Chapter 37 I see the Light
Tasha's POV
We were in her bedroom where she was just sitting there in Eric’s arms, scared that he’ll leave.
“Serenity, love, you need to eat.” The man who was said to be Uncle Luke says; but Serenity shook her head in response.
“You won’t be able to leave this room if you don’t.” Siam says.
“I don’t want to leave.” She said, snuggling closer to Eric, who just sighed and gave us all a pleading look.
Obviously, he asked for our help the moment Serenity woke up, half crazed and scared. It took Eric, Siam and Liam to calm her down, now she won’t let anyone touch her but Eric.
“Maybe we should go.” Anna says, “So you can get more rest.”
Serenity shook her head.
We all shrugged. It was all too confusing. She didn’t want us near, but she didn’t want us out of her sight. It was like a mother hen looking after her chicks.
“Princess,” Liam says, he was sitting by Serenity’s feet, “you need to get some rest. You haven’t eaten, you were injured and you lost your baby.”
I frowned, what is he doing?
It took us three grown men and two hours to calm her down only to have her get all riled up again. Serenity let out a sob in an instant.
“No one wanted that to happen, but it did.” Liam said, “It wasn’t your fault, it was no one’s fault. If there’s anyone to blame it would be Yuri, do you hear me Serenity?”
“But-“
“No, no buts.” Liam says, “I am not letting him take away your life too, Serenity. He took mom’s and now he’s taking yours by taking away something you love. Don’t let him do this Serenity.” Serenity just stared at him, “You deserve to be happy and to live in a way you want, and if it means that we’ll have to look after you every waking hour of the day then we will.” He then lent out a hand, “And you can’t say no to that, cause it’s totally worth it.”
To my surprise Serenity grinned and a chuckle escaped from her.
“And not to mention, you’d have to baby sit for me while I’m still negotiating with your best friend to get a nanny.”
“No nannies.” Anna groaned.
This time Serenity gave a laugh, “Trust me, you’d want a nanny once the prince starts to run around.”
“Well, until then, you’d be the nanny.” Anna says, walking towards Siam, who pulled her to his lap.
“So, will you please eat?” Aaron asked. “Cause seriously, I’ve never seen and smell a curry as delicious as this.”
“And it is delicious.” Jake pointed out, “Cam never disappoints.”
“That is true.” Cam says with a smug look.
“So how about it love?” Eric asked.
Serenity shrugged, “Only if we eat outside and you guys will join me.”
They all turned to Jean, “Will that be ok Jean?” Eric asked.
“Yeah, she needs the sun anyway.” She says with a genuine smile, then she glanced my way, her smile not faltering, “The same goes for you, young lady.”
I forced a smile and a nod, remembering the conversation I had with her the night before.
The moment I saw how Cole reacted seeing her, I knew she was different. No one made Cole look confuse, ever, much more ashamed.
Then again, I’ve witnessed him and Liam have a go with each other. Not that Liam is smarter, he probably is. It’s just that, he was calm and collected always. He was always one step ahead of everyone. I guess that’s because he was Serenity’s best friend and her first line of defense.
Just watching him take control of the situation earlier, it was like he was a Serenity whisperer.
I mean, two hours of calming her down, and an hour of making deals with her, only to find out that Liam could boss her like that.
“So you’ve met everyone.” I hear Serenity say with a sigh.
I looked around and saw the others had already left. I guess I was pretty lost in my thoughts of Jean and Cole.
“Uhm yeah…” I smiled.
“What do you think?” she asked.
“Well, they’re pretty nice.” I said.
“She’s asking what you think of Liam in particular.” Cam says.
“Liam?”
“Yeah,” Anna says with a smile, “Liam, your hero.”
“My hero?” I raised a brow, “I’m thinking Cole would be my hero right now seeing that Liam ran out of the room leaving us to fend for ourselves.”
“Well, you can’t really blame him. you did tell him that Serenity’s in trouble.” Cam says, “And his mission was to find you and then go and help thee others. I mean he is Siam’s beta.”
“Oh, yeah…” I said.
Quite frankly, the moment I saw Liam burst into that room, even without seeing his face, I felt at ease, safe even.
I longed to touch him, to make sure that I wasn’t dreaming, that I was really being rescued.
But all that was set aside when I realized who he was, why he was there. It was to avenge for Serenity. To kill the beings responsible for the hell that they have been in for the past months.
“He’s a little bit dense when it comes to things like this, so you’d have to forgive him.” Serenity says, “As strong as he is, he had built a wall that even I have hard time to penetrate sometimes.”
“And to find out about his mom too.”
I’ve heard the story from the guys, how Liam tried to kill the vampire king who killed his mother. His mother whom he thought was dead all these years.
“Well, he’d figure out what to do sooner or later.” I said.
“He better.” Serenity says, “I can still remember his face whenever Uncle Luke would tell us stories of him and Aunt J.”
I smiled, a vision of a younger looking Liam came into mind looking curious and his eyes all wide and at awe.
“A hopeless romantic huh?”
“Sure is.” Serenity says, “Sweetest one among the boys I grew up with.”
“And I can vouch for that.” Anna says.
“Interesting.” I said.
“He’d totally treat you like a princess once he figures things out.” Cam added.
“I’m sure he will.” I said, “I mean, just seeing how he was with Serenity earlier.”
“And I’m sure he’ll be extra sweeter to his mate.” Serenity says.
“Lucky girl.” I sighed.
“Well, it is about time you get some luck of your own Tasha.” Serenity says with a laugh.
“What?”
“I said its about time you get lucky too.”
“Serenity, please don’t tell me you’re hooking me up with someone.”
“Hooking you up?” she asked, her face looking disgusted, “Of course not.”
“Well, what do you mean then? Cause I’m no charity case that you’d need to hook up to your high rank socialite male friends.” I said.
“Again, I’m not hooking you up, your mate will kill me.”
I frowned, “My mate?”
“Well, duh?” she answers, “Yeah.”
“You mean Cole?”
“Cole?” Anna stifled a laugh, “You have got to be kidding.”
“Wait, you do know that Cole is Jean’s mate, right?” Cam frowned.
“I do, I mean, I asked Jean herself.”
“You what?” Cam and Anna asked in unison.
With the looks on their faces, I was pretty sure they knew of our little situation.
“What? What’s going on?” Serenity asked.
We all turned to her, in an instant her eyes widened, “No.” she said, “Please tell me he didn’t.”
I gave her an apologetic look and nodded.
“What the-“
“Serenity, you can’t stress yourself, you wouldn’t want Jean bursting here, not at the moment.” Anna says, pushing Serenity back in bed.
“Shouldn’t you be changing?” I asked trying to change topic.
“No, I will not leave this room until you girls tell me what happened.” She snapped.
“Ok, ok…” I sighed, “Cole is being stubborn, as usual, and well… he rejected Jean cause of…”
“You.” she finished, “He finally told you and all in the wrong time.”
“What do you mean he finally told me?” I asked, “You knew and you never told me?”
“It isn’t my secret to tell Tasha, you know that.” she snapped back then she ran her hand down her face, “This is just all too confusing and wrong now.”
“Why?” I asked.
“Cause your Liam’s mate.” They said in unison.
“What?!”
“You’re Liam’s mate.” Anna repeated. “How do you think he found you?”
“You were the first person he looked for when he woke up.” Cam added. “And he was the one who headed and planned your rescue.”
“He is?”
“Siam would never do such a huge attack on the hunters if he doesn’t have Liam with him.” Serenity shrugged, “I guess this explains why he isn’t comfortable with Jean when they first met.”
“But it’s impossible!” I said, “I’m not a shifter, I’m a witch, and that’s as fantasy-like as I’m gonna get.”
“You seem to be forgetting that it is possible for shifters and humans, or in your case, a witch to mate.” Anna pointed out.
“But why me?” I asked. “Serenity, Cole wouldn’t like this. I mean, they’re already always in each other’s neck as it is, much more if Cole finds out.”
“You mean when both boys finds out.” Cam says.
“And I’m guessing that’s…” Cam checks her watch, “just… about… now.”
“He doesn’t know?” I asked.
“Nope.” Serenity says, “According to Mama Ellena, it’s because he never smelt the scent of his parents’ bond long enough. It’s said that for some reason, a bond will be recognize if the shifter grew in a family where the bond of his own parents were strong.”
“Well, he grew up with you.” Cam pointed out.
“It should be blood related.” Anna says, “Let’s say Liam’s connection to his parents is through his blood, that blood is half of him. Once he finds his mate, which is you Tasha, you will be the soul. And thus, completing him as being.”
“But I don’t have a wolf for his wolf.”
“Once you are mated, you will be given one.” Serenity says.
“Given one? Like wedding souvenirs?” the girls laughed, “I’m serious.” I whined.
“Well, give a more serious simile.” Cam says.
“Anyway,” I say, “how sure are you that I am his mate, when he doesn’t even know that I am his mate?”
“Easy, the connection.” Serenity said, then she put on her thinking face, “Well, there’s also the thing that he seems to be really fascinated with you, and well, you can put the pieces together.”
I shrugged and sat back on Serenity’s bed, “This can’t be happening.” I said. “I mean, I’m already having a hard time with Cole taking his responsibility with is mate, now I’m someone’s mate.”
The room grew quiet until Serenity crawled toward me and stared at me.
“Listen Tasha.” She said, “I know I owe you a lot, probably my life and my future, but…” she sighed, “I can’t have Liam thinking that he is alone.”
“Well, he has you guys.” I pointed out.
“Yeah, but still…” she shrugged, “You are mates, you are the one he is waiting for to whip him straight and proper. Please, please don’t break his heart…”
I stared at Serenity, not knowing what to tell her.
