Consumed his thoughts!
Alpha Zayne Steele
"Damn, dude, I see the old man is still stuck in his ways," Mekhi said and sighed, shaking his head negatively after thinking about Zayne's old man. Instantly breaking Zayne out of his thoughts again!
"Hmn," Zayne shook his head, narrowed his eyes, then exhaled, swiping his hands over his face again.
Putting his father behind him, Zayne continued to share his crazy back and forth about this white wolf during the past two weeks, from thinking Leandra was the white wolf to thinking maybe it was simply that he needed to protect someone, then if so he felt it could have been either Jane Doe or Leandra.
He had really mulled this over, thinking of who recently came into his life that he may need to keep safe if that was what it meant. To say this dream had messed with Zayne's sanity was an understatement.
He recalls that same Friday evening after the night of the burning, Zayne was ready to use his ace in the hole after the meeting, so he quickly made his way to his office, leaving Mekhi behind to run point and see that things were being carried out as planned.
Zayne hadn't touched Leandra since that night in the two weeks that passed. He had hoped he had not hurt her or anything, hoping she did not desire anything more from him regarding a relationship.
Zayne recalls how, for a fleeting moment, he had wondered if Leandra was the white wolf that came into his life. Zayne was trying to rack his brain behind the meaning of the dream or if it meant anything as he had done the entire two weeks.
But yip, Zayne had strongly felt Leandra was the white wolf he wanted to protect from his dreams. He even wondered what it could mean, if he needed to protect her from her father, wondering where Alpha Dartwood was and what crazy deal he was brokering now for his daughter's hand in marriage.
Because on that day, after the burning and everything settled, he'd noticed that Alpha Dartwood and his wife had disappeared. And they believed it was during the burning while everyone but a few patrol guards was distracted.
He knew Leandra was worried because she thought her father would try and get to her to get her back in line.
"Alpha Zayne, I was now coming to find you. Do you have a minute?" Leandra had said and asked, stopping Zayne in his tracks. Then she looked up at him pleadingly.
She was hanging around the garden where she would have a clear view of him when he came out of the training grounds.
She knew he had a big meeting going on, and Leandra needed to talk to Zayne.
She also knew by now word would get around that her parents had left during the burning, and she wanted to let him know, as she did not have the opportunity to last night in the middle of their passionate lovemaking.
Leandra saw a future that she could possibly have with Zayne; the way he took her last night was everything, and yet nothing at the same time.
Because she did notice how he f*cked her like a wh*re, which she loved, but she thought there would be some really intimate moments between them, and there were none.
Then their night of passion was interrupted when they found that lady. She did not get to spend the rest of the night with him as she wanted.
Leandra knew what it was for Zayne, but she would play it cool, of course, and not come off desperate like you know who and rush the man every chance she gets.
No, she would get closer to him and connect on an emotional level.
Nevertheless, she wanted him to hear about her parents from her, but she missed him before the meeting.
"Leandra, hey, yea, sure. What for? Zayne responded. He had stopped walking at the sound of Leandra's voice. He watched her intently, curious to hear what she wanted to say.
Because he also wanted to have a few words while clarifying some things.
"My parents left last night," Leandra did not hesitate. She might as well get it out quickly.
"I know. Did you know your parents were leaving? Zayne wanted to see if she'd planned to distract him last night when they slipped away. He tilted his head sideways, narrowed his eyes, and watched her.
Though Zayne could not understand her motive for that, he needed to be sure.
Wide-eyed, Leandra was surprised by his accusatory tone. However, she quickly recovered and answered, "Yes, I knew, and I ran away, climbing down my bedroom window to get to the burning last night."
Leandra did not like how Zayne was in his Alpha mode right now, but she complied. It was a valid question. Plus, she would always have respect for him.
Zayne continued to watch Leandra as she explained herself. He did not like being taken for a fool, so he scooped up every drop of words she spilled. Although he did not mean to sound so accusing with his question.
"I did it because I did not want to leave with them. So when my father let me go to my room to pack my bags, I escaped. I am tired, Zayne!"
She says as her eyes slide across every inch of his handsome features, her eyebrows furrowed slightly, observing his stern yet unreadable look.
"I no longer want to be a bargaining chip for his schemes, I never did, but I feel safe here with you." Leandra's hands were itching to reach out and touch some part of him. Any part.
But she continued, eyes locked on him, "My father would soon get us all killed, and I would not apologize for wanting to live." Leandra finished, wondering if she had done something wrong, as his eyebrows were still creased and his eyes narrowed. On her!
And she felt the need to keep talking, "I did not want to leave, and I still don't want to go, plain and simple." She had said it, however, in a softer voice, almost a whisper.
Nevertheless, he believed her. Zayne, with his dream in mind and suddenly thinking he was a seer, taking all she had said into the mix, began thinking of inviting Leandra for a run to see if she was indeed a white wolf.
Still, when you add her father to those thoughts, he immediately sees how farfetched that idea was.
No way would Alpha Dartwood let his daughter out of his sight, or actually, with a father like that, she would have been destroyed by now, claimed, or worse, and her parents dead.
Nevertheless, Zayne was thankful that after his chat with Leandra about her current situation with her parents, he addressed their night of frolic.
Zayne took his time explaining that he had a great time. It was a welcome night of fun and letting loose for him, but that's all it was.
Things would not go any further between them.
Especially now that she would be staying in his community, Zayne had smiled at his reasoning. Leandra had a safe haven here as long as she wanted to stay and would be free to leave when she found her mate or was simply ready to go.
But it was mainly that, for Zayne, it was indeed a night of pleasure for him, a night he had not enjoyed in months going on a year.
And he certainly was not looking to make this a regular thing. However, he could admit to feeling attracted to Leandra as he recalled feeling a certain displeasure at her eyeing another unmated wolf.
Now, as the days and weeks passed, the white wolf consumed his thoughts.
Nevertheless, Leandra had held her corner, they still chatted all the time, and it was still so easy to talk to her, and she was not coming on to him, and Zayne really enjoyed that and their conversations.
Zayne was skeptical and had wondered if she was the clingy type, but she'd surprised him.
Apparently, she was on the same page. In Leandra's case, she had said it was just a one-time fun time for her, and Zayne was relieved.
Leandra lied! But they never brought it up again. She was here to stay. As far as Leandra was concerned, she had all the time in the world. Slow and steady wins the race, she had whispered.
Then, after his encounter with Leandra a few days later, he wondered, when he removed the white wolf from the mix, maybe Leandra needed his help.
Perhaps that was all the dream meant, someone needed his help, or it could be the Jane Doe in the hospital he had then thought of when he removed the white wolf.
Because Jane Doe was no wolf, she had the essence of a witch...
