Chapter 29 - The Reunion
DR. JOSEPH's POV
The daughter of Alpha Asterbelle was certainly entertaining. “Do you wanna hold my hand?” I asked her without thinking twice. I find her flustered emotions amusing, and that’s more of a reason why I was motivated to tease her over and over again.
If I can get to witness Luna’s red face for a second time, then I wouldn’t mind if I’ll actually die right at this moment.
My brain received some sort of static frequency that made it continuously ache, which made me hiss. I know for sure that there was something wrong with me or there would be a displeasing occurrence moments later on. As much as possible, I would like to accompany Luna until she manages to get out of this endless maze, but it seems like that’s going to be impossible now.
There’s also a possibility that she’d end up hating me for leaving her behind, but it’s for the best. I don’t want her to get involved with me any longer.
The moon goddess granted me this second life of mine, that’s a fact. However, I seriously have no clue about my previous life as a student named Joseph, who supposedly had a girlfriend, Andrea, just like what Luna kept on telling me the first time that we met each other. I wonder if having my memories lost would be enough for the moon goddess to claim as the consequence in exchange of letting me be reincarnated.
“Mate… Your mate is calling you,” said my inner wolf who hasn’t been pleased with the way that I consistently tried to flirt with Luna.
I clicked my tongue. “I know, you don’t have to tell me twice,” I replied.
It’s true that I determined that my mate was yearning for me, since I’m feeling the same way. I can sense her presence somewhere near, which is why I decided to go to where she was instead of heading back to Luna who wasn’t related to me in both of my lives. We’re merely acquaintances.
My mate’s scent was getting closer and closer as I was about to reach the location of a mall.
“Isn’t it going to be dangerous to walk in here? There might be civilians inside,” I mumbled to myself.
My wolf simply told me that there wasn’t a thing that I should be cautious of other than my mate. “You’re not definitely sure yet if she would actually accept you. What if she ends up rejecting you?” he added.
I shook my head as I proceeded to observe the people who were at the entrance of the mall. “That’s quite impossible. You heard what Luna mentioned before; that Andrea kid still had hopes that I was alive, that she was waiting for me to go back to her side and love her the same way that I did before I died in the hands of that beast.”
I chose to pass through the entrance’s threshold rather than to make such a commotion if I opted to crawl through the building to break through a window. Eyes were persistent in watching every step that I made. I don’t know why they kept on staring at me. I don’t even have a worthy ranking, I’m just a doctor.
After I utilized the elevator, I got out on the fifth floor of the mall. Wherein it took me only a few seconds to see her.
Even if I’m clueless about Andrea’s physical appearance, I can’t be mistaken that the woman standing directly in front of me was my mate.
Her eyes widened along with a short gasp. “J-J-Joseph…” Tears began to roll down from her eyes to her cheeks the moment that she uttered my name. “I-I wasn’t wrong when I suddenly had this thought that you’d come here to me… D-do you remember that today marks our second anniversary? If not, then it’s meaningless how you showed up where we had our first date,” she said in between her sobs, her voice kept on cracking, which was absolutely painful for me to hear.
My fingers twitched at the same time that I aggressively held onto her wrist. I can see that she wanted to pull her hand away, but I tightened my grip on her. “You’re coming with me,” I coldly said.
It was like my body had a mind of its own. I brought Andrea to an abandoned factory where there wasn’t any source of light from the sun even though it wasn’t night time yet. There were numerous insects that lurked inside. If I was still the same person that I was before, I might’ve been scared to the bones if I got in this place.
“W-where are we?” Andrea inquired, fear instilled within the tone of her voice.
“Who are you?” I asked instead of giving her a direct answer, pretending that I have no clue regarding her identity.
She tilted her head in confusion. “Y-you don’t know me?” Andrea continued to tear up while pointing to herself with her vacant hand, but this time around, it wasn’t due to delight of my presence — she’s rather devastated.
“I wouldn’t ask if I knew who you were.”
“I’m Andrea, we’ve known each other for years, and we’re not simply lovers! We’re mates bound by the moon goddess herself!” she yelled out in desperation.
Her response made me happy inside, but for some reason, I can’t seem to smile at her right now. “Do you have any idea what type of punishment you’d receive if you lied about being mates with someone? I’m trying to hold back and control myself right now.” My eyes probably changed their colors since she stepped back out of the blue while having eye contact with me. “Death is the penalty, Miss Andrea,” I informed her with a bit of formality.
“M-Miss Andrea, huh…” she whispered to herself.
Her chuckles weren’t sincere. It was a sign of her being disappointed in me or towards herself. She probably didn’t anticipate this, I saw how excited she was earlier at the mall, her eyes were literally sparkling.
But… Even I, myself, don’t understand what I’m trying to do to her right now. Was it necessary for me to scare her like this? Didn’t I want her to accept me as her mate, since my wolf was thinking that she’d end up rejecting me?
