Chapter 25 We'll Be A Dream
SIAM’s POV
“But I need to do this.” I whined.
“We know you do, but do understand that you are no longer the heir, but the King.” Felix, one of the Elders said again.
“But I can’t just leave my sister-” I gave them a look, “our deity, in the hands of those monsters.”
“We didn’t say we will.” Jon says, “What we are saying is that you cannot go with the men in the search.”
I sighed, I reached for my temple and started massaging it. It’s been an hour already and we haven’t moved on from this issue.
“King Siam-“ Greg starts.
“Siam.” I said. “Please, call me Siam.”
He sighed, “King Siam, you have to understand, you are the rightful heir and the only one at the moment, we cannot risk losing you or there will surely be chaos among our kind, none like you have seen.”
“That would be hard to believe.”I said in almost a whisper remembering the night of the attack. “There must be some other way that you can change your mind about this.”
They exchanged looks, “As of now, by law, you are still the prince, yes. But we must establish that you are the rightful king of the shifters.”
“And?”
“For you to be able to claim the throne-“
“Me claiming the throne is not the issue-“
“But it is part of the solution.” Jon says, “You can never find your sister if you are not the King, your highness, you know that by now.” I frowned. “You saw those men who call themselves alpha. They will not lend a hand unless they benefit anything.”
“They will benefit good and blessed lives from the Moon Goddess.” I pointed out.
“They already live the good life, your highness.” Felix says, “For mystical beings, those out there- well majority of them- are quite materialistic.”
I sighed, “How is this conversation helping.”
“To claim the throne you must be mated.” Greg says.
I stopped and looked up at all of them, all straight in the eyes. I wasn’t daring any of them to a fight, oh no. It was probably more of are- you- crazy look.
“I- I can’t…” I looked down my hand.
“You have found her haven’t you.” Jon stated, it wasn’t even a question.
“Yes.” No one is allowed to lie to the elders, King or not.
“Well, don’t be too excited about it.” Felix teased.
I sighed, as they chuckled. Then they gave me a sad smile.
“King Siam, you are young, yes. You have much responsibilities, yes. You think you are unprepared, yes.” Jon enumerated, “But do remember, age does not show wisdom, responsibility is just a long word for work, and there is no such thing as prepared for the job.”
“There will always be trouble, there will always be miscalculations and stupidity.” Greg continued, “I will tell you now, there probably won’t be an easy moment. Everyday is always critical, but no one said it would be easy. Cause if it is, then every simpleton can do it, and there will be no need of kings, presidents and that sort.”
“And when that day come,” Felix continues, “then we’ll all be out of jobs.”
This time I chuckled along with them.
What they said was true, there was no way I can really be prepared to be king, even if father taught me everything I need to know. Those were only the technical side, decisions and judgment, it comes at the moment when it is needed, and no one can teach you that.
“Now, this lady, your mate…” Felix says, “why have you not claimed her?”
“It was complicated.” I said, “Serenity needed me, and I can’t have both of them think that I’m choosing between them.”
“But you did.” Jon pointed out, “You chose your sister.”
I frowned, I had nothing to respond to that.
“We understand that you want to protect both of them.” Felix says, “Your sister being who she is, and your mate may be used against you. But do understand that you are fighting the natural order of things, you are meant to be with this girl. Now, more than ever.”
“Now, more than ever?” I asked.
“You are to lead the shifters, you will not do well without her by your side.” Greg says, “She is Yin and you are Yang.”
“The light in your dark.”
“The Day of your night.”
“The-“
“I get it.” I rolled my eyes. Geez, who would have known I’m meeting with Shakespeare’s brothers?
They shared another laugh making me whine.
“You heard that didn’t you?” I said.
“Well, as much as we are honored to be brother with the genius romantic, I think we are too young even for our old age.” Greg says.
I grinned, old age.
Everyone knew that the elders weren’t just chosen because of there wisdom, maybe they aren’t old as time, but they are old. About almost 150 years older, but they don’t even look 50 years older. Mama Ellena would be one of them in a couple of decades.
“You must take her as your mate, then everything will fall into place.” Jon says.
“How is that?”
“Cause then you will not need to carry all these burden alone.” Greg says, he held his hand to cut me off, “I know, I know, you wouldn’t want her in this mess, but the fate sees that she is fit for the job, then there is no way to fight it.” He then gives me a look, “Unless you tell her to bugger off.”
“I will do no such thing.” I snapped.
“Then there is no other reason not to marry her.” Felix says.
I shrugged, in all honesty, I had already set my mind on it after I had a talk with Eric. He was right, we need someone to calm one of us in case we get too stressed, tired or hot headed. And there was no other perfect girl but Anna, whether she is my mate or not, she already has us under her command, just like Serenity.
“You didn’t need to be so pushy about it.” I said, “I was already thinking about it, I’m just waiting for the right time.”
“And there is no right time than the present.” Felix says.
I nodded.
“Now that that is done, the search for your sister will come next.” Jon says. “Now, we know those alphas seem to be…”
“Hard headed? Stubborn? Arrogant?” Felix suggested, “Jerk?”
Jon and Greg gave him a look. I grinned, I knew Felix was the oldest one but he was the silly on according to dad. But he was very wise, he just never one to be serious.
“Well, they are.” Felix says and turns to me. “But like we said, your highness, you are the proper and rightful heir. Do not give in to their lame attempt of pulling you down. Your father may have been a peaceful and just alpha, but believe us, when he is inside the chamber along with these alphas, he can be as bad as the devil.”
I frowned and stared at him, with disbelief. Father? A devil? I looked back at the past few days we had been fighting and his stubbornness. I can imagine it.
“But you can put them into their place.”
“Me?” I asked.
Felix smirked. “I always believed that a young heart has more to lose therefore much more to fight for.” He paused, “To them they only lost what represents there deity, not there belief itself. And that may be true, but still, the Goddess has sent her here as a gift, one that they have seemed to have forgotten. You on the other hand, has lost your sister. The need, want and drive of finding her is greater for you, it is personal.” I frowned, he pressed his palms together and tipped his head sideward, “It may sound selfish, but who isn’t? And believe me, my boy, you are fighting so much more, your want to get her back home safe as soon as possible will save our kind. He leaned forward and dropped his voice in almost a whisper, “Fight always, young king, fight for what you believe is right.”
“And is this right?” I asked.
He smiled and sat back, “You know the answer to that.”
I sighed and gave a weak nod. At the same moment, the old grandfather clock that rested at the other side of the room hit twelve o’clock in the evening.
“We should end this here.” Felix says, “We will stay with you until you have found her.”
It has been known that the Elders prefer to live in seclusion, even from other elders.
“It is our job to help you young king.” Greg says after a long while of just listening to Felix.
I gave a weak bow, “Thank you, I will have you escorted to your rooms.”
“Thank you.” Jon says.
“And remember, king Siam.” I turned to Felix, “You need your mate, as much as she needs you. Putting this off is senseless.”
I grinned and nodded. I stepped out of the room and caught Eric and the boys outside in the hall, waiting for him.
“How did it go?” Eric asked.
“Well, we did get the blessing of finding Serenity…” I said, “I think.”
“You think?” Jake asked.
I rolled my eyes, “I mean, they have, it was just a weird talk, that’s all.”
“Well, when can we start the search?” Eric asks, anxious.
Of course he was, my sister’s his mate. He probably would have still done it with or without the blessing of the elders.
“As soon as I mate Anna, I guess.”
“Well that won’t be too hard.” Aaron says checking his watch. “You can do it now and be done by four then we can start tomorrow afternoon.”
I gave him a look, wanting to hit him on the nape, which Jake did for me.
“Ow!” he massaged his nape, “What the hell?”
I start to walk toward our rooms. “I want to do this right.” I said. “It’s the least I can do for making her wait.”
“When do you want the wedding?” Eric asked with a grin.
“As soon as possible,” I said, “as much as I want this right, I still need to move quickly for Serenity.”
His grin easily turned into a smile, as saying thank you.
“I’ll talk to Cam to prepare everything you need.” Eric says.
“Thank you.” I said, and finally reached our room, a bit faster than I expected.
“Should we wait?” Jake asked.
I shook my head, “I’ll be fine, you boys rest.”
“Good luck.” Eric says.
“You got this.” Jake smirked making me chuckled.
“Piece of cake.” Aaron added.
“Thanks guys.” I said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Nah,” Jake says as they walk away, “We’ll see you tomorrow. Probably midafternoon?”
I shook my head and stepped into my room. The moment I closed my door, I leaned on it and took a deep breath.
I stared at the moon lit room and walked toward my bed and sat by the side table, from it’s drawer I pulled out what I’ve had been staring at every night for the last two years.
I popped open the wooden box that held my most treasured possession, the box itself looked beautiful and old had just made it look delicate. But what it held was far more breath taking. Inside was the Knight family ring, one that is given to every queen to be.
I smiled remembering how mother had given it to me the same day that she found out about Anna.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Flashback~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Siam?” I looked up from my wary state and saw my mother standing at the door, smiling. It was what Serenity, Liam, Anna and I called mom moment.
“Hey mom…” I said.
“You ok?” she asked, I sighed and shook my head. She chuckled and closed the door behind her and sat beside me, propped a pillow up on the head board, and leaned on it. “Anna’s with the others, your uncle Luke is as crazy as he use to be,” she sighed, “I guess it wasn’t some sickness after all.” I gave her a questioned look, “Seems like he’s naturally silly, or maybe the moon drop can’t heal that kind of thing, what do you think?”
I laughed. I knew how much mom loved Uncle Luke, he was like a brother to her.
When they were younger, uncle Luke and mom were best friends, father was best friends with Aunt Kaye, Liam’s mom. But mom and her family left town even before she met dad. Uncle Luke met dad and Aunt Kaye and they clicked. Uncle Luke mated with Aunt Kaye leaving dad to be the third wheel.
On their senior year in high school, mom came back. She was uncle Luke’s neighbor and he showed her arpund school and introduced her to Aunt Kaye and dad, and bam! They lived happily ever after and had gorgeous and hot children. Ok, I’ll settle for perfect.
“You know, your father practically gave you the crown.”
“I know.”
“And you need to claim that.”
“I know.”
“But you’d need to claim your mate first, before that.”
I rolled my eyes and hit the back of my head on the wall behind me. I closed my eyes and repeated it.
“Stop that.” she said, putting her hand between my head and the wall. Then I turned to her, looking lost. She gave me a smile, then moved her hand from my head to my face. “Siam…”
“I can’t even take care of Serenity…” I said, “Anna will just be in danger with me-“
“I didn’t raise you to be a quitter Siam Clarence.” She said, her voice firm.
“I know mom, but-“
“No buts.” She said, “This is not just a responsibility, son. This is your fate and the love of your life. Hell, she’s probably already your life.”
“She is…” I admitted, that was followed by her taking my hand and pulling it toward her. Then I felt her place something cold on my palm, I looked at it and was easily impressed by the box.
“This is the Knight Family engagement ring.” She said. “Your father gave that to me when I was nineteen years old.” I raised a brow. “Yes, like you and Anna we waited for a year before we got together.”
“Why?”
“Cause I asked him.” she sighed, “Your father was, well, a little wilder than you boys are, to tell you the truth.”
“Wilder?”
She grinned, “Women, booze, parties, gangs… thank goodness, your aunt Kaye and I got to them before they got into drugs.”
“You were doubtful of him...?”
“Oh no.” she quickly answered, shaking her head. “On the contrary, I stood beside him all the whole year that I will not let him touch me or be near me.”
“What’s the point then?” I asked.
She then stared at our feet, thinking. “You know when someone offers you something you want, yet you act as if you don’t want it until you know that that person truly wants you to have it?”
“Uhm, yeah, I guess…”
“That’s what I did.” She said. “I didn’t promise your dad that I would give myself to him if he stops his foolishness, but I did promise to, at least, accept his love. I already accepted him as my mate. The bond was there, I can’t deny that. But I want him to see what he is losing because of what he is doing.”
I grinned, “Well, I guess it worked well in the end.”
She smiled and looked back at me, “It worked better, and it probably benefited him more in the end.”
“Why is that?”
“Well, he finally proven that he is worth the name of the Knight, born to lead. We got together and…” she paused and her smiled widened.
“And?”
“I learned to love him even at his worst moments.” She said. “That his foolishness is something natural to him, but it doesn’t mean he’s heartless. If it means anything, all the stubbornness he’s been showing recently, is his stupid way of showing his love for your sister.”
I sighed remembering the fight I had with him the other day that caused him his throne.
“Mom, I can’t…”
“Yes you can.” She said. “I can see how hard it is for you and Anna fighting the pull between you, but aside that, I can see how much you love each other, its just stupid to hurt yourselves more.” I stared at the box again. “Serenity already has Eric, its your turn for your happy ending.”
I shook my head, “I don’t want a happy ending mom.” I said, then I looked up at her, smiling, “I want a happily ever after.”
She smiled at me, “Then get your happily ever after.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*End.Of.Flashback~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I sighed, now she wouldn’t even see my happily ever after. I thought.
But at least I still have a chance to get it. And I will not let anyone else miss it, well, maybe Serenity will, but she’d be proud of me for doing what I and the whole world knows what is right.
Then I stood up and ran out of my room.
I knew that everyone was asleep, except for the guards, who bowed whenever I come across one. I finally reached Anna’s room.
“Is she asleep?” I asked the guard that was stationed outside her room.
“Yes, your highnesss” he said, “she closed her lights right about the same time you have parted with the elders.” He blushed and grinned, “she said you should know better than keeping the elders way pass their bed time.”
I chuckled and shook my head. “Thank you.” then I reached for the door knob and opened the door, I peeked inside the moonlit room, my eyes was on the bed, when I was near enough I noticed that the covers were drawn and the bed was empty, I looked around and saw the room empty, there was no scent of intruders, so where is she.
A light breeze came from the terrace which sent me a fresh scent of her. I stepped out and saw her looking up at the moon, it was at almost at its last quarter phase. Still it was beautiful like every other night.
“You should be asleep.” She said without looking my way.
“So should you.” I said walking up to her.
She sighed, “Serenity always said that if there ever came a day that we have to separate, I should just look at the moon, and I’ll feel fine.”
I grinned, “I don’t think it was smart of her to compare herself to the moon, she isn’t that fat.”
She chuckled and nudge me, “She isn’t fat, we’re practically the same size.”
“Oh, well…” I wrapped my arms around her and she leaned back on me, “I don’t want to compare you to the moon either, even if its as beautiful as always.”
She smiled and turned to face me. “What are you doing here Siam?”
I stared at her half moon lit face, making her more beautiful than I ever thought possible.
“I wanted to see you.” I said. “I missed you.”
“Don’t be silly Siam, we’ve been together pretty much every moment that those alphas weren’t here.”
I frowned, “You mean you didn’t miss me?”
“I did.” She said, running her hand through mu shoulder and my chest. I had to fight the urge to run my hand all over her body. “I just kept in mind that you are now the king, you have work and responsibilities-”
“I’m your mate, you don’t need appointments to see me, nor will you ever come second to me, even if its alpha king duties.”
She smiled, “And here I was thinking I should apply to be your secretary or something.”
I raised a brow, “Hm, interesting thought. I’d make you wear those high skirts that hugs your waist and legs, and your blouse needs to be light colored and with buttons-“
“Buttons?”
“Easy access.” I said.
She laughed and gave me a light slap on the chest. “Pervert much.”
“Of my mate?” I said, “I would be lying if I deny it.”
She then smirked and raised her brow as well, “You know that those pencil skirts you want as easy access as the blouse.”
I smiled and rested my forehead on hers. “Not because I’m king everything should be easy.”
I grinned, remembering what Felix said.
She smiled, keeping her eyes in mine, “Someone did some growing up for the last few hours.”
“Well, I need to if I want to fulfill my promise to you.” She frowned as I let her go and stepped back, taking her hand. “Do you remember the night I told you that you were my mates?” she nodded, looking nervous, that if I wasn’t nervous as well, I would have laughed at her reaction. “Well, it was the same night that I have stopped dreaming.”
“What?” she asked.
I grinned, “When I told you that I love you, I would have asked nothing more than to hear you say it back. but you didn’t.” she opened her mouth but I cut in, “I knew better than ask you that, making you wait and giving you the impression that Serenity is more important must have hurt you, so I was in no place to hear words from you that would make me feel better, I don’t deserve it.” She frowned, “But the thing is, you didn’t need to tell me, you showed me that you love me. I took note of every small gesture, even when we were fighting over the lamest things, I knew it was because you loved me.”
“With all that, my dreams can’t give justice to the already perfect life I had, even if I couldn’t be with you the way I would want to, it was already perfect just seeing you.” I continued, “But I don’t think its enough now that I know you are mine. That you aren’t just a dream, I want you to now and be assured that I am yours.”
I pulled out the box from my back pocket, where I slid it in before I wrapped her in my arms.
“Oh my…”
“Anna, I made a promise that I will make you mine, tell the world that I am yours…” I said. “I know you are thinking that this may not be the best time, but it is. Not only because by law the king must be mated, but because I can never rule alone. I need you and your witty remarks, your long opinions, and your stubbornness to remind me that I am not always right.” I popped the box open, revealing the wash gold ring, where the Knight family crest was marked within the diamond whish was set between two smaller diamonds on its side.
“Anna Sofia Carlton,” I said, pulling the ring out of the box and slowly slid it through her ring finger, “you have been my dream, my world and my life and it would give me honor and pride to have you as the queen of my men, the mother of my children and my wife.” I stared at her tear filled eyes, “As I promise, again” she stifled a laugh, “to fulfill your every dream, as you have done for me, if you will marry me…”
I held my breath, waiting for her respond, I knew I didn’t ask a question. What I offered her was an option, I want her to want to be with me. To be part of my complicated life, and it wouldn’t even surprise me if she said no.
“Yes.” She finally said, I frowned. “Yes Siam.”
With that she threw her arms around my neck and hugged me. to be frank, I was a bit- ok, a lot, shocked of her answer. She was the practical one among us, entering this crazy life isn’t like her.
And as if realizing that I wasn’t moving she looked at me smiled, probably read through me.
“I’m already part of this craziness Siam.” She said. “You should have said sorry when you introduced me to Serenity when we were kids, she demanded me to stay.”
I finally broke out of my thoughts and stared at her and shook my head, “I’ll never would do that.” I said, “I’m glad you stayed.”
With that I pulled her close to me and let my lips meet hers. The kiss was like no other.
Now that we have somehow taken one step before we mate, the need and want is stronger, I’ve had steamier and more urgent kiss with Anna, but this was different. This was slow, passionate and calming. Then I realized that the kisses before was filled with need and assurance from us, but that’s no longer needed.
She is mine and I am hers.
Her yes is enough assurance for me.
