Tav's POV
After Paul and Jared fill themselves up with food, they decided that they have nothing better to do,then to annoy us.
“TAV!” Paul shouted.
“WHAT?” I yelled back.
“Wha- whoa, what happened to your ankle?” Paul said as he tried to hold back his laughter.
“Shut it, Paul.” I shot back, “Glad that you finally noticed your sister’s swollen ankle!”
“Now, what did you do to get that?” Jared asked.
“She tripped over a stick.” Jake replied.
“Wait... You were with her?” Paul growled. “Thought you could’ve taken better care of her.”
All of a sudden, Paul started to shake...again. What is it with my brother? He always has something against Jake... Yet, he imprinted on Jake’s sister.
Life is complicated sometimes... I sighed. I knew I have to get out before a giant wolf appeared but with a swollen ankle like mine, you can’t go far.
I groaned softly.
Seth, who was sitting next to me, heard my soft groan, picked me up and brought me outside.
A safe distance from the drama inside.
“Thanks, Seth.” I said as I lay on the grass.
“No Problem.” Seth said and he lay beside me.
I love spending time with Seth; he is one of those friends who you could spend the whole afternoon with and not say much. Yet, when you want to talk, he is always willing to listen.
Sometime after, Jake came and lay on the other side of me.
“Tav-“He started.
“No, Jacob. Don’t listen to Paul. It wasn’t your fault. Don’t blame yourself. It was the stick’s fault.”I said, matter of factly.
“But-“Jake said.
“Jake, bring me back inside. I am too tired.” I commanded.
Jake sighed.
“Please?”
“Okay, okay.”
“Thanks Jake. Seth, You coming in?” I asked.
“Nah, I think I’ll justlay for awhile.” Seth replied.
I looked at him worriedly.
“Okay.” I answered and let Jake carried me inside.
“Jake?” I whispered, “Is Paul still in there?’
Jake looked at me. “No, he went to meet with Rachel.”
“Oh.”
I hate to say this, but sometimes I feel jealous that Paul spent more time with Rachel than his own sister. Usually, Paul would either be at Sam’s, on patrol or at the Black’s with Rachel. The only times I get to talk to him are when he came back from patrol (in the middle of the night), or when I am at Sam’s house.
Just another reason to add to my “WHY I WANT TO BE A WEREWOLF” list.
Later that night, Jake brought me back to my house.
“Thanks Jake.... again.” I said as he placed me on my bed.
I yawned.
Jake gave me a small smile.
“No, Tavia. I am the one that should say thankyou. Thank you for beinghere when I need you the most.” Jake said.
I blinked and look at him.
“That’s okay, Jake. That’s what friends are for.” I responded. “And, now... that I sprained my ankle and I couldn’t walk. Do you think YOU, asmy friend can help poor little Tav here?”
“Sure, Tav. Anything for you.” Jake said with a smile.
“Good boy, Jakey!I want to go to the beach tomorrow. Think you can help?” I asked.
“Of Course.” Jake answered. “Goodnight, Tav.”
“Goodnight Jake.” Then, I fell into a deep sleep.
At 10 in the morning, I heard a knock at the door and it took me a total of 5 minutes to hop my way to the door.
Must be Jake. I thought as I opened the door.
And , there stood Jake, waiting patiently.
“Morning, Tav. Hope I didn’t wake you up.” Jake greeted me with a lovely smile.
“Of course not, Jake.” I said.
Humm...He IS back to his old self.
I gave him a smile.
“Alright, you ready to go?”
“Sure!” I said. “But.... how are we going to get there?”
Obviously we can’t walk there and he didn’t bring his car with him...
“Well...How about a piggyback?” he asked.
“Really?”
“Yeah. Why not?”
“Okay.”
I rest my head on Jake’s shoulder as he piggybacked me to the Beach.
Jake is so warm...I feel so safe whenever I am with Jake, like he would be there for me and protect me from any harm, anytime, anywhere.
He turned his head to look at me.
“How’s your ankle?” He asked.
His voice sounds like an angel, so soft and gentle...
I lifted my head up.
He looked so handsome, why haven’t I noticed that before?
“It’s better.” I muttered as I study his features on his beautiful face.
I tighten my arm around his neck and inhaling his scent.
“Tav? You okay?” Jake asked worriedly.
“What?” I snapped out of my daze.
“I said Are you okay?”
“I really don’t know.” I said under my breath.
"Tav?"
Why am I thinking about Jacob like that? I am supposed to be his best friend, right? I am only his best friend, nothing more... Beside he told me that he loves Bella and would never forget her.So, why am I still thinking about him like that?
Wake up, Tav! ONLY FRIENDS! ONLY FRIENDS!
“Tav, you don’t know if you are okay?” Jake asked again.
“Huh? No, I am fine.” I lied.
“Right... We are here.”
Tav's POV
Jake placed me on the sand and sat beside me.
Friends...Remember Tav....
I looked up and saw Jake watching me.
I faked a smile and asked, “What’s wrong, Jake?”
“Nothing.”
Jake and I spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach, until we heard someone yelling our names.
“TAV! JAKE!”
We turned around and saw Seth, Embry and Quil walking toward us.
“Hey guys.” I said.
“Hey.” The boys replied.
“There’s a bonfire tonight, Tav.” Seth said.
“Oh! Really?” my head perked up in excitement.
Jake and Seth chuckled.
Everyone in the pack knows I love bonfires, but they never really understood why I love them so much. The reason I love them that much is not because of the food that’s there. But, because every time we have a bonfire, I get to hear the legends about shape shifters and the “cold ones” again. Hearing those stories make me feel closer to the pack, and it reminded me that one day, I might have a chance to join them.
“When?”I asked as I tried to get up, unsuccessfully.
Seth and Jacob caught me and helped me up.
“Thanks, guys.”
“No problem.”
“That’s okay.”
“So, what time is it?” I asked again.
“Umm...I think it’s at 8:30pm.” Embry said.
“Just be there before 9.” Quil added.
“Paul might be able to bring you.” Embry said.
I was just about to reply when Seth and Jacob said,
“I will take you, Tav.”
“I can bring her.”
...at the same time.
Embry and Quil looked at each other and then turned to wait for my reply.
Great. Do I have to choose between my best friends?
“Umm, can Paul take me?” I asked, avoiding Jake and Seth’s eyes.
“I’m not sure but he is off patrol.” Embry answered.
‘Nope, he is bringing Rachel to the bonfire.” Quil pointed out.
Damn it. What’s the point of having an older brother if they don’t appear when you need them?
I gave Quil a stare.
“I can take you, Tav.” Jake said.
“So can I.” Seth said quickly.
I looked at them both.
Oh lord, please help me here.
I thought about Jacob, and how I would love to spend time alone with him. But then, my mind drifted to Bella and the past few months of Jake sharing to me his love for her.
“It’s okay, Jake. You are off Tav duty now. Seth can take me to the bonfire.” I said as I plastered a smile on my face.
Seth grinned at me.
“But-“Jake tried.
“Don’t worry, Jakey. I am perfectly fine and my ankle is getting better. I reasoned with him.
“Yeah, man. Seth will take care of her. We should head back to help start the bonfire.” Quil said.
“Come on.” Embry said as he and Quil dragged Jake away.
“Alright, Seth. Let’s go back to my house so I can change out of this sandy clothes, then we can go to the bonfire.” I said.
“No problem.” Seth said as he lifted me up and walked me to his car.
Just like the way Jake did.
I sighed quietly to myself.
When we arrived at my house, Seth brought me up to my room and left me to change.
Jake...
I stopped and pushed Jake out of my mind and tried to focused on what I am going to wear, but honestly, I don’t care.
I changed out of my dirty clothes as fast as I could and headed down stairs.
“You ready?” Seth asked.
“Yes, let’s go!” I said excitedly.
Jake’s POV
Aah! Why did Quil and Embry have to drag me away? I could’ve spent more time with Tav. Ever since Bella left, Tav has always been the one to cheer me up, talk to me and care for me. When everyone got tired of my depression, it was Tav who came to me each time and tells me that everything is going to be fine.
She was right. Things are definitely getting better. And, it’s all because of her, all because of Tav.
“JAKE!” someone yelled.
I growled, annoyed that someone interrupted my thoughts.
I turned around and saw Tav limping slowly towards me.
TAV!
I couldn’t help but smile. I ran to her so she wouldn’t have to limp any further.
“Jake. Have you started the bonfire yet?” Tav questioned.
“Umm...yeah.” I said, feeling half guilty since I hadn’t been helping Quil and Embry much.
“Well done, Jake. Mind bringing me to the bonfire now?”
“Of course not.”
I lifted Tav up and held her close to my chest. Smiling at the way how Tav just fit right into my arms. Almost as if my arms were made to embrace and hold her.
“Jacob, did I tell you how much I love your hotness?” Tav asked, grinning.
“Ha! I knew you had a crush on me since Grade 2.” I said, smirking.
Tav snorted.
“Yup, I sure do, Jake. I love you so much that I shared my classic mud pie with your favourite jumper on your 7th birthday.” Tav said, laughing.
I whined at the memory.
“That was my favourite birthday present and you ruined it, badly.”
Tav chuckled.
“Well, I thought it would’ve been polite to give you a birthday present too.” Tav said.
“I rather not, thank you.” I answered.
I carried Tava litter further and soon the bonfire came to sight.
“THE BONFIRE!” Tav yelled. I almost lost my grip on her since she was moving so much in my arms.
“Calm down, Tav.” I said, shaking my head.
Why does she loves the bonfire so much?
“Come on, Jake. Put me down on that log. PLEASE!” Tav said, looking at me in a pleading way.
“Okay. Okay.” I said as I placed her gently on the log.
Trying to hide the disappointment of her leaving my embrace.
