Doting Sisters
The girl’s servants were rejoicing that Diana was finally awake. They were crying in glee and kneeled at her feet once her sisters and the other people in the room all left.
Her personal maid was named Luane and her knight was called Hilda. The two were from the branch families of the Evymeria ducal family.
They had both pledged loyalty to the girl since she was young. And they were educated and trained by the ducal family teachers so they could serve her well.
According to the girl’s memory, branch families educate and train their children well and send the best to serve the ducal family.
The ducal family would then test the children sent by the branch families and educate those who passed the test.
Maid and knights were not only educated about their own field. Maids were also trained how to fight and knights were also taught what was a maid’s job.
However, a knight would train longer about combat while a maid would also spend more time learning the ways of an attendant.
It was a system to assure the highest quality of service could be provided to the duchy and ensure the safety of the ducal family.
Diana also had other servants with the two. Alexa and Emlyn support Hilda while Lisa and Anna aide Luane. The others were left in Evymeria to maintain the secrecy of her location.
These servants were loyal to the little girl. They served her with all their might and acquiesced to all her whims while ensuring she still remained safe.
Diana reassured them that she was fine now and she was finally able to convince them after several attempts.
Her servants intended to just wipe her face and use cleaning magic for the rest but she wanted a warm soak and a thorough bath so they took her to the bathroom. It would also be a good time to collect her thoughts.
They were scared that it might be too much for her to stand up since she had been asleep for three months.
However, Diana was not in a coma. She was frozen in time so when she was returned to normal, her body did not suffer from atrophy. Her body was back to how it was before she was poisoned. She could stand and walk on her own but the maids still assisted her in fear that she might collapse.
She was relieved to find that her new world also had a nice bath. They had a hot shower, a wide bathtub, and a nice and clean flushable toilet just like the ones she was used to in her former world. It was all powered by magic though. They also had scented soaps, shampoo, and body scrub.
‘Thank god all these things are here! They have everything necessary for personal hygiene.’
They also had a clear mirror, unlike the ones she had read in some novels where the mirrors might be different. She was reminded that she did not go back in time. She was transmigrated to another world and took over the girl’s body.
She gazed at her new body. The girl was tall for a twelve-year-old. She was also absolutely adorable, already a rare beauty at the age of twelve.
‘No wonder the elder sisters looked like celestial maidens. A grown-up version of the girl would surely look ethereal.’
Diana looked at herself in the mirror and lightly pinched her cheek. Diana was now a gorgeous little girl instead of an alluring adult woman.
She was indeed the Diana Rose of Evymeria now. She had to stop thinking of herself as another person. She was now in her next life and she should try living her life here from now on and fulfill the little girl’s wish as well.
First of all, she had to make sure that her life was safe. If she died too soon, she would not be able to fulfill anything or do something for herself.
If Frederick was the most powerful magician in the country, then he was indeed the best husband candidate. Not to mention that his looks had already surpassed the meter.
Recalling Frederick’s long-white hair that seemed to scream of purity and innocence, she rather felt guilty in marrying such an angelic-looking person.
She felt like she was sullying him since her mind was that of an impure adult woman who already had a lot of experiences with other men. She rather felt bad for Frederick now that she thought about it.
‘Why did I have to be into such a young body? How sinful!’
But marrying him would be her best option to prolong her life. According to the girl’s memories, Frederick was wise and reliable. He would be a good ally if she wanted to have a good life here.
From the girl’s memories, it was clear that the society here was highly patriarchal – meaning she needed a powerful husband that would also treat her well.
It would surely be hard to find one but since Frederick was already her fiancé and he seemed to fit the bill, then all was good. They saved her from the long search that might not have any good results.
Ranks matter very much as well. The nobility was highly respected. But even the nobility was ranked according to their family’s history, influence, their territory’s prosperity, magical abilities, and their degree of usefulness to the royal family and the kingdom.
Diana was from the Dukedom of Evymeria, the highest-ranked duchy and her eldest sister was the Queen. Their duchy was prosperous and their family was influential and powerful. The ducal family was also rich with mana, especially the women.
The men in the ducal were usually raised to be knights and vassals of the King and the females were raised as future Queen candidates. Ducal Evymeria sons and daughters were also the likely spouses of other royal family members.
It was unlikely that Diana would be treated badly as long as Evymeria stayed in the top rank. The Dukedom of Varondel, where Frederick comes from was ranked third.
‘Wait, doesn’t that mean that marrying Frederick would actually lower my rank? Wouldn’t that be bad?’
Even Frederick, the strongest magician in the country had to bow her head to her. She suddenly wondered if she should just remain in Evymeria as assistant to the duke. But that was highly unlikely.
Their eldest sister was married to the King for political reasons. And the daughters of the Evymeria ducal family were basically trained to be the best wife candidates in the country.
The royal family still had unmarried princes though. She thought that perhaps she should check them out first before agreeing with the engagement with Frederick.
‘Wasn’t I supposed to be the most doted upon among the family? Why were they giving me away to a lower-ranked duchy?’
Her thoughts were disturbed as her maids called upon her that her meal was ready so she needed to get changed. To her embarrassment, her maids helped her bathe, dried her hair, and dressed her as well.
‘I somehow need to get used to this.’
Her meal was supposed to be brought to her room but she insisted that she was fine with dining with her sisters as usual. Her maids could not say no as she insisted and asked them to lead her to the dining hall.
She froze when Lumina and Francesca almost screamed but covered their mouths instead when they saw her. They looked like they wanted to run to her but as noble ladies, they had to walk elegantly.
It was Frederick who reached her first and he looked like he was ready to carry her any second.
“I am fine,” she quickly reassured them.
“You should have just stayed in your room. What if you collapse?” Lumina said to her gently but she scolded Diana’s servants.
“Did you just take a bath?” Francesca seemed to have picked up the new scent on her hair. She scolded Diana’s attendants as well for bathing her when she just woke up from a long sleep.
Her two sisters then continued scolding her servants as Frederick escorted her to a chair. With escorting, she meant he had to hold her hand. He looked reluctant to offer his hand but did it anyway. He must have thought that she might collapse.
“Elder sisters, please stop scolding them. It was my fault. I insisted on a bath. I also insisted that they lead me here.”
She felt sorry for her maids who did nothing wrong but got scolded in her place. Her sisters must not have wanted to scold her since she just woke up. They sighed and each sat next to her. Frederick was seated in front of her.
“What are going to do if you collapsed? You are going to give your elder sister a heart attack,” Lumina gently chided.
“Sorry for worrying you. But I am fine now sister. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, I would not suddenly collapse any minute now.”
Their maids served the food. She could not help but notice the silverware. They were wary of poison. Taste-testing or rather a poison checking was done before they could finally eat.
She recalled that noble dining had a lot of rules. Her maids would serve her food and she would elegantly eat her meal. Or so she thought.
Diana stared at her sisters when Francesca insisted that she would be the one serving her meal. Lumina had dragged her chair closer so she would be right beside her.
She turned at her servants to ask what was going on and they all bowed their heads and stared at the floor.
‘What?! They were abandoning me?! How could I trust them if they could not even help me in a minor situation like this?’
Diana could not believe the behavior of her servants. She thought they were loyal to the little girl but who would have thought they would not help her the first time she asked them for help.
