Something Miraculous
Even though Alpha Zayne admitted, they could have set a tracker on him. But as far as he was concerned, that would be a breeze now, knowing exactly who it was.
Because Jovi did come up with some other doctor's names for them to look into, now he can pool all his resources and focus on one with this confirmation - the Whites.
And he could also admit that had they recognized this, his mate would not be in that position today.
"I am happy that you are alright, baby; however, please note and understand that getting to Dr. White was just scratching the surface with his mother out there."
"However, I do agree that if it was known, then I know you would not have gone to that appointment, or even if you did, you would have been more prepared." Zayne finished.
"But babe," Aubrianne wanted to insist.
Zayne refused to let his mate beat herself up about this, "No, babe, no buts, I am just happy that you are alright; get your powers unbound, and we will face them together, stopping them once and for all."
Aubrianne sighed; how could she not appreciate her mate? Here she was, worried about dropping the ball, and there he was, reassuring and comforting her.
But she did not want to be pampered nor let off the hook, still insisting something could have been done. And after she relayed this, Zayne responded with, "But, it is nothing that we cannot do together."
Zayne was still trying to let her off the hook, which she was still refusing to be let off of, till she admitted her real issue.
As Aubrianne knew deep down, if that night of the meeting were to happen again, she would be lost in her mate the same way, missing the same information.
She could beat herself up about missing vital information, but that would not do any good, "Baby, I am worried. These people have a weapon that can kill our kind. You."
She knew Zayne had been interfering with these people's outposts. The thought that she could have lost him and never experienced meeting him, or the chance of that happening now, left her feeling troubled to her core for some reason.
Those bullets were deadly.
Aubrianne whimpered, and only then did Zayne truly understand where she was coming from, thinking that had she acted, this could have been over, and HE would have been safe from the bullets.
He clearly understood her train of thought and said, "Here's what, a tracking device is in the works of being placed. Don't worry, baby. My men are on it."
"We would track his movements steadily and gather intel, then we would attack. Soon, we would be free to live our lives because we would ensure those weapons and any traces of them were destroyed after they were taken out."
"Ok, babe." Aubrianne sighed, her eyes tightly shut.
Opening them, "I am unbinding my powers in the morning and starting training. I see now more than ever the need to ensure I am capable in this fight." Aubrianne still felt like more could have been done, but she sighed and yielded.
"Oh, that's nice, and I would love for you to gain the knowledge and training you need." But that did not stop him from wishing that time would suddenly be in a rush and fly.
"Yea, I am thinking of getting a lot done this week with Martha."
"And I am hoping this week flies for me, but things have been keeping me busy on these ends," Zayne spoke openly. It came naturally, but he was never this candid or free with his thoughts and emotions.
Even Mekhi has a hard time getting things out of him.
"How are you doing, baby?" Aubrianne asked, a bit hesitant, knowing it was a stupid question. He lost almost his entire community. How else would he be doing?
Zayne sighed but was honest when he said, "I have not had time to feel anything, as my people need me. They need their strong Alpha to reassure them he has a plan moving forward."
"That was their main concern if their Alpha would seek justice. My right hand is down, and he will be down for the next few days till his wolf healing runs its course."
Zayne even explained exactly what happened...
***Flashback***
The enemy came at three am in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Swift and lethal, taking no prisoners.
Firstly, men with guns loaded with those deadly bullets took out all the guards on patrol. It was as if they knew precisely where the patrols were situated.
And this had led Alpha Zayne to believe they somehow had inside knowledge of what goes on in the community, and he could not help but wonder if sleaze balls, Alpha Dartwood, had something to do with it.
Nevertheless, once the surrounding guards were removed from the equation, they moved in, going from home to home, killing without remorse. As all it took was one bullet.
Then they made it to the community house, and an alarm was raised only then. At that point, almost two-thirds of the community was already wiped out.
However, his elites stepped in and fought them.
Zayne was thankful when those seemingly impressive creatures also chose to fight because he was sure Mekhi would have been dead had they selected the bullet route.
It was as if they were testing their skills and quickly adapting to the elite's moves.
Nevertheless, with the alarm raised, his men were able to rally and protect the remaining community members, giving their all.
***End of Flashback***
Alpha Zayne was spent, and now his community was just like the others that had been attacked and almost wiped out. He was hurting deeply as he wanted to end them before they reached that point.
His emotions became shut, too much lost all at once. He and Aragorn grieved immensely. And the lingering scent of his mate is what kept him steady the moment he arrived in this gloom.
Else they would have lost it. Zayne did not have the luxury of losing it, not now. So he held on to her comfort, and now hearing her voice was soothing his weary soul.
That night Zayne and Aubrianne had talked for hours, and she knew she needed a rest to get started at five am, which by now was only two hours away.
They begrudgingly said goodbye, and Aubrianne fell asleep. Zayne ended the call only when he heard her light and steady breathing.
He also needed to get some rest.
It was now Thursday morning for Aubrianne. After her arrival on Monday night, her Tuesday morning training was a bust, but at least Martha was able to unbind her powers.
Aubrianne had got up, brushed her teeth, changed into her training gear, wrapped her hair up in a messy bun, and went out to look for Martha.
She had left Jada sleeping soundly and did not want to wake her, so she decided to find her way on her own.
Nevertheless, Martha was already in the kitchen with a big breakfast at hand for Aubrianne in preparation for their day of heavy training ahead, and learning how to use one's magic the right way could be taxing.
It can drain one completely.
Aubrianne enjoyed her breakfast with Martha as she listened to some of Martha's stories about her mom. She welcomed it.
And she had discussed what happened the day she found the box in detail again for Martha. She had already explained last night at dinner, but it seemed like Martha was bugged by something.
Nevertheless, Aubrianne relayed the tale once more.
Martha's eyes glanced up in deep thought, her knife and fork unmoving in her hands, then she finally spoke again when her gaze fell back on Aubrianne.
"Huh...that's strange because I knew your mother very well, and she would have done everything she could to ensure that the spell worked, unbinding your powers."
She sliced through some pancakes, "All of your powers, how it was meant to... Athalia was never one to do something halfway or haphazardly,"
Martha spoke, recalling her desperate conversation with Athalia when Aubrianne was only two months old.
She knew her friend, and there was no way she would do a spell that would not carry out its entire purpose unless...
Then she responded after racking her brains and going back and forth for ten whole minutes while Aubrianne swallowed her breakfast and stared at Martha curiously.
Martha had stared off at nothing in particular, but by the end, it was as if seeing something miraculous or unbelievable.
