Chapter 16 - Sweet Mistake
LUNA ASTERBELLE’s POV
It’s been over five minutes now since I’ve begun to transmit my blood over to Yve, and still, there weren't any changes with her state. She was still lying flat on the same spot of the mist.
“It’s starting,” King Dawn blurted out loud and that was the sign for me to stop giving her my blood. “Step back. It’s not safe for you to stay with her,” he warned me, which I didn’t understand quickly.
Yve rose above the soot, then she managed to grab me by my neck. She was seriously staring at me as if she was communicating with my soul. “What have you done?” Yve asked. Her eyes were filled with sorrow.
I can’t breathe. She was literally strangling me to death.
“Luna Asterbelle!” Dawn yelled my name as he attempted to pull me away from my friend’s grasp, but was unable to do so. “I told you to step back…” he mumbled to himself, as if he was partly blaming himself for my recklessness.
“Y-Yve… L-let’s talk about this peacefully,” I said in between my gasps for a little bit of air. I held tightly onto her wrists, but no matter how strong I tried to get her away from me, she was undeniably vigorous.
“What’s there to converse about? You’ve turned me into a monster! You’ve turned me into the same demonic creature as yourself!”
There were tears present in the corner of her eyes. It must be painful to witness herself killing the person who she used to call as her one and only friend.
I gave up the thought of begging for her mercy. I bit my lower lip before I raised my arm to reach for her cheek. “Y-you’ve gone through the worst experience… I-I just wanted to save you, Y-Yve…” I caressed her as gently as I could, and just as I anticipated, she loosened up a bit until she unconsciously let go of me.
The instant that I broke free from her strangle, I continuously panted while I held onto my chest. ‘That was a close call,’ I thought to myself as I saw Yve slowly bursting her tears out. The soot that was drawn on the ground earlier has now disappeared. Yve’s aura was the same as what I possessed, and I couldn’t even tell what her emotion was since it kept on changing every second.
“Luna Asterbelle,” Dawn called me. “Shouldn’t you be thankful to me?”
I raised a brow. “Was there a need to be appreciative to you, if it was my blood which resurrected Yve back to life?” I inquired in such a disrespectful manner, which made him run towards my direction.
“I don’t like the tone in your voice, Luna,” he coldly said with a blank stare, our face a few inches apart from one another.
For the first time in a while, Dawn finally sounded like a king worthy of praise and acknowledgement.
I gulped in fear. “F-forgive me, King Dawn. I owe you my whole life for sparing my friend.”
A smirk was planted on his lips. “That’s more like it.” He snapped his finger as he pointed over to Yve. “Now that she’s back to life, it’s your turn to do me a favor, isn’t it?”
“What can I do for you, King Dawn?” I asked, now full of respect.
“Be mine.”
I blinked countless times when I heard his quick response. “Sorry, what?”
“Be mine,” he repeated the same phrase. “Our kindred are almost running out. We’ll soon be non-existent in this realm and be dominated by the werewolves if we don’t multiply our population. The two of us are the only hope for every single vampire out there,” Dawn explained the reason why he wanted me.
“If I’m supposed to make love with you and give birth, wouldn’t it just be creating another disaster? What do you expect if our children were brought to this realm?” I shook my head in displeasure of the thought of a child getting murdered. “A newborn hybrid wouldn’t have the capacity to fight for themselves, King Dawn… Even I, as an adult, still can’t defend myself from the possible harm that I may encounter.”
“Luna Asterbelle, you simply have to be mine. Marry me and be the queen of the Dark Shadow Clan. I am not forcing you to conceive a child as soon as possible.”
“King Dawn, it’s inappropriate of you to corner Miss Asterbelle as if you’re leaving her with no other choice other than to be with you,” Jazpher intervened as he voiced out his opinion. “I’m definitely certain that there’s something else that you can ask of her other than that,” he added.
“If you’re that confident about your statement, then I suppose you actually dared to oppose me. And one more thing, if I were you, I’d rather keep my mouth shut unless I’m ordered to speak,” Dawn coldly replied to his keeper. There wasn’t any room for jokes in his watch.
As I was about to get in between them, I felt the presence of Yve’s aura getting closer to me, so I instantly turned to her direction. “Y-Yve…” She was literally prepared to jump on me as it was the stance that I saw. “We should seriously handle this through a decent conversation, Yve,” I said to go on and try and convince her.
“Are you being serious right now, Luna? Did you even think about that before you decided to feed me with your disgusting blood?” Yve was agitated as she questioned me. “I would rather die than continue living my life as a beast who would continuously be hungry for blood!” Tears began to stream down her cheeks.
I can no longer understand what my emotions should be at this moment. I won’t deny the fact that I’m feeling guilty because of what Yve would forcibly have to endure for the succeeding days. She used to blend in with the wolves in the Blood Moon Pack without any issues. And from now on, the same set of experiences might end up being impossible.
She would most probably be executed once she gets to return to their pack house.
“Luna Asterbelle, this would be the last time that I’d repeat myself — be mine,” Dawn spoke, which totally removed the thoughts that were troubling me.
I faced the king. “I… I’m deeply sorry, King Dawn, but just like what Jazpher mentioned… Maybe, there’s still something else that you’d want to take away from me.”
King Dawn shook his head, but it didn’t seem to be a sign that he actually had no other options. It was more likely to be a gesture of disbelief that I had the same opinion as Jazpher. “If you think so too, fine. I’ll set you free, though that wouldn’t mean that I would let Yve go together with you outside of our turf. She would be staying here with me. It wouldn’t be great for her to set foot to whichever pack she belonged to,” he said with a straight face. “Another thing; you mustn’t forget that you’re still indebted to me. Keep in mind that I would definitely search for you in the next weeks, months, or even a hundred years later on. Although, you can take the initiative and go back here to my side. You can accept me at any given time anyway, I wouldn’t think of closing my heart for you.”
He must’ve figured out that there wasn’t a need to rush things between the two of us, especially for his side, as he would surely consider someone who can match his strength as the king to be the one to reign as the queen of his clan. On another note, he also considered Yve’s situation, which leaves me with no other reason to further complain and defy him.
I nodded my head once with a plain smile. “That’s a better deal, King Dawn.” I bowed my head for a few seconds as a sign of respect before I continued to speak. “I’ll be leaving Yve under your care once again. I’ll be coming back to get her the moment that I’ve fully mastered what my capabilities can do.”
I was kind of confident with the possibility of maximizing my abilities as a half-blooded vampire and also the wolf that’s yet to make its appearance and exposure to this world.
“Guess I finally found the motivation to survive through the end, huh?” Dawn muttered to himself. “I’ll look forward to the day of your return, Luna Asterbelle,” he sincerely said.
In a blink of an eye, I was out of the Dark Shadow Clan’s territories. I wasn’t even able to bid my farewells to Jazpher and a s well as Yve.
I’m sure that the day of our reconciliation would still arrive as long as the both of us would actually wish upon the exact same thing.
