Chapter 40
"Ohm about the ring, you see.." Adam was about to lie but his grandmother cut him off immediately.
"Don't you dare lie to me boy, are you guys even dating at all?" Eunice looked between I and Adam with eyes searching for answers.
"Of course Grandma! You see the engagement thing kind of started off on a wrong foot but now we are fine, right?" He turned to me. And I responded with a nod.
"First thing tomorrow morning, I promise grandma I will go get her the finest engagement ring there is because she deserves only the best." Adam looked at Catherine as he said those words, making her blush.
But Eunice wasn't still satisfied with his response, she just frowned at them.
"My baby!" A female voice echoed, ending the awkwardness of the whole engagement situation.
Catherine turned towards the sound of the voice as she saw a woman in her 40's probably 44 coming out of the kitchen with an apron on. She must be Adam's mom because of their striking resemblance.
"Mother!" Adam stood and embraced his mother as she approached him.
"My son, I have missed you so much."
Adam smiled. "But it has just been two weeks since we last saw each other, mother." He informed while she pulled his fluffy cheeks playfully.
"And those two weeks felt like forever." She cooed. "I missed you so much, hope you are staying longer this time around?"
"Ohm, no highest a week. I have to get back to work, you know right, but I promise to visit more frequently." He promised as he noticed a frown settled on his mother's face.
Pulling away from her a bit, Adam took in his mother's appearance. A smile of satisfaction settled on his face, he was pleased with what he saw.
"Mother, I love the way you look this time around. Grandma, thank you so much for taking care of my mother."
"You don't have to thank me boy, it is my responsibility." Eunice smiled, pleased that her grandson acknowledged and noticed her effort.
"Please come let's eat, I made lots of delicacies that I am sure you will both love." Naomi cooed excitedly.
"Oh no, how will this food fit in considering she just finished eating not too long ago." Catherine thought to herself as she turned to Adam giving him a look which he understood.
"Ohm mother, can we maybe eat these sweet delicacies later?" Naomi frowned at her son's questions considering the time and effort she put in making the food.
Eunice tapped her grandson lightly on his arm, before pulling his ear. "I thought I warned you to eat little because we have something nice prepared for the both of you?"
"Ah!” Adam flinched in pain.
"Please don't be upset with him he was just joking." I had to intervene to save the situation considering how Adam's mom was extremely disappointed, and how he is being scolded by his grandma.
"Mrs. Rutherford, we would love to try the delicious delicacies you made specifically for us." I smiled sweetly so she could see the sincerity in my words. It is better to have a taste than not to eat at all. That was one of my logos in life.
"Really?" Naomi's eyes brightened with excitement.
"Yes ma'am."
"Oh please call me Naomi, my name is Naomi, this naughty boy's mother."
"Mother! I am no longer a boy."
"But you will always be my baby boy." She cooed again, making everyone laugh. "So tell me," she turned to me. "What is your name?"
"My name is Catherine, Catherine Shawn."
"Nice meeting you Catherine. Now come let's go eat before the food gets cold." Calling one of the maids, she informed her when the maid arrived to set the table and bring in the food.
Within minutes the table was set and different food served. There was pasta, rice, plantains, chicken curry sauce, beef, fruit's salads, apple pie, cake's, spaghetti, and different varieties of wine.
I went for the cake first so it will aid in the digestion of my food first before I dive into this new food that has been set before. I found out in a movie series I watched not too long ago that sweets help in aiding digestion.
Although, I don't know how true that is, there is no harm trying right. Besides, I will confirm if the statement was true or false today.
"My dear, try the pasta with the plantain and fruit salad you will love." Naomi signaled for one of the maids standing at a corner to serve my food when she noticed I was only eating just cake and about to take the apple pie.
"Alright" I said, forcing a smile. I am still full from my previous meal. Although I feel like it is already digesting fast.
Patting my stomach a little, I force myself to belch. It was very helpful as a new space was created in my stomach.
Picking up my cutlery, I had a taste of my pasta with plantain and salad. And just as Naomi said it was delicious.
