Chapter 70 - The Initiation
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
The alarm clock that continuously rang above the desk that was beside the bed woke me up. As I was about to reach its head for it to stop, I touched someone's hand. I instantly opened my eyes, only to see that it was Dawn. I smiled at the thought that he might have been there the whole time, since midnight.
"What are you doing here in my room?" I asked, rubbing both of my eyes with my fingers. "You're not supposed to barge into my room, even if this is your territory," I added.
"We're scheduled to meet up at the underground organization at eight in the morning, Luna. Don't tell me you already forgot about it?" Dawn beamed with one of his eyebrows slightly raised.
I pressed my lips together at the same time that I scratched my forehead, along with an awkward laugh.
The scheduled strategic meeting for the upcoming war has totally slipped through my mind. I was too occupied with waiting for Yve to wake up or at least move one of her fingers to indicate that she's about to regain her consciousness. It's only less than twenty hours left before the expected date for her to awaken.
We had a quick breakfast before we proceeded down the basement. And just as I was about to ask the king where they kept Yve, I saw her lying on the same couch, just right beside the entrance.
"We might not be upstairs when she wakes up, so I told them to bring her here. It wouldn't do her any good if she gets startled by the sight of vampires and mafias surrounding her the very first second that she opens her eyes," Dawn explained, heading over the broad table in the center that they must have prepared in advance. "Are you sure no one is missing, Jazpher?" he asked the pureblooded keeper.
Jazpher examined the faces of everyone inside before he replied, "All are present," which led Dawn to nod his head once as he began with his smooth discussion.
As I anticipated, Dawn has planned for us to launch our attack on the Blood Moon Pack as soon as possible. He announced that we would be infiltrating their pack house exactly tonight if Yve does wake up. However, we also had to consider the possibility that Yve would still be unconscious by the time we left.
"Isn't there any way to force her? Like, splashing water on her face?" I voiced my suggestion.
Knowing Yve, she was always furious with her sister every single time that her sister used that method instead of an alarm clock.
"That might have a chance, but I feel like it wouldn't be as effective as you think. Yve's subconscious isn't active right now; she wouldn't hear or feel anything no matter how much we try." Dawn turned down my idea. "Yve would still have a role in our second plan."
The first plan was that I would be acting as a rebel who returned to her hometown for the sake of vengeance and fulfilling the promise that I would take my adoptive father's life. The Asterbelles would then believe that I didn't bring anyone with me, so they would lower their guard. And once they do, that would be the go-ahead signal for Dawn's clan to strike.
"I thought you swore to Miss Asterbelle that you wouldn't involve Yve in your plans anymore once she goes back to being a mortal?" Jazpher questioned the king.
My heart fluttered after the discovery that Dawn actually told Jazpher about what we conversed about; I couldn't help but giggle. Dawn hissed when he heard me, so I stopped, then faked a cough.
"Yve is going to be one of the keys to our success. If she fails, then you can kiss goodbye to our whole clan as well as Luna's life," Dawn seriously said, letting his dark aura be exposed. "If you don't want to see me turn into the demonic beast like the rumors regarding my strength and appearance say, then all of you better do everything you can to avoid getting into our plan B," he concluded with an excessive sigh at the end of his speech.
My admiration for Dawn skyrocketed at that point.
The three of us sat near Yve's couch, while the rest of them returned to their posts after Dawn finished with the meeting.
"Are you sure that she's going to live? What if she doesn't wake up in a minute and ends up losing her final breath instead?" I was beyond worried for how this would all turn out, but I received no response from either Jazpher or Dawn, so I had no other choice than to remain patient.
I carefully let Yve's head rest on my lap instead of the pillow as I held her hands, which were placed above her stomach. It was only then that I realized that she no longer bears the same temperature as vampires—she was undeniably warmer than me.
"She's awake," Dawn said. "I could already smell her scent, reeking of human blood."
As if on cue, I sensed Yve's fingers move. "Y-Yve?" I called her the instant that she rose up.
Yve had a confused expression in her eyes as she roamed her vision around the entire room, covering her ears from the deafening noise.
There were wolves who were helplessly howling to be spared from the cells. There were also those who persistently trained until their bodies could no longer keep up with them. And of course, there were vampires who were having a feast out of the wolves who died at the hands of the mafia during their training sessions.
Yve stared at Jazpher for such a long period of time. "Weren't you the one who brought me here?" she asked, pointing her index finger to the keeper.
Jazpher glanced at Dawn to get his permission to tell the truth or not. "Yes, what about it, pretty lady?" he replied with a smirk.
"You're also the one who shot me to death!"
"Yes, what about it?" Jazpher repeated, which made Yve lose her temper. "And that woman beside you is the one who turned you into a half-blooded vampire, and that man was the one who returned you—"
"Enough with those useless talks." Dawn cut Jazpher off, standing up from the couch. "Let's begin our mission."
Those were only four words, but it was enough for me to get anxious. This would be the first time that I'd go to the Blood Moon Pack, not as their adoptive daughter but as the Dark Shadow Clan's hidden member.
I have to prove to them that I've changed; I must show them the difference in our strength and tear them to pieces.
