Truth of the Situation

Nevertheless, Zayne was thankful that his plans at that meeting he held with his team also yielded results for him.

Even the higher-ups that Colonel De Four came through with concerning the critical players involved that were a part of the military.

With the means to bug, they had started visiting each of them. Bugging their homes and person. Even the one that gave the order to visit Zayne's community.

Some instances proved challenging as there was more security at the homes of some of these higher-ups. However, with Carlita's help, they made waves.

They had even found out that Sheila had never shown up at the Buccoo Valley Memorial Hospital, but in the end, they had already found out that she was with Dr. Nathan White when he had an appointment with Aubrianne.

Sunday passed quietly. The only activity was Mekhi insisting he meet with Mira to get the flash drive. Mekhi and Zayne had made the trip, and the USB yielded results just as suspected.

And so the surveillance of the ins and outs of these places began. The teams at each location would look for the busiest times, the quietest times when there was less traffic, etc.

Plus, they had access to their surveillance feeds, so what they missed in person they picked up on camera, and vice versa for those blind spots of these feeds.

Nevertheless, back to the present...

Meanwhile, everybody else alighted the vehicle, and Rafael, already knowing everyone, did the introductions when suddenly Mekhi started sniffing almost vigorously.

His nose flared with the force of his breath intake, his eyebrows pinched, and his eyes dimmed curiously.

All these people here had a faint scent of something most delectable, most mouthwatering.

Suddenly, Sampson, Mekhi's wolf, was on the surface. His eyes glowed golden. 'MATE.'

Sampson had limited contact with Mekhi since Mekhi decided that he was looking into dating and mating. They have fought for years over Mekhi's obsession with Sacha, and with Mekhi's latest decision, Sampson had backed away.

He wanted no other than HIS mate.

At Sampson's one-word declaration, Mekhi subtly sniffed the ones Rafael introduced them to. But these were primarily male guards and one female. However, a light, subtle breeze just had to blow, and his head snapped toward Aubrianne in Zayne's arms.

Mekhi took off in his crotches, hopping his way over to Zayne and his mate, who had yet to come up for air.

He sniffed around them, and he confirmed it, 'MATE.' Sampson growled lowly and audibly this time. And yet Zayne and Aubrianne...lost..

Sampson was smart enough to know, even with his luna's alluring vibes, that he could not deny she was not his mate, but whoever his mate was, he was confident his luna knew her very well as she was drowning in the most scrumptious scent he'd have yet to taste.

He was sorry to interrupt the couple on reaching them, but he needed to know whether his mate was there. And if not, where was she?

Mekhi was losing his mind trying to locate the source of the scent. He craned his neck, looked into the vehicles, and saw they were all empty, and he'd met everyone except his Luna.

Ok, he cleared his throat. "Excuse me, Luna? By chance, could you tell me who you'd been in contact with?" Then Mekhi chuckled nervously to himself.

She did not smell as if she'd simply been in contact with this person. She smelled as if they had been hugging for a while. Mekhi's mind was already racing with thoughts about who it could be.

And at the same time, he could not fathom what was happening. He was thrilled to learn of his Alpha finding his mate.

However, he never imagined that it would be possible for HIM two days later and that he would actually have the chance to meet his.

Mekhi had purposed to end this entity and travel when it was all over, hoping to find his mate.

Not once in his planning and reflections about life after his near-death experience had he thought she would find him.

As a matter of fact, he was busy trying to move on from Sacha when Zayne told him about Aubrianne's feisty best friend.

He had joked about getting to know her and even asked if she was single and beautiful, thinking she might just be the one to help him move on from Sacha once and for all.

Zayne had said, by the looks of it, she was in a situation with Mr. Thornton's Beta, the guy who had arranged everything for them, but he could not be one hundred percent sure of it. It was merely a vibe he'd picked up.

But the truth of the matter was assaulting Mekhi's senses, and Sampson said 'MATE.' again in Mekhi's head.

And suddenly, it was like a resounding alarm went off in his head, alerting him of what he had just thought of. 'Aubrianne's best friend.' The scent that she was drowning in must be her best friend.

Meanwhile, Zayne and Aubrianne were still lost in each other.

Mekhi smiled nervously again, looked around, and caught Rafael's gaze, and he held his hand up in surrender as if to say don't look to me to interrupt them.

This is on you.

Mekhi sighed and spoke next to the pair, "As a matter of fact, her scent is very potent on you, so I would not say who you were in contact with, but more so who..." Mekhi sniffed again. It was like this person rubbed themselves on his Luna.

But Goddess, he needed to sniff. The scent soothes his soul.

While Rafael continued watching them, a knowing smile on his lips, and then suddenly, his face turned to horror as Mekhi's actions really sunk in. 'Oh nooooooooooooooooo.'

However, Aubrianne nor Zayne heard nor acknowledged Mekhi. Still lost in their world of kisses, moans, and hushed whispers of missing each other so much.

Five minutes later, they finally pulled away for much-needed air, staring intensely into each other's eyes. Aubrianne was still hooked onto Zayne like a Koala, their chest rising and falling at their quick, rushed air intake and exhaling.

A whirlwind of emotions of want, need, and desire encircled them,

gripping them in its clutches.

Mekhi breathed a sigh of relief, waiting to be acknowledged. After all, he was standing right there.

Then the couple were about to lock lips again, inching closer and closer, when Mekhi shouted to get them to snap out of it.

"LUNA, ALPHA, A WORD PLEASE," At please and the desperation in Mekhi's voice registering with Zayne, he finally looked at his best friend standing flustered by the side of him.

Sampson, at the surface, the look on Mekhi's face intense, eyes sparkling with something. Zayne's features turned curious, but his arms held Aubrianne possessively. As if declaring MINE.

Knowing unmated wolves have been reacting to his mate hungrily, even mated wolves struggle under her mysterious appeal.

While Aubrianne's cheeks tinted red, realizing that they were carrying on as if they weren't in the presence of an audience.

Seeing his Alpha response, Mekhi rolled his eyes, looked at Aubrianne, and said, "Luna, I am Mekhi, Zayne's Beta, and so nice to meet you. NOW PLEASSEE TELL ME who you were in contact with, who hugged you?"

Mekhi's nose dipped closer to his Luna, and he sniffed. His eyes twinkled, and understanding dawned on both Aubrianne and Zayne.

"Who hugged you? Besides your amazing scent, there is another that is very strong. My wolf said that person is my mate." Mekhi got it all out, refusing to give those two the chance to get lost again.

They had plenty of time for that. This was an emergency for Mekhi.

Aubrianne and Zayne shared a look as what Mekhi said sunk in. The look between them was that they both knew of something between Jada and Ivan.

However, Aubrianne's surprise and shock were apparent. Then she laid her head on Zayne's upper chest as her mind raced.

'Sh!t, sh!t, sh!t, sh!t, sh!t, what was she to say? Where could Jada be? Could she pull off her famous lying technique by only giving pieces of the truth?'

'Did she want to lie to him? He was her mate's Beta, and she was soon to be his Luna. Should she start things off with a lie? Goodness, Jada would kill her. She needed to speak to Jada first. Plus, how would she react to having her mate?'

Aubrianne's eyes slid to an eager and expectant Mekhi, and Aubrianne's heart sank a bit, only because she knew her friend might crush his heart, and if not that, then the truth of the situation would.

Nevertheless, she was excited that she and her best friend were mates with best friends. How ridiculous was this?

Aubrianne moved to jump off Zayne. However, he held her tightly, preventing her legs from moving.
