Chapter 79 - The Sacrifice
LUNA ASTERBELLE'S POV
As soon as Shin attempted to decapitate Lizzy with his bare hands, I sped up to their spot as I immediately tried to kick his legs to make him kneel. Although he was able to avoid it as if he had seen through the future, he stepped back at the exact moment I rushed to them.
"Are you going to kill Lizzy after Yuki entrusted the shaman's life to you? Would you really betray Yuki just to see me in a miserable state?" I seriously asked him, in hopes that he'd still have a little bit of conscience left.
"Yuki, huh? I see more worth with Lizzy than her. I don't even know why she got into our bloodline; she should've been a rogue instead," Shin answered with little to no hesitation.
I've had enough of the alpha's rudeness, especially about how he switches sides with anyone he deems more superior than the other.
'Let me out, Luna. I'll let him have a lot of things to regret other than messing around with you and my mate.' My wolf said to persuade me.
In the span of a minute, I shifted to my fully awakened form. My wings were already healed, and my horn grew longer and a bit curled at its tip. The muscles in my body became stiff, making me safe from any sort of unforeseen attack.
"I didn't want to reach up to this point where I need to kill you just to gain the shaman back, Shin. Don't hate me for this," I mumbled as I let my wolf succumb to my entire sub-conscious and let her have absolute control over every course of action I'd take.
Shin pushed Lizzy towards Nero's side as he shifted to his wolf as well. He was evidently more gigantic than me. His claws were the same length as my legs. He seemed to have no more hesitations in mind, so I initiated the duel between the two of us, wherein I would obviously stand no chance to defeat him. I continuously flew all over the place, trying to search for an opening where I could land my first blow, but Shin was literally securing every spot where his weak spot might be located. He doesn't even have any blind spots; he can easily see everywhere I go.
Shin probably got tired of waiting for me and just chasing. He jumped to the walls, which I followed just through my eyesight, not until I lost him.
It was too late for me to realize that he was already on the ceiling. He fell from above, which I wasn't aware of, so he forced me to fall to the ground with his feet stepping on my entire body.
I vomited a considerable amount of blood as soon as I felt my back hit the floor.
"Surrender yourself to me, Luna. You'd be living a better life with me than that powerless mate of yours who can't even make himself invincible against a disease." Shin howled as he repeatedly stomped on me, which made me hear my own bones cracking.
My hardened muscles weren't sufficient for defense.
So that is the difference between a rogue and an alpha?
I gritted my teeth at the same time that I held onto his feet in an attempt to get out of his captivity, which I successfully did after rolling around the floor and firmly standing up.
"Surrender? That ain't in my vocabulary." I spit out the last drop of blood that was stuck on my mouth before I wiped it off of my lips. "This fight won't end without either of us losing their lives."
I briefly glanced at Nero, who was supposed to handle three people at once, but it was only Lizzy who was still with him. Both Yuki and Jazpher were nowhere to be found within this vicinity, and I can't even detect where they went. I just hope that they're both hiding far from the alpha's reach.
"I asked you to give up, Luna." Shin insisted on convincing me as he proceeded to the shaman's position, stealing her away from his brother's hold. "You're going to be the one to regret things in the end, not me," he declared.
"L-Luna, save me." Lizzy broke into tears as she begged for her life to be spared. "I don't want to die. I don't want to die." She kept on repeating the same sentence over and over again.
My forehead wrinkled in confusion. "You're a shaman who's invulnerable to death. What are you saying? You wouldn't die even if anyone dared to kill you multiple times," I said.
Lizzy shook her head in desperation to tell me that she's no longer immortal, like how I first knew her. She further explained that the Crimson Moon Pack's virus around their mansion got into her system, leading her capabilities to deteriorate. She was safer back at their dormitories, but now that she got stuck in the pack house for too long, she got exposed to the virus.
That just means that Lizzy has a huge risk of losing her life here. I can't start to imagine how great her fear was at this moment, thinking about how she used to be immortal and now that she can no longer revive herself whenever she wants.
Lizzy's cries echoed, which kind of hurt me too.
"Release her, Shin. If you kill her, I'll seriously cut off your head from your body," I coldly said to warn him not to do anything funny. "Let her go," I demanded, slowly approaching them.
"A deal is a deal. Give up and be with me instead of your mate, then Lizzy would get out of my hands safe and sound. Otherwise, this would be the last time you'd hear her voice," Shin blurted out his condition.
I couldn't think of anything else now other than Jerome. I can't abandon him now, of all times. He needs me more than anything else in this world, and I'm certain that he'd rather have me sacrifice Lizzy than lose me just to save his life.
Shin let a few minutes of silence pass by before he finally slit Lizzy's throat, letting her blood splash through every corner of this place, which made me scream out her name, completely blaming myself for not being able to save her.
And I thought that it was the end of Lizzy's suffering, but it wasn't. Shin wasn't satisfied with just a mere slash of her throat.
The alpha mercilessly separated her head from her chest as he also slashed off her waist down to her thighs. Lizzy was now split into four parts. Lizzy's eyes were still open, and the tears that formed in her eyes were replaced with a red hue, making it look like she cried her own blood.
Lizzy is really gone now.
