Finishing the Kill
The sound of tires screeching and the burnt scent of rubber filled their nostrils.
And for a moment, they suffered from the force and power that reverberated through the vehicle after the blowing up of the jeep in front of them.
Aubrianne's ears were ringing loudly and sharply. It grated on her soul.
"Zayne, we are under attack, Aubrianne screamed into the phone, not even hearing herself, as she clumsily and desperately tried to reach her lifeline, the phone connection to Zayne.
*BOOM* The car behind them was now a goner, taken out with no survivors.
More ringing in their ears, Aubrianne screamed towards the phone and informed Zayne the vehicle behind was now down.
More vibrations rippled through the air in the wake of the loud explosion…
The atmosphere was loud. You could hear the raging licks of fire stemming from the burnt vehicles that had ignited.
Screaming came from the jeep behind that quickly died.
The night then became suddenly still, and the air almost felt stagnant. Where was the moon, honestly? If not for their heightened ability, which seems to be waning, they would not be able to see a thing.
The light from the still-standing vehicle helped, but the smoke was thick around them right now.
The air filled with black smoke that blocked the vehicle Aubrianne was in and smelt of fumes mixed with gasoline, maybe some oil too, making it slightly difficult to breathe, but they could manage.
Soon, the cars were also going to blow on their own accord if the gas continued to rapidly leak and loose wires continued sparking.
Shawn, next to Aubrianne, tried his best to muster through the noise and shouted commands to the remaining five security men.
Aubrianne continued jerking her head around while simultaneously feeling for her phone, and she inspected her surroundings as she tried to block out the noises produced by the attack and spoke toward the phone, still hoping Zayne was hearing everything she was relaying.
Aubrianne then saw about thirteen armed and fully garbed men slowly approaching their vehicle as they made themselves visible, walking out from behind the burning car that was in front of Aubrianne and the others.
Aubrianne was getting so frustrated because she needed her mate. Truth be told, she and Leia were scared. Leia did not feel good about the outcome because she felt weak. Something was restricting her, but not the others.
As if made specifically for her, and that scared the sh!t out of Leia. Who else knew she was a white wolf?
This cannot be good, but she has kept that to herself for now.
"Everybody, stay calm. These men would not shoot aimlessly if they want Aubrianne; Aubrianne, you stay down." Shawn whispered and then motioned to the men to maintain eye contact.
While Aubrianne was busy giving Zayne the details, she was scared out of her mind. But she tried to be so focused on their surroundings, even with her ringing ear.
It was still like sharp feedback. This was different; Aubrianne did not hear a thing Zayne said, but luckily, Shawn, ever vigilant, was listening with his wolf hearing.
Zayne advised that they should head back to Martha's if they got out of there, but then the car behind them blew up. He then instructed that men were being rounded up.
Meanwhile, Jovi continued to listen to the chatter because Dr. Nathan White had called someone else.
They all tuned in to his rants, Jovi and two of his men, hoping to get a hint of the culprit who took Aubrianne.
Then Nathan finally said what they were waiting for with bated breath.
"How could my own mother do this to me, snake my prize away from me like that? MY PRIZE! SHE IS MINE!!!" Silence...then a long sigh, "What does she have planned?"
At Nathan's words, everyone went silent, including Alpha Zayne and Mekhi, who got there in time while still connected to Aubrianne.
Mrs. Nadera White is no simple woman. But he noticed how Nathan said his prize and that she was his. Zayne growled lowly.
They have Nadera under surveillance, and no one caught on to this.
Though the team can admit they did not have her tab as much as her son, they could not get as close to her as they did Nathan.
Alpha Zayne thought she was simply lucky or very cunning.
Now he was learning it to be the latter…
Back to Aubrianne….
They knew the moment they exited this vehicle all who weren't Aubrianne were dead. Shawn was sure this was Nathan's doing until Zayne told him they heard it from Nathan, but it was not him and that Nathan's team should also be arriving soon.
Shawn informed Kirrah of what Zayne said and told her to be prepared to get out of there as soon as they got the chance.
At this point, Shawn was oblivious that the culprit was already on their radar and that they had some struggles with this one. She was slick.
Kirrah stayed close to Aubrianne in the vehicle, and Shawn thought they could surely put a dent in the thirteen men and make their escape.
Maybe he and the men could distract the bad guys while Kirrah and Aubrianne escape, but he was drawing blanks on exactly how.
They were heavily outnumbered by that lethal and deadly weapon their enemy had at their disposal.
However, the enemy on the outside was waiting patiently for them to step out of the vehicle to kill them off, except for two.
As soon as Shawn and the two others shielded themselves and alighted the vehicle, shooting their way out, they were quickly shot at by deadly bullets.
Shawn was the only one who managed to quickly swerve away, maneuvering and dodging bullets, and made his way to the back of the vehicle, then got in a low position and took his shot while the other three that stayed in the jeep slipped out on Shawn's side armed and ready.
They used the vehicle as cover; now, it was a showdown; however, the other side refused to hit the vehicle.
It was now down to three guards; Aubrianne, Shawn, and Kirrah.
Aubrianne had looked up from trying to reach her phone when the gunshots happened and almost lost it when Shawn was nearly injured.
She was adamant about retrieving that phone to talk to her mate, hearing his voice and hoping he could talk her through this.
She wanted him, no, she needed her mate.
However, Aubrianne closed her eyes tightly and shook her head as she tried to shake off this fright and pulled herself together. She then lowered the backseat window and looked out defiantly.
Now, she and Leia were more present. 'We have to try,' Aubrianne said to Leia, and she agreed.
This was Shawn and Kirrah now, plus herself, and they needed to get away to safety.
Her body ignited in a beautiful hue of blue. Sadly, it was quickly fading.
But she did not let her worry and fright show.
Chin up, eyebrows pinched, eyes blazing gorgeous blue, she exudes bravery and confidence that she got this.
Anyone looking at her would say the same. Little did they know she was literally shaking on the insides, her stomach flipping.
Her dominance shined out of her, which only caused the other men to stumble slightly.
She quickly realized that a little show of stance took almost all her energy, strange. Were her powers glitching? She reeled that thought in immediately as she did not want to go spiraling.
Nevertheless, she was not stopping now. She continued when she said in her commanding tone.
"Stop, lower your weapons."
However, none of them made a move to do as she commanded.
At this point, Aubrianne thought it impossible.
Aubrianne repeated it, this time with more force mixed in with rage. And still, nothing happened.
She was flabbergasted and shocked; what was happening? Why were her powers failing her? At least the little that she knew to do.
However, Aubrianne preferred at this moment to stay in denial as she could not believe that she was targeted because she was a white wolf. Was it only her powers?
Meanwhile, Leia was trying to figure out who it could be.
Now bored and to prove a point, while wanting to drive it home that they were not affected, they release lethal bullets on the remaining security team except Shawn.
Unbeknownst to Shawn and the others, they had the drop on them from somewhere beyond the first burning vehicle.
Kirrah was also shot and did not have much more time, and apparently, another security guard had barely survived and was desperately gasping for what would be his last breath.
They took him out, too, finishing the kill.
