First Breakfast
On the seat opposite hers, even Frederick looked puzzled by the behavior of Diana’s sisters but his facial expression did not change at all. There was only a slight arc of the eyebrow for a second but Diana noticed it anyway.
Diana realized that Frederick’s two older brothers were also there. The oldest brother was seated in front of Francesca and the second older brother was seated in front of Lumina. She could not help but feel that it was not at all coincidental.
‘Were they also paired up?’
Frederick’s brothers seemed to be shocked at the behavior of her sisters. They were gawking and only recalled to compose themselves when they realized that she glanced at them.
‘My beloved new sisters, you are disgracing yourselves,’ she wanted to say but kept it in her mind.
“Oh please do not mind us and dine as usual,” Lumina said when she noticed the men observing them. Francesca quickly agreed.
“Diana let me feed you,” Lumina suddenly said in a sweet voice as she held Diana’s soup that Francesca had personally served.
Lumina scooped up the soup with a silver spoon and said, “You should start with this light soup since you have not had anything for some time.”
Diana stared at Lumina in horror as she tried to feed her.
“Elder sister, I can eat it myself.”
“Your body just recovered. You should not push yourself. Rely on your sister. Okay?” Lumina insisted.
‘How is holding a spoon pushing myself? What’s wrong with them? Did servants feed until they were teens or something?’
Diana could also see Francesca choosing what food to put on her plate before having her chair moved right next to hers just as Lumina did.
“Come on Diana. Start with the soup so I could also feed you,” Francesca smiled at her gently like a mother. She looked like she was looking forward to feeding Diana.
‘What the hell is going on with these two? I am twenty-eight years old! I’m older than them and I don’t need anyone feeding me. Did they do this to the little girl often?’
Diana searched the girl’s memories and found that they often did this when she was a kid. The last time was when she was seven years old and they had to keep pestering her before she agreed.
The others on the opposite side of the table were staring at them in surprise and confusion at what was going on.
“Respected elder sisters, as I said earlier, I am fine now. And I am not a kid anymore. I can feed myself.”
Diana could understand them wanting to dote on her after the assassination attempt but spoon-feeding was too much. Especially with three handsome adult males in front of her. Not to mention even their servants and guard knights were good-looking as well. She cannot afford to be embarrassed in a place like this. Not on her honor as an adult woman in her previous life.
“Just relax and let your elder sisters pamper you,” Lumina and Francesca appealed.
“No way. The last time I remember doing this was when I was young. I am a grown-up now. Please mind your manners. Stop embarrassing me in front of everyone.”
In the end, she had to say it clearly for her sisters to understand. Her fiance was watching right in front of her so she cannot back down on this.
‘What man would like a kid still being spoon-fed to be his wife?’
She would be the one having problems if Frederick got scared that he would have to baby her as her sisters do.
“That is exactly why we were supposed to be in your room,” Francesca replied.
Diana almost face-palmed right there and then. Her patience was waning thin. But she had to remind herself that she was an adult and the oldest one among everyone seated around the table so she should be the one with the most patience.
“Was it not because you were worried about me collapsing?”
“Of course, that was the number one reason. This was secondary but it is also important,” Lumina added.
“We are not doing this even in my room,” Diana said with finality. She would not survive in this world if they turn her into a child. Diana refused to budge. Even the little girl herself did not like this kind of behavior from her sisters.
More importantly, the girl was already considered a lady in this world’s perception. She was already at the age where she started looking for husband candidates and start dating.
Spoon-feeding was surely a turn-off in this world. She did not need to embarrass herself right on her first day here and disappoint her supposed fiancé. She would not be able to face the little girl in the afterlife.
“But we missed you dearly,” Lumina looked at her with teary eyes.
Diana felt like she was being mean. It was so hard to turn away and avoid looking at Lumina.
“We have not seen you in months,” Francesca said this time. She looked like she was begging her that Diana gulped and looked at the table instead.
Lumina and Francesca pouted. They looked rather cute and it was hard to refuse them if they appeal to her like that so she avoided looking at them.
“If you did not wake up, I would have jumped out the window of my room at the castle,” Lumina suddenly said and everyone paled.
Lumina said it so nonchalantly like it did not concern her at all. But she did not look like she was kidding. The palest was probably the man seated opposite Lumina’s.
“Indeed. If you never woke up, I would have just drunk a sleeping potion that would make me sleep forever,” Francesca chimed in. She did not seem to be kidding either. Everyone turned paler. The gentle-looking man in front of Francesca gawked at her sister as he blinked rapidly like he was about to cry.
Diana mentally face-palmed with both hands in exasperation.
‘Why did my first breakfast in this new world turn into this? Was this what the girl meant when she said someone had to continue living as her for the sake of her sisters’ will to live? They were actually suicidal?! Just what exactly happened to this family?!’
“Elder sisters! Please do not say something like that ever again. And do not even think about it. What will become of me if I lost any of you?” She scolded her newfound sisters.
“Exactly. What would we do without you dear sister?”
Lumina returned the question to her. She was not trying to be sarcastic at all. She looked like she was just stating facts.
“Our lives do not matter anymore if we lost you too,” Francesca added and Lumina nodded in agreement.
“Francesca! Lumina! What do you both think you are saying to your youngest sister who just woke up?” the gentle-looking man who was on the verge of crying a while ago was now furious.
Diana looked around and noticed that Frederick and the other brother were also angry.
Lumina and Francesca both gasped as if they have just woken up from a trance. They were wide-eyed as they profusely apologized to Diana and checked her if she was alright.
Their eyes looked panicked, so sad, and scared. Diana gulped and hugged her sisters. They held her tightly to the point it hurt.
“Everything will be alright. We will get through this together,” she started comforting them.
Diana suspected something major must have happened to the other family members. As such, the two must have been in so much pain all this time. They were barely holding on for the sake of their youngest sister. They looked sorrowful and lonely. They seemed scared that if something went wrong, Diana might vanish.
“I am here with both of you. I would not go anywhere,” she reassured them.
“I am alive and well. And I will continue to grow up with both of you so please continue to guide me like you always did. Please promise me you both would not ever consider ending your own lives ever again. Everything will be alright as long as we are together,” she tightened her arms around them.
Lumina and Francesca swiftly promised when Diana asked and the men sighed in relief. Diana also promised to let them pamper her later in her room during lunch and dinner.
After that, they finally had breakfast in a calmer mood. It was still tense though. The males at the opposite of the table were carefully observing their every movement.
If Diana was in her previous world she would have scolded them for looking too much and told them to mind their own business.
Diana understood though that the brothers were too shocked by what Lumina and Francesca have said moments ago that they must still be bothered by it.
But their observing eyes were too much. If she was not used to getting watched like that, she would have not been able to raise even her fork. Include all the servants standing and waiting nearby, and it made things even more difficult. The food that tasted like sand to her, became even worse.
It took so much effort for Diana to pretend that the food was delicious. She just hoped that no one noticed. She had smiled the whole time after all.
Diana was so relieved when the meal was finished without any problems. She could finally return to her room and let these people talk about what they needed to talk about.
Frederick offered to walk her to her room but Diana instantly refused and walked with her servants. She did not need to disturb the adults when they had to patch things up first. She stayed in her room until Lumina and Francesca visited her as was promised.
