Chapter 31
I bit a massive bite in the pandesal that I am holding on to.
"Okay, okay, I'll just go to my car; I forgot something in the apartment of my car."
I can't help but slap his arm again, this time with all my force.
I don't want to go to the company again.
"Why did you take so long?" Lufita comes near me and raises his eyebrow at me while his arm crosses his chest.
I gave her the coffee, and as time passed, she held them.
"They are not hot! They are already cold! And where have you been? We waited here too long!" She nagged at me.
I bowed my head and played with my fingers.
"I'm sorry," I apologize, and I am still not looking at her.
We got everyone's attention in this department.
One of her friends gets her coffee.
"I am actually okay with this, thanks!" She tapped my shoulder, and she was happy about the coffee.
"By the way, thanks Lufifa, for the coffee!" She yelled. We are just here; the manager and the top manager are not here.
The higher position is busy and has numerous meetings.
"Drink this; I don't want it anymore!" She gave me the remaining three coffees.
"What a stupid!"
I heard her murmuring it.
I got to my seat while bowing my head. I am not into coffee, and I am not drinking coffee.
I look at that coffee. Maybe, I'll just give this to the poor? I don't know someone close to this company.
Someone is looking at me, and I just bow my head. She is the enemy of Lufita.
They are competitors. Lufita and his company.
"Mrs. Saltzman! The board is calling you! To the meeting room, now!"
I heard the assistant supervisor yell.
I didn't hear him clearly. Is he calling me?
"Mrs?" I heard someone.
"She's already married?" Confusion showed on their faces.
"Hey, stupid woman! The assistant supervisor called you! Go to the meeting room!" Lufita yelled at me.
She is far from her, and everyone hears her.
I saw her enemy shake her head.
"Maybe I heard it wrong?"
"Clean your ears; you're hearing different things."
That's what I heard from them.
I stand up, and everyone stops from what they are doing and watches every move I make.
I walked while my eyes were on my fingers. I am not looking my way.
I heard laughter when I fell to the ground. My knee bumped into the wood. It makes my legs jelly, and it really hearts.
I tried to stand, and the pain was coming upward. The pain made my knee weak.
This is giving me social anxiety. My heart throbs fast. I hate public attention; it makes me uncomfortable.
"Stop laughing! Can you guys just do your work?!" Lufita yelled while his eyebrow furrowed.
"The managers are just not here, and someone is trying to substitute them."
Lufita and company enemies blurted out.
"Nina, are you saying something?" She asked sweetly.
While my colleague's attention was not mine, I left them. I immediately walked out and got to the meeting room even though my knee was in pain. I think I couldn't walk straight.
I knock before opening the door and expect a filled room with all eyes looking at me. I am hoping to see the board of members of the investors, but I just saw not less than 10 figures.
"Oh, Selene, what happened to your foot?" Brother Nate, ask me.
Why are they here? With my boss.
I am not familiar with the three-figure men.
"Come, sit here." Kyran guided me to sit in front of brother Nate.
"Does Saltzman already take your innocence?" Brother Kyran asked me while a playful smile was plastered on his face.
Nate stops him.
Those questions made me stop and feel uncomfortable. I bit my lower lips. My boss is now looking at me and giving me suspicious looks. Will he fire me when he knows I am married to the CEO and investor of this company?
"We heard you are working in this company, and you are the exchange of Saltzman's investment in this company," another man I didn't know said.
"Are you related to Mr. Saltzman?" My boss suddenly asked.
I stilled to that question. My boss’s face and expression remain the same; I don’t sense anything.
I looked at him for a couple of minutes.
"I-uhh." I don’t know if I should lie or not. Kier didn't tell me to keep our marriage private.
He asked me those questions.
I do not want to ruin his reputation and mess him up.
I can't utter a word. It feels like I am in a hot seat.
I don't want to be here, and I want to go out. I hate scenarios like this. I just want to work at peace and do my responsibility.
They are looking at me, waiting for my answer.
Brother Nate is looking at me intensely. He even raised his eyebrow at me out of the blue.
I played with my fingers.
"Of course they are!" Kyran is the one who said it.
"They are married," Brother Nate blurted and scratched his nape.
The other man they are with is just playing at the ballpen. He seemed not interested in the topic.
"Oh, I got it. I should've treated you nicely," my boss said.
"And promote her,” Kyran said.
“Why didn't you promote her? She had been working here since she finished college," Kyran asked and just cooly played at his ballpen.
"I didn't know that she was Mr. Saltzman's wife. Though I promoted her, she refused, and besides Mr.
Saltzman got hers. She will be working now in his company," my boss informed them.
Kyran smirked when he heard it.
I want to ask why they called for me?
They just make me feel a longing for my husband. I miss that asshole. Until now, he has not been texting me.
“Wait, if you are his wife, then who is this woman?” The silent man suddenly speaks, and he is looking at his phone.
He looks confused.
My heart suddenly reacted.
“Look," he gave his phone to them so they would look at it.
Nate and Kyran look at each other when they see the phone screen.
Why does my heart beat so fast? And I am not comfortable. I feel that I won’t like what I will see on that phone.
Who is that woman? Is he cheating on me?
“Do you want to see it?” Brother Nate asks gently, trying not to hurt me. There’s a hesitation in his face whether to show it to me or they will keep it to themselves.
Kyran got the phone, and he gave it back to the owner.
“You are wasting my time. Are you here to talk about this woman’s marriage, or are we going to discuss your investment?” My boss asks them; he looks bored and not interested in what's going on.
“You must be thankful that Saltzman convinced us to invest in your shitty company,” Kyran answered sharply.
Kyran downgraded this company that much. I sense in his voice that he just got forced to come here.
I felt my hair go up when Kyran talked.
“You can pull it anytime.” My boss said boastfully.
“Yeah. I will pull my shares.” The other man said it.
“It’s not my loss to lose you, Acardi.” My boss emphasized it. That man didn’t affect what my boss had said; he just smirked and continued to play at the ballpen in front of him.
“You can now leave this room.” My boss looks at me obliquely.
“She won’t go,” I am about to stand up when brother Nate stops me.
“She is part of this meeting and one of your investors.”
“You are here to discuss it with Saltzman; we don't need her here.”
“We are not with him 24/7, and besides, they live under the same roof, so, conveniently, she is here. We don't have enough time to explain it to Saltzman,” Kyran answered.
“Okay, I will explain it to him,” My boss suggested.
“Okay, we will leave now. You wasted our time. It’s not worth it to invest in your shitty company." They all stood up, and I saw my boss clench his fist.
They are just playing and being forced to be here; I sense it.
“It's not my loss; I still have my big investor.”
“Okay, is that so? We will go now,” Kyran said as if it were nothing.
Nate is emotionless.
Nate got near me and held my arm to stand me up, dragging me out of this room. Kyran fixed his coat and left it like we were in a drama.
Everything is in slow motion.
At the door of this room, their secretary approaches them.
“Sir, should I schedule your meeting with the board members of JC incorporation?” Kyran's secretary asked him when she saw us, “The company called; your wife is waiting for you at your office.” They are so fast to vamoose while their secretaries are in the back of us and reporting.
Secretary must be inside that meeting room; why are they waiting outside?
“Selene, you should resign now. This company is about to go bankrupt; better to transfer to your husband's company.” Brother Nate informed me.
I don't want to transfer; I am comfortable and used to working here, so I don't have any problem with my salary.
“Informed the JC incorporation that I won't attend the meeting later. I will see my wife,” I heard Kyran answer; I am in the middle of these three wealthy men who smell so expensive. Kyran smells like a mint.
“You have your family company; what don’t you help your husband manage it?” Kyran shifted his attention to us, and his eyebrow frowned.
