Chapter 78 - The Threat
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
The entire world seemed to stop for me when Jerome fainted right in front of me, and I wasn't even able to do anything at that point other than stare at him lying on the ground with his eyes still closed. I couldn't even ask for anyone's help since I was the only one with him in that cell. I know that my mom, Yve, and even Joseph saw what happened here, but I doubt that they could help him.
"Jerome?" I called him in hopes that he'd ask why, but I didn't receive any sort of response from him. "No, wait... This can't be happening. This might be just a dream," I muttered as I continuously shook my head, trying to convince myself that this wasn't reality, or maybe I was just hallucinating and that this was one of the side effects of the Crimson Moon Pack's virus.
I tried to remain as calm as possible. Losing my focus at this moment would only endanger Jerome's life more.
Though that was easier said than done.
My blood boiled inside my veins, and I could feel it circulating all throughout my body. Some even reached my head, which made my horn glow as well.
'Why did you let my mate die?' My wolf asked in my mind.
"Jerome's not dead; he's still alive; he's just unconscious. Don't jump to conclusions," I mumbled at the same time that I annoyingly stomped on the ground, which created such a loud thud that was enough to form cracks below.
'Then why isn't he responding to my call?' It further inquired, which I chose to ignore, knowing that my wolf wouldn't stop with its queries unless I did so. 'Avoiding me won't help, Luna. I'll take over you if you don't respond, and I'll find the answers on my own. It tried to blackmail me, but I still didn't give any reply.
I was occupied with thinking about how Jerome lost his consciousness and why it happened to him in the first place. It's not like this was the first time that he had a taste of my blood. And besides, he already told me before that my hybrid blood wouldn't do him any harm.
A random surge of aura that emitted from my soul made me feel powerful. "Shin Holmes, I'm definitely sure that you're the one behind this shit. There's no one else who can do this to Jerome except for you. You better start hiding now before I find you," I blurted out my demonic thoughts.
I began to destroy the steel bars that caged us in this cell, and I did the same with the cells of the rest of our allies. The ground started to shake, but it didn't have much impact, so I didn't budge.
"Jerome... Is Jerome alright?" Joseph immediately asked out of concern for someone he knew, so I shortly lied to him, saying that Jerome was just exhausted from our fight with Brian. "I saw what happened; you don't have to fabricate the story. Does your blood really contain poison, just like the rumors say, Luna?"
"You were there when I was cast out," I whispered to myself. "I'm a werewolf who was cursed to carry a half-blooded vampire's genes. So basically, my blood is indeed poisonous to normal humans and wolves. It would only take a few minutes or up to an hour before one dies after having a taste of my blood, depending on their immunity," I seriously replied.
Joseph was the one who brought Jerome out of the dungeon's cell, letting Jerome's back lean on the wall right beside us.
"Does that mean Jerome would die?"
My eyebrows furrowed as I shook my head once. "Can't you find a way to cure him instead of running your mouth? You're a doctor, aren't you?" My patience and other negative emotions were all acting up.
"I don't have antidotes here with me, Luna. All my equipment is in the Blood Moon Pack," Joseph said, which kind of disappointed me that I couldn't rely on him. "If the one that affected Jerome was this pack's virus, then the only cure that can get him back to life would be a treatment coming from a shaman, not just a doctor."
Speaking of Shaman, I currently don't have any idea of Lizzy's whereabouts.
"Ah, is that so? Thanks; at least there's an assurance that Jerome really won't die. I know a shaman around here."
I invited the three of them to the guest house, since it was the only place where people wouldn't give a damn about who was inside. Joseph carried Jerome behind his back while on the way.
"Joseph, I'm counting on you. Don't leave Yve and Mrs. Asterbelle by themselves. You're the only one capable of fighting right now." I seriously ordered him before I left, even though I wasn't so sure if he would abide by what I said. "Especially Jerome. I know this might be a burden, but please watch over them."
The exact moment that I stepped back into the mansion, I knew that I was yearning to shift when I heard my wolf express how much she wanted to have Shin's head separated from his body.
I could endure anything except for the fact that my mate was suffering on his own. I would never forgive the alpha of this damn pack, even if all of them tried to warn me about how dangerous Shin was.
"So it seems that you were the one who ruined my dungeon," Shin murmured as he appeared out of the blue.
I roamed around the lobby, and I saw that Nero was together with both Jazpher and Yuki, who were silent. And the one that I was looking for wasn't even with them.
"Who are you searching for? That shaman?" Shin asked as if he could read my mind.
I clicked my tongue. "Bring Lizzy here, Shin."
He laughed, then said, "Make me."
Clenching my fists made my nails hit my palm while I sent death glares to Shin, which made him playfully raise both of his hands to pretend like he gave up.
Shin snapped his finger, and before I even knew it, Lizzy was headlocked by him. "Ah, what should I do with this woman? She holds the life of your beloved mate, doesn't she?" he asked as he licked his bottom lip before biting it to make him look seductive.
Though he looked more like a maniac to my eyes.
