Alpha Zayne Steele
Nevertheless, Alpha Zayne did not stress too much about them needing his protection anymore. For a brief moment, he did not even worry about the dream anymore, as he had ensured Leandra was safe within his community and that Jane Doe was well taken care of…
And they both were.
Jane Doe, however, was still in a coma. The Doctor said all her physical injuries, scrapes, fractures, and bruises were healed by now. Her vitals were great, her heart rate perfect, and all her other checks were excellent results.
And so Dr. Durance did not understand why Jane was not waking up because she was no longer connected to anything. She was breathing on her own.
He simply could not fathom why Jane would not open her eyes. "It is like she is in a deep sleep because she was not showing signs that a comatose patient would show."
Zayne had lifted an eyebrow in question, eyes slightly dimmed.
"For example, her pupils responded to light, whereas a comatose patient would not. Here let me show you." Dr. Durance said while he had shuffled closer to a deep-sleeping Jane Doe, he quickly put on a pair of latex gloves and pulled out a tiny flashlight from his laboratory coat.
Then he gently opened one eye and flashed the light, moving about his wrist. Zayne saw movements. Dr. Durance was right. "See, look at the movement there." Dr. Durance had said, then gently did the other side.
"Also, there are no responses of limbs except for reflex movements for comatose patients. However, I have seen Jane moved plenty of times to realize those aren't simply reflex movements."
Dr. Durance spoke while he switched off the flashlight and stored it in his coat pocket.
"Anything else," Zayne was curious about these results and wanted to know everything.
Quickly looking up as if to find the answers up on the ceiling, Dr. Durance spoke, "Well, let's see here. The brainstem reflexes weren't depressed. A comatose patient's brainstem will be depressed, and limbs will also be under that umbrella."
"Let me show you another type of movement," and Dr. Durance proceeded to show him the next function that was not depressed.
"Now, this would be painful stimuli to get a response," Dr. Durance had said as Zayne watched intently.
Dr. Durance pinched her thigh, and he got zapped, and a slight soft groan left Jane's suddenly slightly parted lips that slowly closed. The magic was weak, but it was there, still weakly defending its host.
And the host sounded even weaker, drained even.
Then he said, "See that, with a comatose patient, there is no response to painful stimuli except for reflex movements.
"And as I had mentioned, she is breathing on her own," Dr. Durance had wrapped things up.
Zayne had stood there and thought of finding out who she was in order to locate her family, but as the investigation was on the way, he had stopped in the middle of it when he wondered if she was in danger and running from someone.
What if he led that someone straight to her doorstep, unknowingly? He and Jovi had paused the investigation. But they did not get rid of anything, only waiting until he could talk to Jane Doe and better understand her situation before making any moves.
Then, when it was all said and done, Zayne still could not get the white wolf out of his head.
Maybe it was just that, a dream, and it meant nothing, and he was making a big deal for nothing. Between Leandra and Jane Doe, he was lost as to the connection.
What he should really be doing is focusing on the million more important things he has to do than stress over a white wolf he never met or ever actually seen before in his life.
But that was before the dream started recurring a few days later.
Still, on that same Friday, Zayne had felt like his week ended on a positive note, given their week, the mission, the losses, the attack that caused more losses, the burial, and the military showing up.
It was a tough week for Zayne; however, the meeting he had gone to that Friday afternoon, the one suggested by his father, had turned the tables.
Things started looking up for Alpha Zayne.
The morning after he found Jane Doe, he had gotten rest, and when he woke up, the next item on his agenda was the meeting with his Elite Warriors.
He asked them to present their ideas and plans for a way forward.
During the meeting in the situation room, Zayne greeted everyone and immediately opened the floor to hear from his men, "I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas, if there is anything that you believe we should be doing that would help our cause, please, let's hear it, the floor is open."
They had jumped right in, and Zayne was proud of the group of men he had by his side in this fight.
The first topic was recruits and the fact that they needed more men to stand with them.
"What about sending scouts to neighboring communities to recruit more able-bodied men for our cause?" A warrior by the name of Ancil had spoken up.
"Excellent idea Ancil," Zayne knew this was an essential topic on the agenda today as they desperately needed men for this war.
"Who would like to volunteer for the recruitment team?" Zayne asked. When Ancill, Patrick, along with thirteen others volunteered.
"Excellent! Sacha, would you start taking down the information as we proceed? List each task and the members that volunteered," Alpha Zayne spoke, then explained the aim.
Their goal was to enlighten the communities of the threat they all face, including the hits thus far dating back to ten years ago and counting.
Also, it would only be a matter of time before this entity bulldozed its way into their communities and wreaked havoc.
Alpha Zayne also wanted them to inform the recruits that they had been attacked and that the military had paid them a visit the next day. He knew it was not wise. However, he was not going to be shady.
He wanted the recruits to know precisely what they were getting themselves into. It would save him a lot of headaches down the line.
Ancil wanted to contact the different communities beforehand and let them know they would be visiting.
However, Patrick, another member who had volunteered for the scouting team, said, "Why should we, though? Alpha Zayne had already called the Alpha's of these communities and warned them over the phone."
Patrick sat up in his chair now that all eyes were on him, "and most hung up on him. I say we drop in and request a meeting with the community." He eyed everyone, index finger pointing downward. He touched the table at 'drop-in.'
"Though we may be gone for days at a time, these Alphas are not taking heed, and we may need to reach the people directly if that fails."
Zayne was listening to both of them, and they both had valid points. However, per his father's advice, he had a better idea: 'Those untouched by this were sitting pretty,' they needed to start with the affected communities.
Those affected would be more inclined to join their cause and fight back, whether it was for revenge or wanting to do what's right.
Zayne agreed with Patrick that these Alphas had hung up, so what made us think they would willingly allow us to speak to their communities? However, as Patrick hinted, Zayne disagreed with recruiting behind the Alpha's back.
That is not how he does things. Well, something as big as this, it's like he was taking people from the community because they would be coming here to Ragnuff Crescent Moon Community for training and would be accommodated for as long as this goes on.
So at this magnitude, he would need to go through the proper channels, plus he was not looking to start an uproar in any communities when concerned citizens began wondering why this was the first time hearing of it.
Zayne had advised the team that they would call each of them up and inform the Alpha of the situation and what they were about and that they wanted to bring down these bastards.
Also, inform them that they would speak to the people and enlighten them if the Alpha did not wish to do so, "we offer," Zayne had said.
Alpha Zayne knew most of the communities hit were in shambles. Most may have left, some were probably just catching themselves, and he thought that they might not have the zeal if they had lost all hope, but what Alpha Zayne hoped to do for those Alphas was to bring them hope.
At least they would know that someone was actively fighting against the injustice.
