Twenty
Alex stared at the girl who had haunted his mind all night as he thought about how disappointed he was with the no-sex rule. She was dressed in cream pants which were loose below her knees and hugged her waist over her tucked-in full sleeves sage green top which hugged her torso perfectly.
She set her black bag down with her simple white handbag and wrapped her fingers together in front of her looking around to avoid his gaze mostly.
Alex cleared his throat before pressing a call button for the prepared car.
"Why did you call me upstairs?" Amber watched him ignore her questions as he walked towards the table in the middle of the common room and open up a small drawer taking out a black box. Amber gulped watching him walk towards her and open her box up.
Alex grabbed her hand pulling out the simple gold ring with an infinity over it and sliding it over her ring finger. Amber felt her heart drop but in a rollercoaster, Her stomach was upside down with her legs trembling.
"What is this?" She asked as he let go of her hand not before holding it just for a second and letting go.
He glanced at her before taking another ring out and sliding it over his finger.
"We are engaged now, make sure you act like my wife"
Amber felt the gush of air around her as he pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear and stepped back right when the bell rang. The driver walked in with another boy and they grabbed their bags before moving to his private elevator.
The very thought of pressing her hands against his rock hard chest aroused her. But she had tried her best to hold back. Telling herself over and over again.
This was a business trip. It was a work she was proposed to do for a better position in her life. Which she could never have unless she started all over again. She had revised all night how much of a fake personality she would show.
For Alex's family, she was Miss Linden's prior assistant. Alex met her through his acquaintances and they dated for a month before making their engagement official. Amber for them had no real story. She did not want to be herself like Alex desired. She wanted to be as fake as she could try, after all. She did not want to please Alex's family. It was Alex's fiancee. Fake fiancee who had to please them.
Amber knew about the rich life Alex lived in so when they walked through the aisle towards the first class seats she had not expected any less.
They were handed a glass of champagne but she refused not wanting to get drunk and suddenly dream of that gorgeous man right beside her.
She wished he booked her a seat far away from him. But he didn't. It a long flight sitting next to the man she so hard tried to resist. His eyes glanced at her, searching for something in her face before he buckled up and so did she.
Not long after as Amber opened her eyes after a deep sleep she heard the distant sound of a keyboard. She woke up with Alex typing away on his laptop while his blazer was taken off and kept on the side of his seat.
Amber shivered at the cold air and suddenly realised how the red soft blanket was spread across her shoulder which she did not remember putting on.
"The lunch will be served soon. So get up" he mumbled.
She sighs getting up to wash her face. She stared at her reflection for a minute before turning the tap on. Thanking her choice of not going for any amount of makeup but a lip balm. She splashed her face with the cold water and patted it dry thinking about what was coming for her.
The fact that his Aunt had no idea. But she knew Amber would be accompanying him for trip.
The flight was just filled with the tension and silence between them. Amber knew Alex was angry. But she couldn't figure out why. What did she say that would cause his anger.
The rest of the flight was her listening to song and sleeping while he worked.
"My Father is out for a quick check-up with Alison. It seems like everyone else is oust for dinner" Alex said as the maid and butler helped them with their lugged and Alex walked uo the stairs towards the front door with Amber behind.
Amber slipped past the door of the house and froze on the spot. This wasn't a cottage house, it was a mansion. And only rich people would call it a cottage house. The house was huge, it was cozy and felt warm. Staring ahead at the wall of raw brick followed by the series of paintings of several centuries, without being too much and overwhelming.
To the left was a long spiral staircase that led to the arrangement of rooms above where she assumed the bedrooms might be. But she couldn't be sure. There was alevin space to her right, and front from the glorious huge sitting area with an arrangement of velvet couches with a fireplace and tv to her right. To a common room with another velvet cream couch a coffee table decorated with beautiful flowers and attic candles and another decor.
There were walls decorated with elegant art and it led to different parts of the house. The light sound of wood burning filled the silence of the house. And it was vast but subtle.
The was the sort of space where too much wasn't a rude intrusion and the furniture seemed like it was from the 19th century with a hint of a modern twist.
"Impressed?" Theo asked although he thought of staying quite. He feta kick of pride as Amber admired the house with her eyes. It was a first, not many came to their old house and those who did never showed it such attention. The people from their family were infact asking their father to change the furniture and make it to the date, modern and simple. But his father reduced to give up the look. His mother had decorated the house by herself. And he refused to retouch anything except for the few coats of paint throughout the years.
"Its beautiful" Amber turned to him, her soft eyes dropping from the deleing to his eyes which were staring right at her,.
Alex looked around with his hands in his pocket.
" My dad never redid the house after mom-" He stopped, his subconscious mind field off to the deep end and questioning how true and frank he was with her.
"You must feel very privileged to live here"
Alex shook his head looking down, "I must have stopped noticing my surrounding as I grew up" he mumbled.
'Just like you, who hasn't noticed how much you blush when I am close'
He wonders what it would be like to set her up with a job that could keep close to him. Then he shook his head at the ridiculous idea.
"I see, I have always noticed every change in my surroundings since I was child" Amber said looking around till her eyes to stop/
She stared back at him, angry with herself for the way he made her feel, it was something like a movie. He was so tempting, sexy, intimidating, close too close even if he stood meters away. She couldn't handle being in a large room with him. It was like they were in his bathroom again. Kissing, holding each other.
Amber almost pinched herself from having such thoughts.
