Praise for his efforts!
Nevertheless, the more Aubrianne racked her brain, the farther away the detail seemed to slip away. She needed to bring this to everyone's attention; maybe she was missing something.
"I feel like we should have known something was off; I feel like the names Nurse Sheila Brown and Dr. Nathan White meant something."
Jada was also shocked at what had just happened. It took her back to when her community was attacked by creatures; she was younger, in her early teens.
That was when she lost her father to that attack, and the witch community was wiped out.
That was the last time she used that much magic to defend herself and her loved ones. Yes, Jada had her personal reasons for wanting to join Zayne in his fight; that entity was responsible for the death of her father.
He died protecting his family, and when he died, it was her turn to do so as her mother was wrecked at losing her mate.
So even though it was also in the back of Jada's mind, more so to the tip of her tongue, sadly, she was not focused enough on that, still reeling from her fighting in that parkade.
Jada was just happy they made it out and wondered what the hell all that was about. And as she replayed the conversation in the Doctor's office, one thing was clear.
They wanted to get Aubrianne alone in the room, but she had objected profusely. Jada's lips could not help but twitch, wanting to smile at her girl's instinct.
But why? And what does Dr. Nathan White have to do with it? Why was he eager to get Aubrianne alone? She clearly gave consent for them to be there.
Something was not right here, yet she still could not place it.
None of them at the moment could even remember the list of names that Alpha Zayne provided the first night they had the meeting after the Ball. Or else they would never have even gone to that office.
And instead, mount a trap for him...
But sadly, none of them could recall, each for very different reasons. That night, Jada was caught up with Ivan, and Daniel was not even there, and worse yet, Aubrianne was strung out on her mate.
So we can count her out.
"How did you find us?" Aubrianne eventually asked, giving up on figuring out what she was missing.
"I sensed your anger screaming at me through the mind connection with a flurry of other emotions. One was worry. And I already knew of your Doctor's appointment. When I could not get on to the rest of the team."
"I knew something was off and checked here first. But as soon as I was in proximity, I knew you were here." Daniel explained as he high-tailed it back to the manor.
Back to the safety its walls can provide at this time.
"Thanks, Daniel," Aubrianne spoke, her tone meaningful, not wanting to think how they would have made it out of there.
Now back at the manor, the alarm was already sounded, Daniel had made the call, and they were expected.
A room was prepared in the manor for the others to recuperate. They inserted medication to counteract the Peakash.
While Aubrianne, Jada, and Daniel filled her father and Ivan in, along with more members of Theo's security. And soon, they realized precisely who this Dr. White and Nurse Brown were.
And they were not only Aubrianne Dr. and Nurse back in Clifton Hill.
They were on Alpha Zayne's list of suspects.
They also realized they could have set a trap and captured him; they were all pissed at the missed opportunity. Aubrianne more so.
She felt horrible for missing this, for being so lost in her and Zayne's world that she missed some vital information that night. If she had, this would have been over, she naively thought.
Aubrianne further beat herself up, realizing she would have ended her mate's struggle in one morning.
She was devastated and reeling on the inside. Her heart hurt immensely at her dropping the ball.
While Theo was thankful, his daughter was ok. But now he knew exactly who he was dealing with and how to find him.
Theo confirmed it was indeed the Whites he thought he knew; he knew his mother very well; she had a seat at the table of the white house.
Constantly pushing an agenda for justice that the werewolves must be held accountable for their actions.
Though Theo agreed with what she was suggesting, the ways she wanted to accomplish this were preposterous. There were many ways to handle this without involving the public.
The human population should not be brought into this. The more oblivious they are, the better for them.
And what they were facing was proof enough, as the few that knew of them were already hunting them. They were humans, even Nadira White.
But maybe that was precisely what Nadira wanted.
Theo kept the finer details to himself, the fact that he already knew exactly where to look, but he had immediately sent a team to scout the building.
But as suspected, they were already gone; even the doctor's office was cleaned out. But it looked as if they had left in a hurry; there was still paperwork and scruffles left all over the place, and it almost looked trashed.
Soon enough, Shawn stirred in the room with the others, and he rose up instantly and spoke the same thing Theo figured out.
"I knew that name rang a bell, and it was not from the time we were at the hospital, back in Clifton Hill. Yes, that too, but both Dr. Nathan White and Nurse Sheila Brown were on Alpha Zayne's list."
Shawn spoke slightly croaky, wanting to get it out all at once while struggling to breathe under the lingering Peakash.
However, looking around, he realized everyone was still out, including his mate, Aubrianne, and Jada, nowhere in sight. But he could tell they were all safely back at the manor.
Shawn leaped off the bed, staggering under the effects of the Peakash.
He made it over to Kirrah on the next bed and caressed her face tenderly, "Kirrah? Baby, honey, wake up." He cooed and peppered hurried kisses on her forehead.
He slipped onto the bed and wrapped her in his arms, offering her his comfort and strength through the bond.
At the same time, Aubrianne and Jada came in to check on them and inform them of the same. And Danel soon joined them.
They spoke about the next move, which was basically keeping Aubrianne under heavy protection, but she did not want to cancel or reschedule her trip.
So they had arranged for two additional teams to join them, along with the first team her father assigned to make the trip.
Soon Aubrianne had pulled Daniel to the side and thanked him for coming to get them out of there; plus, "Daniel, I believe it goes without saying, but I will still say it." Aubrianne looked Daniel in his eyes earnestly.
"Whatever this was," Aubrianne gestured between them.
"Is over, I have met my mate, and honestly, Daniel, I have never been happier." She sighed in contentment and leaned in, hugging him as she thanked him again for earlier, but it was time for her to head to the airport and attempt to contact her baby.
Daniel had felt smug as he was the one that saved Aubrianne; where was her mighty mate, huh? He basked in the praise for his efforts Alpha Thornton had lavished him with, along with his father.
But all Aubrianne had done was thank him, make it clear it was over, and rush off to call her mate.
Daniel's heart hurt, and his chest felt like it would burst open. He felt like his chest would literally combust. He could not bear the pain of her loss, which moved through him, viciously attacking him on the inside.
He recalled Aubrianne and Zayne, and he knew it. At that moment, Daniel knew it was over. Whatever 'this' was, it was over.
But he still needed to hear the words from her lips, her sweet and tasty luscious lips.
