Chapter 28
"Please!" Her voice sounded coarse like she had been starved of water for many days.
She held on tight to Maris' shirt and Maris' eyes widened with folds on her forehead–The shirt, it was actually Logan's grey shirt. Quickly, Logan rushed to where she was and freed his consort of the woman's grip.
"My goodness, Mrs-" Maris didn't get to finish her sentence because Logan stepped in front of the woman.
"Stay away from her." Logan's eyes became darker as he shoved Maris behind him and sneered, visibly scaring the woman with his white fangs.
"I'm not here to hurt her, believe me." She trembled, falling on her knees with a face that mirrored the wet weekend. "I need her help."
"Why?" Logan's eye brows kissed each other with creases in between them.
"Water," was the last thing the woman said before she collapsed to the floor and her lids closed.
"Let's help her." Maris tapped the back of his shirt, her heart pricking her for how badly the woman was hurt.
She slid away from Logan's back and was about to touch the woman before Logan gripped her wrist and drew her away from the woman, spinning her so she could face him.
"What if this is another decoy just like the way Jane tricked you by shape shifting into a lost little child?" Logan asked, worry laced in his voice as he turned to her.
"It can't be a decoy. I know this woman, her son is my client." Maris stated, trying to reason with Logan, but Logan wasn't buying any of what she was saying. "Or was my client."
"No." Logan shook his head, hands plastered on his waist, "I don't trust this woman. What if she-"
"Logan!" Maris widened her eyes, an emotion floating in her gray orbs as she hung her mouth open. "She's dying, she needs help. Let's help her, please. Don't be inhumane."
"You don't get my point," Logan said, closing the space between them and cupping her cheeks, "I don't want to lose you again."
His words melted Maris' heart and her eye lashes hugged themselves, embracing in the darkness. She didn't want to be away from him too, not when Jane was alive and ready to take him away from her.
"But she needs help," Maris whispered, eyes still shut as she pointed at the woman's direction. "I need to help her."
"Maris..." Logan drawled, leaving and taking steps away from her then ran his fingers through his hair. "Do you ever listen?"
The moment his tone changed, Maris snapped her eyes open, dazed at how quickly Logan got upset.
"What do you mean?" Her eye brows furrowed.
The woman coughed and gasped as she began to crawl away from both their sides in search of water.
"You're making protecting you hard." He stated, face pulled into a frown.
"And you're making being your consort hard." Maris folded her arms against her chest and puckered her lips.
"And you're making loving you hard. You're so stubborn and you irk me sometimes." Distaste laced his voice as these words left his mouth.
Maris gasped loudly, holding her chest with both palms.
"I irk you?" She muttered with wobbly lips.
Suddenly, her eyes darted to the woman crawling away and back to Logan who was standing nonchalantly in front of her. Her facial expression changed.
A frown creased her eye brows and her eyes flashed anger. The skin of his beautiful consort that was as clear and fine as milk was now highlighted with red patches of anger.
"Stay away from me, Logan. You've done more harm than good since we met," she pointed, voice beginning to shake as she pointed a shaky finger at him. Never did she think his words were ever going to pierce her like a spear. "You've hurt me physically, emotionally and mentally. You've taken my life away from me."
"How?"
"By kidnapping me!" She screamed, tears trickling down her cheeks as she balled her palm into fists.
"I didn't kidnap you, Maris." He kept a poker face and folded his arms, "I was trying to protect you."
"Darn you, Logan!" She jumped, throwing him a blow in the face, but he ducked and held her wrists. "Leave me alone, you selfish wolf."
Venom dripped from her voice as she forcefully banged his chest. Heat hit her as anger coursed through her veins. She wanted him dead at that particular moment.
"I can't be consort to a man that easily gets angry and says I irk him." She snatched her wrist from his bangle like grasp and straightened her shirt. "Go find a less disgusting woman to protect. I'm not a commodity you can keep and claim alpha macho Man with. I'm a woman of my own and I can take care of myself!"
Logan's face softened and he tried to move close, regretting using the wrong choice of words. "You don't irk me, I didn't mean-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Maris gave him a slap across the face with wet eyes and a pounding heart. Why she did that, she had no idea. It was what she felt was right at the moment.
"Stay away from me." She seethed then walked away, holding the image of how Logan clenched his jaw with an angry expression on his face in her head.
Maris walked away from Logan, with tears flowing down the hills of her face. Her eyes were swollen and puffy by the time she approached the crawling woman.
"Let me help you." Maris softly stated, crouching down to the woman's level and helping her up. "Who did this to you?"
"Dracula." The woman shook and Maris' jaw kissed the grass they stood on and she left the woman, sending her to fall hardly on her butt.
Her heart picked up it's pace once again and she muttered, "No."
She gulped then helped the woman up again with an apologetic gaze and steadied the woman on a stone that was beside them.
"How did this happen, why?" She asked, hating herself once again for putting herself and everybody in danger.
"He kidnapped Jeremy and-and." She stammered, bowing her head to cry bitterly.
"He what?" Maris asked, blinking rapidly and fighting back her tears. "Killed Jeremy?"
The woman snapped her head up and held Maris' gaze with a scowl, saying, "What, no."
"So what happened?" Maris' tone was weak.
"He forcefully slept with me." Jeremy's mother cried like a banshee with fallen shoulders.
Maris went closer and held her, trying her best to comfort her, giving off body warmth to the woman who looked pale.
"I'm so sorry," Maris whispered, eyes watering once again at the sad sight in front of her. "How can I help?"
"Help me get Jeremy back. He is all I have now." She cried, wetting Maris' shirt.
"How?" Maris asked, dazed.
"I heard you're strong. I mean, the voice thing you did at the bar when those men were throwing blows. I saw werewolf in Logan when he showed his fangs." The woman explained, voice sounding more coarse.
"I am?" Maris asked, forgetting she was a long lost descendant of sirens.
"Yes and the devil's entity lives in you." She held a finger up and placed it on Maris' chest.
Maris followed the finger with her wavering gaze and lips kept in a grim line as series of thoughts raced through her head.
"Wait," Maris said, shutting her eyes for a minute and shaking her head profusely. "Devil's entity?"
"Yes." The woman nodded and laughed like she was insane.
PTSD is bad, really bad.
Maris' reasoning said and she felt even more heart broken at the scene.
"I'm not insane."
"How did you know what I was thinking?" Maris moved away from her, fear beginning to cage her heart.
"Your facial expression." The woman pointed out and Maris heaved a sigh of relief. "Dracula said you stumbled upon their ritual and took the devil's nudes. He also said you have their entity."
Maris froze and immediately, her mind raced to memory lane, taking her back to the night she had taken a picture of the devil's butt–her flash light and sound of camera gave her off.
It wasn't a dream after all, it was reality and the blue eyed god that saved her was Logan.
