Chapter 71 - The Infiltration
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
With my heavy breaths, I gulped when I sensed how massive the impact of the Blood Moon Pack's barrier was the exact moment that we stepped inside their territories. This was exactly how I felt when I first entered their pack house when I was adopted by the Asterbelles. I didn't like how the first impression I had about them wasn't that welcoming to me.
"I think they already know we're here," I said in a low voice.
I was with Dawn and Jazpher. We left Yve behind the back lines, together with the mafia. They all swore to me that they'd defend her like their own lives were on stake and that if something bad happens to her, they'll kill themselves on the spot.
On the other hand, the Crimson Moon Pack's youngest, Yuki Holmes, was still in the midst of convincing her brothers to cooperate with us and that we should call it quits and just team up once and for all.
"Of course. They wouldn't be the Alpha and Luna of this pack if they would be too careless not to expect our arrival, especially now that you have that Grimstone from Althea," Dawn said through our mind-link, which made me glance at him, but he wasn't even looking at me.
He was too focused on keeping his vision straight ahead.
"Don't look at me or anyone, Luna. You're going to be in danger if you're not paying attention to what's in front of you," he further warned me.
From this distance, I could somehow sense that someone was staring at me from afar. I gazed upon the windows from where my parents always used to stay, and there I saw both Mr. and Mrs. Asterbelle looking down on us. My eyes widened upon seeing them.
"They saw us!" I quickly placed one of my hands on Dawn's back and the other on Jazpher as I pushed both of them to the ground as we all kneeled at the same time.
It would have been crucial if I wasn't able to act fast. There was a huge surge of flames that attacked us from the skies, which led the trees to fall down like dominoes as their leaves began to burn.
"Those aren't my parents' flames," I whispered to myself.
"There's someone above; let's escape for now," Jazpher said as he hastily moved away while pulling us up.
We paced out of that spot and had a rendezvous with the other clan members, who weren't happy to see us. We had an agreement beforehand that we wouldn't see each other in the next twenty-four hours or more until we successfully took over their pack.
"What happened, Luna? Why are you all back here?" Yve interrogated us with such an anxious look.
I bit my lower lip, followed by a short sigh as I explained to them what occurred back there. "I don't remember that our pack had a seer. Other than knowing about our plan, they even knew of our exact positions. There's no point in this hideout; they are probably just waiting for us to come back," I mumbled.
"There's a limit to how much a mere seer can do. Even if they team up with the greatest sorcerer alive, they would be no match if we attacked them all at once," Jazpher commented.
I couldn't help myself not to look at Dawn. I couldn't remove the uneasiness in my heart that this might be a mission that wouldn't end with anyone being killed. Dawn, Jazpher, Yve, the Holmes' siblings, and then there's me. We all risked our lives.
We reviewed our current plan and started to change one thing to another. Instead of having Dawn and Jazpher with me, they suggested that I should go to the Asterbelles on my own. In that way, I can have the strongest of the pack within my vicinity, and they would only need to deal with the lower ranks.
Half an hour has already passed, and now I'm inside the Blood Moon Pack. I parted ways with the three of them. I have faith in both Dawn and Jazpher that they would be safe, but I kind of have doubts that Yve wouldn't be harmed.
She no longer has a wolf, so there won't be a chance for her to regenerate herself if she does get in trouble. Yve was literally reborn as a human, one without any supernatural attributes and also without the genes of either a vampire or a wolf.
It was suspicious how no one dared to stop me even after Mr. Asterbelle told me that I wouldn't be able to get in here again. Along the way, I caught a glimpse of a familiar man who was stalking me. I made sure not to look at him with my face turned around.
I saw Dr. Joseph from the peripheral view of my eye, and he didn't seem like he had any intention to attack me. My wolf wasn't wary of him at all. He might have deceived my parents, and there's a high possibility that he's one of our allies.
I cupped my own cheeks with my hands and let the coldness enter my skin as I slowly went upstairs, heading over my parents' room.
"So this is what you meant by taking me down, Luna?" Mr. Asterbelle spoke from behind after I got in front of their room's door.
I swiftly turned around, which I shouldn't have done. He managed to strangle me with his right hand as he pushed me to their room, which caused the door to break as well as all the furniture that my body crashed onto. My back was glued to the wall and the only thing I could do was to endlessly kick his giant body as he shifted.
I could barely breathe; my lungs were suffocated. I couldn't even let a single word out of my mouth to make him stop.
"You once disappointed me for turning out to bear the blood of a vampire…"
Mr. Asterbelle's thick and sharp nails pierced through my neck, making me wince at the same time that my vision turned black.
"Now show me what a demon like you is capable of. Don't let me down, Luna Asterbelle," he said before I totally lost it.
