It was the weekend of one of the biggest events of the year. Summer Mayhem. Holly fidgeted with her formal gown while Isis helped her with her hair.
“I swear you have ants in your pants. Stay still. Geez! I hate doing your hair.” Isis fought with Holly’s hair, yanking her head back.
“Ouch! Not so hard! I can’t help it. It’s boring. Why can’t I just put on my leather jacket and call it a day?”
“Hush. You know you want to go to the Wrestlers Ball looking like a movie star.”
“Whatever. You’re the one that loves this fu-fu girly stuff.”
“Lier. You like it too. Stop pretending to be such a hardass.” Isis hit her on the top of the head with the brush.
“Hey! Stop that. It’s not prom, Isis.” Holly scowled.
“No. But, it’s at least the closest thing we have ever got to do together.”
Holly looked at her reflection and smiled. “I guess you’re right. I bet Colt looks handsome in his tux.”
“Are you going to talk to Cyrus? He’s really upset you won’t talk to him. It’s been a week. He made a huge mistake, but he loves you.”
Holly looked at Isis through the mirror. “He hurt me, Ice. How could he set up that match? I can’t beat them. I’m just not powerful enough.”
“Bullshit. You’re simply scared they will be mad if they lose against a girl. Wraith and Colt both know you’re tough. The fact you are a girl is irrelevant. Besides, Cy and Colt talked and are working things out. At least give him a chance. He’s your brother.”
“Of course, Colt forgave him. He is a saint. He has the most forgiving spirit I have ever known.”
Isis smiled. “All the more reason you love him so much. Don’t forget recently you were the one who was wreaking havoc around here.”
“Yeah. I know.”
Knock. Knock.
Isis went to the door, and Cyrus stood with a bouquet. His head hung low and looked like something had upset him.
“Ice Queen, is Sis here?”
“Yep. Come on in.”
Holly wouldn’t even glance at him.
“Hey.”
No reply.
“I know you’re still mad at me. I’m sorry, Sis. I really am. I brought your favorite flowers.” He laid them in front of her and Holly grabbed them and threw them in the trash. “Silent treatment, huh? I deserve that.”
“You deserve to have your nuts tied to the back of Wraith’s pickup truck and dragged down Chicken Run Road.”
Isis giggled. “That place is not even a road anymore, it's just gravel and thorn bushes.”
Holly grabbed her lipstick in annoyance. “Exactly.”
Cyrus took the lipstick tube from her hand and gently turned her to face him. Tears burning his eyes, making it hard to see it was clear he was remorseful for causing her such pain.
“I’m sorry, sweet pea. I never meant to hurt you. I was just messing with Colt. You know how I am. If I like someone, I like to tease them a little. I got a little carried away. I know he loves you. I hate to admit this, but Colt is a great man. I couldn’t be happier you found someone like him. It’s hard to admit you’re grown up and leaving me behind. This thing is, you, Wraith, and Isis are the only thing good in my life. I guess I’m a little jealous Colt is taking you away from me. I have little in my own life going on since the divorce and I don’t want to lose my sister.”
Holly looked into his eyes, seeing the pain written across his face. She softened, seeing her brother hurting. “Oh, Cy. It’s okay. I can’t stay mad at you, you big goof.” Holly laid her head on his chest and hugged him. “No one could ever take me away. You’re my big brother. I love you. Sarah didn’t deserve you, Cy. Someone will come along that will love you unconditionally. When you find her, she will be your world. Then I’ll be the jealous one.”
“So… Do you forgive me? I know Davis and I planned this, but I believe you can do it. You’re tough, Sis. I wouldn’t have set it up if I didn’t believe in you.”
“I know. I forgive you. If you promise to leave Colt and me alone and let us enjoy tonight. No meddling.”
“Agreed. Have fun and… no babies.” Cyrus frowned at both girls.
Isis giggled. “I’m married, so your opinion here is void. Gage and I are not ready for that just yet. It’s miss bossy over here that has ragging baby fever.”
Holly punched her cousin’s arm. “Shh!”
Cyrus’ eyes got wide in fear she could have already done it. “You’re not…?”
Holly rolled her eyes. “Of course not. You keep cock blocking us. Colt’s scared to touch me.”
Cyrus gave a little chuckle, knowing he was still messing with Colt to get a rise out of him.
Holly growled at him for finding any humor in it.
“Sorry, Sis. It’s just so funny he thinks I’m a serial killer.”
Holly went over and hugged him. “You’re no serial killer, but you are an ass. I love ya anyway. Now get out. I have a party to get ready for.”
