with him. She grabbed him by his pants, " please don't leave me here, I promise this will never happen again. I've learnt my lesson, please ". She had already vowed never to beg anyone for help, but this situation was never involved. A picture is enough to haunt her sleep for days. If she should really pass the night here, she may never wake up the same.
" Let go of me ", he forcefully kicked her aside and went into the car.
" No wait for me " she shouted and kept chasing after the car .
" No ! Wait for me ", she wasn't looking at the steps, so she missed one and tripped , "please don't leave me here Xavier" she cried .
But she could only watch the car as it drove off the hill until she could no longer see any tracks of it.
Once again she had been abandoned, but there was still hope she still had her uncle. He wouldn't abandon her. She got up from the ground and took out her phone. She dialed the number with hope and waited patiently until it got connected. The ringing pierced through her heart as she waited for him to answer and he answered on the fifth ring.
" Clara dear, I really need to thank you for your contribution. This wouldn't have been a success if you hadn't played a huge role. " Ryan didn't wait for her to speak as he went on and on with his thanks giving charade.
" Hold on, uncle," Clara cut him off. If not, he would have continued. "Could you please come. "
Yet she couldn't finish stating her reason for the call, she was interrupted by him. Hello, Clara, I am very busy right now. Don't worry, I will make out time to take you out for dinner. "
"No, uncle, please don't hang up!" she panicked, but it was too late.
The beeping sound from the phone shows that the call has been aborted.
Unfortunately, her call for help has been cruelly rejected.
not giving up, she called again but this time she was replayed by a robotic voice." the number you are trying to call is unreachable at the moment, please try again later."
She looked back at the cemetery ,it was already dark and she could only hear cries of night birds. She opened her phone book and was left speechless. Should she call her second uncle? No, they're now in South Africa,so that was not an option.
After scrolling through the unfamiliar numbers, she finally decides to call Tony but is answered by a mechanical voice, " the number you dialed is currently unavailable ".
Thunder and lightning claps filled the dark sky, adding to her fear.
Even Tony',s phone is switched off. Who will she call now?
Shivering because of the cold, she looked around her. She had no idea where she was, and it was almost dark when he drove her here. She didn't see any road signs on their way here. How would she find her way?
Feeling defeated, she allowed the rain to drench her.
At this moment she felt as if she had been abandoned by the world,as if she had gone back to her past..
She took a deep breath, instead of being scared she looked wracked as she went back to the little tomb where she touched the picture.
" are you Lilac ? What did my family do to you to make him hate us this much ? You know I also hate the name Davis and sometimes I wonder if I wasn't a Davis , what would become of me and where would I be ? Anywhere that would be, I know it would be better than being a Davis family member."
the sounds of the wind and rain drops replied her, but she continued anyway.
" Do you think I will be remembered by someone if I die one day ? It's already thirteen years and he still refused to move on. Although I disagree with such behavior, it's something to be proud of. If I am still alive and am already abandoned , if I die no one will even notice , so no matter what happens I must be alive because I'll end up with nothing if I die. "
Lightning flashed, thunder rumbled, followed by the howling wind. Fortunately, the rain didn't become heavier than it already was. In the empty cemetery all that could be heard was Clara's mumble, which echoed softly, sounding very scary and spooky.
