***BOOM***
Unshed tears swelled in Aubrianne's eyes as she rapidly blinked them away, sniffled, and rubbed her itchy nose with the back of her hand. Goddess, her mom was dead and has been for a long time.
She thought she was over this.
But the dam burst. Aubrianne couldn't hold it back because this dream had felt so real.
Martha burst through the room just as Leia shouted to ease her humans' dismay, 'We must get back to Mother Aubrianne. Snap out of it….'
Aubrianne jumped up off the bed as if it was suddenly set ablaze. It was almost like a complete leap, the same way her heart leaped out of her chest, escaping its restraints in utter joy and confusion at that moment, still slightly groggy from her nap and grappling with reality.
'You fainted silly,' Leia teased.
"Oh Goddess, it was not a dream; is my mother alive?" she questioned carefully as if articulating to two-year-olds.
After staring wide-eyed at Martha, who was slowly shaking her head up and down in confirmation. While Leia also confirmed again in slower words this time.
Goddess, her mother, was ALIVE and so close to where she was all that time. Oh, Goddess, her mother was there through her Luna Ceremony. As she curiously wondered how close her mother was.
Was she in the Ragnuff Crescent Moon Community? Right under her nose all this time. Nevertheless, she would follow the map leading to the location. Maybe she was that close.
Then, as if it hit her like a Mack truck, Aubrianne shouted, "I must get back now."
"Indeed she is alive, Aubrianne," A beaming Martha spoke, "But it is late. Do you think it would be best to go in the morning instead?"
A frantic, over, excited Aubrianne looked around for the clock on the wall; it said 9pm, and to her, it was not too late to travel.
Aubrianne instantly stated her case and did not back down on her decision. Both she and Leia were eager to get back. She would not be convinced otherwise.
She then contacted Shawn with the new plans, despite Martha's caution, in which Aubrianne admitted she could not stay here for another minute, knowing her mother was there in Ragnuff; she would not be able to even get a wink of sleep.
And it would not be the same with a phone call. NO, Aubrianne needed to see her mother face to face.
Aubrianne's entire body vibrated with anticipation; this was too surreal, and she could not wait.
She went on to explain to Shawn that they were to pack up and leave immediately. "Come get me now." She screamed excitedly.
But she contained her reasoning.
On the car ride to the Airport, she would call Zayne to inform him and maybe hear her mom's voice; boy, does she have questions for her Mate and mother.
Then, she would contact her dad. Aubrianne selfishly wanted to get to her mom first. If Theo had known, he might have been on his jet that instant, flying straight to Ragnuff.
Nevertheless, while she waited for Shawn and the teams to arrive, her mind reeled with what she would say; all her questions could be answered.
This was big, unbelievable, and deep down, she needed to see with her own two eyes. Touch her mother with her fingers, feel that motherly and loving warmth emanating from her like it used to.
Twenty minutes later, the teams were pulled up by Martha. However, an uneasiness settled over Martha, and despite her protest to Aubrianne, nothing could keep her away from going to her mother.
Martha begrudgingly relented but cautioned Aubrianne to be careful and alert.
Leia suddenly felt a gush of anxiety mixed in with an eerie feeling. She did not like it. Maybe her emotions were just all over the place in anticipation of meeting her mom.
For Leia, it was the mom that suppressed her. So there were some things to unpack there, so in the end, she chalked it up to her crazy, out-of-hand emotions and eagerness to meet her mom for the first time.
Meanwhile, Aubrianne quickly got in, and it was the same as when they arrived, her vehicle in the middle with Kirrah, Shawn, three others, and so on.
She could not wait to return to the love of her life and, more importantly, see her mother with her own eyes if it was really her. Aubrianne may even pinch her in the process.
As they embark on their journey to the Airport, looking out the window while the breeze blows her hair, an excited and overjoyed Aubrianne's mind reeled again.
If one were looking at her, one would think she was simply taking in the serene sights. It is pretty beautiful out with the gorgeous moonlit sky.
Aubrianne could not believe this was happening. How could this be possible?
Her heart raced, wishing the vehicle could go faster, but they were already speeding down the highway.
After a few moments of basking in her thoughts, Aubriane's mind filtered to her Mate.
She pulls out her phone to call Zayne.
However, it rang in her hand. It was Zayne, and she answered, sliding her hand across the screen and holding it to her ear.
Meanwhile, that eerie feeling of dread mixed with worry and anticipation was back and consuming Leia.
'Something is wrong.' was all Leia said, and she was very alert.
Aubrianne shook it off; it's not that she was not worried about possible danger; there were people after her, after all.
But this trip was spontaneous; no way could any threat be that serious. Plus, she was over the moon to share this news with Zayne. "Babe? I was just about to call you."...
Ten minutes earlier, Jovi was going about his regular routine but suddenly became alert in the surveillance room when chatter started coming in about an attack.
The details were scattered, but the attack was going down in Wickersville, and that word came through loud and clear.
They only heard Dr. Nathan White's side of the conversation, where he was responding to a call he received.
But as they listened to the chatter, they realized from Nathan's rantings that he was only just finding out about the attack and was not a part of it.
Nathan yelled, "Keep tabs on them. I need to learn where Aubrianne will be taken."
Jovi realized that Aubrianne was about to be kidnapped, and it was by someone who was not on their radar as far as they knew.
And Jovi, knowing where Aubrianne was, mind-linked Alpha Zayne frantically.
They're gonna attack, they gonna attack. Where is Aubrianne? Get her on the phone.' Jovi shouted, his tone panicked, which made Zayne jump into action instantly.
Jovi continued to explain, and at the time, Zayne was in his office with Mekhi, having one of their chats about life. Mainly, Zayne berating Mekhi for Jada leaving and him sulking.
They had even heard the news from the Doctor later that day that Jane Doe was awake and asking for Aubrianne, which he found strange. And indeed purposed to visit.
However, his day was spent, and he chose to relax; he did not know what this woman wanted with his Mate, but he would find out. Zayne would pop in on his way home.
Nevertheless, he pulled out his phone from his pants pocket and dialed Aubrianne when she answered on the second ring, "Thank Goddess baby, where are you? Tell me you are safe at Martha's?"
*BOOM* The vehicle in front of Aubrianne was taken out with no survivors. Another member had tried to reach them first via the phone. He was talking to them, advising of an impending threat and that they should be alert.
Then, when he realized they were on the move, he advised them to turn around and hunker down at Martha's. Her witch abilities could be an asset to them to keep them safe until backup arrives. But it was too late.
Meanwhile, another one of Jovi's assistants was already making flight arrangements and trying to call Alpha Thornton. His jet could come in handy, or their flight straight from here could get them there faster.
He could not decide, so did both simultaneously while another rounded up men for the trip. They were setting things in motion to get there with enough manpower to defuse the situation and get Aubrianne and the team back home safely.
Meanwhile, Aubrianne and Zayne's conversation. '
"Goddess Aubrianne, talk to me." Zayne frantically stated on the phone as he'd heard that loud explosion and the screeching of tires. He was in full panic mode, his free hand running through his hair.
Nevertheless, it caused the vehicle that Aubrianne traveled in to stop abruptly, and the phone fell from her hand and slid under the seat as she herself jerked forward...
