Sugar Daddy!
"Fine! Then all I ask is that Daniel take me to the airport." With that, in the heat of the moment, I imagined myself storming out the room in haste and making my way out of this house, heading home and aggressively packing my things and...
Yea, like I said, I imagined. Before I could have at least turned away from Mr. Grey Senior and taken a successful step to the door. He held onto my hand in a death grip.
In response, my eyes narrowed on his hand gripping my own, and I aggressively yanked my hand away.
My expression was very questioning and even more suspicious as I looked at him, eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed.
"What are...the words died in my throat. Mr. Grey looked like he was physically fighting with something and losing. He started to pale before my eyes.
My fierce demeanor and stance simmered into one of care and concern, "Are you alright?" Lawd father, did I give this man a heart attack?
"He will be back late tomorrow night, please…please Aubri.. don't go..Mr. Thornton will be back...I assure you it is no sugar daddy business…pleassee." He begged in his struggles.
Well, I am not sure if that made matters worse or not, but I was already calm in the wake of his distress and not wanting to give the man a heart attack. I almost screamed for Daniel when I saw how pale his dad looked.
But he did not even ask for help nor wanted help. Instead, he was busy begging ME not to go.
He looked like if I did, it would be his death, and yea, that confused me more than anything else. These people were weird.
I decided to reason, then asked, "OK, so you say it has nothing to do with any sugar daddy business, right? Answer me this. Do I have to pay for these items? Will it be deducted from my salary?"
Mr. Grey's expression quickly changed to one of confusion, "No! Absolutely not. There will be no deductions or anything like that. These are gifts."
ANNDD, we are right back where we started.
"OK, gifts, huh? Is it because I would have to do shady business for his clients? Doctoring their books that kind of stuff?" In the accounting world, a lot of shady business happens all the time, and if so, now I am leaving.
"It is just these 'gifts' in this day and age. I have yet to meet someone who offers gifts and expects nothing in return."
His eyes widened, and he dared to laugh, "Oh Aubrianne, your skepticism reminds me so much of HIM," I raised an eyebrow, and he said, "but maybe it is just an accountant thing, but no, dear, Mr. Thornton does not deal in shady business, you will learn of his work ethics soon enough."
OK, I ran it over in my mind. No shady business, no salary deductions, I won't have to pay for it, and it is not any sugar daddy business either. OK, it seems like my fears were for naught.
The thing is, I still did not know the 'why.' But once it was not any of those things, I could start to enjoy my digs.
Hopefully, gosh, I still need to know, but I am not going as crazy as I was before, as some things were cleared up.
And you know, when the more you think of something, the more questions you come up with, it started with one or two concerns, and now, I literally just rattled out about four for him. The more I thought about it, the more my mind would stray.
"OK, can you set up a meeting for the very next day, yip Thursday?" I asked, remembering he said Mr. Thornton would be back late tomorrow night, so the next day would be Thursday.
Mr. Grey visibly relaxed. Color started coming back to his face. He was no longer looking like he had a mini-stroke. Mr. Grey exhaled and walked back behind his desk, "one moment," he said as he grabbed what looked like a planner, then spoke again, "actually let me check his schedule for Thursday and put this in right away."
He scans the page, eyebrows scrunching together as he goes through the schedule for Thursday, "ahh, perfect, we can do lunch," he says.
"Perfect!" I was elated at finally having a definite time to work with after being sadly disappointed by not getting to know the why, but at this point, I still know more than I did yesterday.
A lot more, which is a good thing. My mind can be at ease and not think the worst.
"I will set up lunch for you and Mr. Thornton on Thursday at twelve noon. Daniel will come to get you and take you to him, and on that day, you can ask him all your questions."
"OK, thank you, Mr. Grey," I said, getting up. He did the same, hugged me goodbye, and then reassured me everything would be OK.
I made my way out the door. As I stepped out, Daniel was right there waiting for me. I didn't have to go far to look for him.
Daniel, looking at me, asks, "how was it?"
I am sure he already knew the answer to that— I am still without details. I told him Mr. Grey set up lunch with Mr. Thornton for Thursday at noon and that he would be the guy to pick me up and take me to him.
"Dad, we are leaving," Daniel informed his hot dad, and he led us out, "what are you up for today?"
As we made our way to the SUV, I turned and told him to take me to his sister because, right now, I could really go shopping. To keep me busy and my mind off of roaming on all the possibilities and conjuring up more concerns out of thin air.
I will give myself a migraine, especially since Mr. Ivan Grey clarified a few things, and then, there was what Jada had said.
"OK, let me get her," Daniel spoke as we got into the SUV, then he called his sister. I simply made myself comfortable and buckled up.
It was a concise conversation. It turned out Daniela was in a study hall with her classmates.
The disappointment was evident as I sadly looked away from Daniel to let him continue his conversation. "You know what? I've got something to keep her busy for a few hours. Meet us in the mall when you're done," he tells Daniela.
And suddenly, my heart soared back to life once more.
Pulling off, Daniel turns to me and says, "I am going to take you to my home. I just have to grab something quickly."
"OK, so where are you taking me after?"
"You'll see....."

Alpha Zayne Steele POV.
Leandra batted her eyelashes at Zayne and noted that he did have a point. However, he does not know how mean she-wolves can be if they feel threatened in the slightest.
But she simply says, "maybe." then shrugs it off as she was not about to explain further on the ways of she-wolves.
They fell into a nice flow of conversation. However, all too soon, members started pouring in looking for dinner, and Zayne needed to be in the dungeons.
Sacha was one of the first few to enter. She scowled at Leandra and went straight for Zayne.
Leandra inwardly rolled her eyes. Speak of the devil, and she would appear.
Sacha reaches out to touch his hand as she speaks to him when he visibly recoils out of her reach. After their conversation, both Sacha and Zayne headed toward the dungeon.
"Good luck to you, and see you around!" Zayne had said to Leanda over his shoulder.
"You bet," Leandra responds quickly and smiles into her tea cup.
When Sacha had shot Leandra the stink eye on her way out, and her face also held a slight 'look at me. Now what? I am walking out with the Alpha.'
Leandra remained sitting on the stool as she now wondered what the relationship between Sacha and Alpha Zayne was like.
Two hours later, in the dungeon...
"Who are you working for? Why are you doing this? What is the end game here?" As Alpha Zayne paced the interrogation room, he snarled off these questions at the Doctor. Only a table separates them, and the Doctor has been stubborn so far.
He just sat on his side of the table, looking at Alpha Zayne intently. And Zayne could see tiny beads of sweat on his forehead.
It's been fifteen f**king minutes of this. It was time to shake things up, Zayne's wolf Aragorn spoke, and it was true, plus Alpha Zayne was losing all patience.
BAM!
