A New Family
“Diana? Wake up. Are you having a nightmare?” she heard a voice call out.
“Diana, everything will be alright. We are here for you,” another chimed in.
“Please keep fighting Milady,” another added.
‘Why is everyone so noisy? Didn’t they know that they should keep it down when someone is sleeping?’
She could feel that there were people holding her hand. She was just sleeping though.
‘What were they so worried about?’
There was a warm touch upwards from her cheek to the corner of her eyes and to her temple. It was a gentle brush of a finger but she could tell from the heat and the feeling that it was a man’s hand.
‘What is a man doing in my room? Did my ex-husband come to bother me?! Why was he touching me familiarly when we were already divorced?’
“Don’t touch me!”
Diana opened her eyes and sat up straight as she violently pushed the hand away.
“My deepest apologies, that was brazen of me,” she heard a man say.
“Eh?”
Diana blinked when she saw an angelic man kneeling beside her bed. One hand was on his chest and his head was bowed.
‘Was he the one who touched my face? Why was he kneeling? But seriously, he looked like an angel. Where does he hide his wings?’
“Diana, it is alright. You have nothing to fear. You are safe now,” a celestial maiden said and hugged her.
“Yes. We will not let anyone harm you ever again,” another celestial maiden said and hugged her too.
Diana hugged them back. This may be her only chance to touch celestial maidens. The kneeling angel was ignored in the meantime.
‘I went to heaven after all didn’t I? Why would I be with celestial maidens and angels if I didn’t?’
The young girl’s memories surfaced in her mind and she recognized the celestial maidens. They were actually the girl’s elder sisters Lumina and Francesca.
‘Ah, that’s right. I had died and was transmigrated in another world into a girl’s body. I’m Diana Rose of Evymeria now. How could I forget? It will take time to get used to this,’ Diana mentally face-palmed.
Diana realized that she had regained consciousness yesterday but she had blacked out again due to the girl’s memories flooding into her mind.
Her “new” sisters informed her that she was unconscious for a whole day. She looked around the room. It was so luxurious. She was the daughter of a duke indeed. She recognized that this was not the girl’s room but it was as extravagant. Everything looked sparkly and expensive.
“Are you alright?” one of her sisters said and touched her wrist to check her pulse.
“Does it hurt anywhere?” the other looked her up and down and touched her forehead and neck to check her temperature.
“You seem to be fine but you must be hungry. I will have them bring food right away,” the one who checked her pulse which she recognized as Lumina, instructed the servants nearby.
Diana recognized that the other people in the room were personal maids, butlers, and guard knights.
“Your temperature is back to normal as well. But do not force yourself. Tell us immediately if something does not feel right.” The one who checked her temperature, Francesca, instructed the maids to bring warm water and towels.
Her new sisters bombarded her with their worried questioning. Diana could tell that the girl was indeed loved and doted upon.
After checking her well-being her sisters hugged her again and they shed tears of joy and relief.
“Thank goodness you are safe and fine now,” the two kept hugging her.
Diana remained silent as they held her tightly. According to the girl’s memory, her elder sisters loved her so much. They doted on her since she was the youngest and the age gap was huge. Lumina was twenty-three and Francesca was twenty-one.
The thought that this two kind and loving sisters would never be with their real sister ever again saddened her. She would be their sister from now on in place of the young girl.
Her heart ached the more they said that they were relieved that she survived.
‘That’s wrong,’ she wanted to say.
But how could she say that to these sisters who did their best to prolong the girl’s life and safeguard her body until a potion was made?
According to the girl, there was no antidote that could cleanse the poison. The Evymeria daughters were all proficient in healing magic and detoxifying poison was one of their specialties due to their future as Royals’ wives.
However, their magic and the antidotes they have did not work. Thus, as a last resort, they steeled their heart and froze their own sister to stop the poison from spreading.
Her two elder sisters apparently made a lot of antidotes and tested them but it did not work. Thus, she remained frozen until an antidote made by Frederick – the best magician in the country, finally worked.
“Miladies, Lord Frederick is still waiting for Milady Diana’s forgiveness,” one of the attendants reminded them. Diana recognized her as Queen Isabella’s most trusted maid.
In wonder, she blinked twice when she realized that the whole time she was having an emotional reunion with her siblings, Frederick – the forgotten angel was still kneeling on the floor for who knows why.
“My apologies,” her sisters both said at the same time.
“I was overjoyed that Diana was finally awake that I forgot myself,” Lumina explained.
“I as well,” Francesca agreed.
“Please rise Lord Frederick. I believe my sister was merely surprised a while ago. It was not her intention to reprimand or offend you,” Lumina cleared. Frederick looked at Diana for confirmation.
“What’s going on?” Diana was confused. She did not understand since when did she do something.
‘I just woke up. Why was I reprimanding or offending anyone?’
“A while ago, the servants called us saying that you were crying in your sleep so we all rushed in here. We were worried that you were having a nightmare,” Francesca started to explain.
“While Francesca and I were holding you and trying to comfort you, Lord Frederick wiped your tears with his fingers,” Lumina continued.
“It seems to have alerted you. You suddenly sat up wide-eyed while pushing his hand away as you screamed for him not to touch you,” Francesca clarified.
“Oh, that was him.” Diana turned her gaze to the still kneeling angel.
She had thought it was her former husband and the thought of him ever touching her again disgusted her.
‘Who would have thought it was the aloof-looking angel?’
“I sincerely apologize, Lady Diana. I did not mean to surprise you. It was brazen of me to touch you without permission,” Frederick apologized again with a bowed head.
Diana blinked and tilted her head in realization. He was the one who was apologizing when she just woke up.
‘And he was kneeling because of that and lowering his head?’
Then she recalled that she was higher in rank due to their territory being number one and the closest to the King and Queen.
“He was merely worried about you that he could not help but wipe your tears,” Lumina said in a teasing voice.
Frederick looked away seeming embarrassed. He was not blushing or anything. He still looked like a cold and aloof angel. But he was apologetic and with her years of experience with men, Diana could tell he was embarrassed.
She found it rather cute that she wanted to tease him. He was younger than her in her former world’s age after all
“It was indeed brazen to touch a lady without permission,” Diana pretended to be offended and watched as Frederick and his attendants stiffened at her words.
“But since Lord Frederick did it out of worry for me, then I do not mind,” she added and smiled sweetly. She could see most of the attendants in the room sigh in relief.
The angel-looking Frederick meanwhile stared at her. He seemed to be pondering whether she did forgive him or not.
“I forgive you. You may rise,” Diana had to say or else he would continue kneeling. She was relieved when he finally stood up.
“It was rather rude of me to have my savior kneeling on the ground for such a long time,” she added and for some reason, the servants stiffened again.
“Not at all. It was my mistake. Rest assured, I will not do it again. As for the antidote I made for you, please do not worry about it. It was my duty. Rather, it was Lady Lumina and Lady Francesca’s quick thinking that had saved your life,” Frederick replied.
Diana looked at her two sisters. Frederick must have meant when the two ‘froze her in time’ as the girl described when they realized that it was beyond their capability to heal her.
“You do not have to be so humble Lord Frederick. Without you gathering all those extremely rare ingredients and finally creating an antidote, we do know how long our beloved sister would have continued to stay frozen. We are ever so grateful.”
Lumina and Francesca elegantly bowed their head slightly.
“The pleasure is mine. It was my duty as her . . .” Frederick stopped and did not continue but Diana already had an inkling of what he was about to say.
Her servants arrived with a basin of warm water and towels.
“I believe it is time I excuse myself,” Frederick said instead and left with his aides.
Diana watched him carefully. He used her servants’ arrival to not continue what he was about to say. He must have thought that she did not know yet that he was her fiancé now. But the girl had already told her.
Now that she saw him, the girl was right about him looking cold and aloof. It only enhanced his appeal though. He did not look like a bad person either. And his looks were top-notch. He looked rather interesting. With a guy like that as her fiancé, her life here might not be boring at all. He looked like the hard-to-charm type though.
“We will give you some privacy for now. We shall check the food preparation to make sure it is safe.”
Her sisters also excused themselves. They must have gone to talk with Frederick on how and when to reveal things to her.
‘Ah, they must have it rough,’ she thought as the servants moved around to prepare things.
She looked around the room again, silently wondering where she was. Her servants did not offer to explain so she did not ask. They may be in a secret location due to the poisoning. Maybe her servants do not even know what the place was.
If she was just in another room, the carpet, curtains, and beddings design would not have been so different from the girl’s room in Evymeria.
Diana sighed as she recalled how this all started. It was just yesterday when she woke up to this body and received the memories of its former owner. Now she had to live as Diana Rose. She had to be careful of her language and the way she acted.
A/N: And now she has a new family. Look forward to what else she gained in her new world.
