Witches and Werewolves?
Aubrianne Ivanov
Aubrianne held the box out at arm's length and transported it back to her room. She laid it on her bed and examined it closely.
Nothing special stood out about this box except tiny intricate patterns on the top cover, and the bottom had some words inscribed.
She looked at the writing, and though it was a foreign language and one that she had never seen before in her twenty-two years of life on this earth, she understood what it meant.
So she held it and tilted it as she read it aloud, 'otym drethgyier, e terasef, e jhuegt, e bkhry, e wierys.' Which means 'To my daughter, my flesh, my blood, my bones, my heir.'
As those words left Aubrianne's lips, the box sparked. It was like an electric shock shot through Aubrianne's body, which caused her to let go of the box. The box fell and lay flat on the bed.
The little latch on the front middle of the box started to glow a shimmering white ray of light. Then she heard a click, and the lid slowly opened.
Aubrianne looked on cautiously, then her eyes widened, and she went limp before falling back onto her bed. A flash of that same shimmering white light had dashed out of the box and wrapped Aubrianne in a tight cocoon, completely pouring into her and filling her while at the same time freeing what was once bound in her.
Forty-five minutes later, Aubrianne stirred awake. She felt slightly light as a feather, more as if she was floating. But she was not. She was on her bed.
She tried to recall what had happened, but when she saw the box on the bed, she scampered away, petrified for her life. Her heart thundered in her chest, and she fought to calm herself, backed up against the headboard.
And it all came rushing back to her. Aubrianne looked down at herself and inspected her body. She got up and looked in the mirror, and what she saw caused her to have a mini-panic attack.
What was that bright light that attacked her? What the hell was going on? What was happening to me?
Aubrianne looks much of the same and not the same at the same time.
Her hair was suddenly more voluminous than she remembered, her lips pinker, her eyes glowed, and her honeyed color swirled in and out of honey. Changing to a piercing ice blue.
There was nothing different going on with her body. Her eyelashes were longer. However, she felt the same.
What the hell was going on? What am I? Am I even real? Am I awake, or am I dreaming?
Ok, well, if this was a dream, Aubrianne, don't chicken out now. Time to see what's in the box beside that white flash of light.
She slowly crept back to the box as if it might hear her approaching and softly sat on the bed next to it.
Getting comfortable, she reaches for the box again and slowly brings it towards her. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Opening her eyes, she exhales, then before she can open the box, she closes her eyes again.
Eyes closed, she slowly lifts the lid of the box, revealing the box's contents. She peeks at it, one eye slightly open. Nothing happened this time. There was no flash of light.
She visibly relaxed, and her demeanor completely changed when she saw a folded paper. Believing it to be a letter and hopeless to read what it says, she grabs it up and opens it.
Certain places were blurred as if washed away by tears. Aubrianne thought this must have been difficult for the person that wrote this.
She starts reading it instantly.
Aubrianne's heart squeezed in her chest. At that moment, a memory hit her like a tidal wave when she saw it was a two-page letter in her mom's handwriting.
She remembered her dream in the hospital of her mother trying to tell her something, but her mom couldn't. All she had said was that she was on the right path.
In the dream, her mom had said there were so many things she wished she had said when she was alive, and Aubrianne wondered if this was it.
Completely ignoring the other contents in the box, Aubrianne was only focused on the letter.
Dearest Bri,
{My baby girl, there are one too many things I want to say to you right now, but firstly, I am sorry, baby girl. I am so sorry for the hurt I may have caused by not being forthcoming with you about who and what your Father is.}
'Who and what my father is?' She scrambles to read on.
{About who and what I am, or was if I am dead, oh baby girl.}
"Mom? Who are you?"
{About his world and my world. Oh, baby girl, I wanted you to experience as much of an everyday life as I could have given you. I know it was not much. Please forgive me.
There is a diary with all the details of your Father's and my relationship, a picture of your Father, and behind it is his name and contact info should you decide you would like to meet him.
I wrote this letter and plan to give it to you when you graduate from college. After hiding it from you all this time, I couldn't bear to tell you. Instead, I selfishly chose to put pen to paper. Please forgive me, my princess. But I need you to listen carefully.
I am a witch, and your Father is a werewolf.}
"Ok, wait, what? Is this real? Is someone playing a joke on me? Did someone plant this trickery for me to find? Was my mother on drugs? All her sneaking around sometimes, could it be she was insane? Do I have that insane gene?" Aubrianne's mind was going miles and miles per minute, not stopping.
After her back and forth about her mother and the chance of this being true, she continues to read.
{What happened upon opening the box is your powers and magical life force being released into you. It will take time, as it was bound for so many years.}
"What? Powers? Magical life force?"
{Go to Theodore Claude Thornton and associates and ask for Mr. Grey. Let him know who you are, who I am, and I put you on to him. Give him your age and the year you were born, and inform him that you want to meet your Father. Honey, your Father is one of the most feared werewolves in the world and the most respected in the human world. Go to him. I know he can keep you safe.}
"WHAT!, WHAT!, WHAT!, WHAT! all this time, it was not safe for me to meet my dad. Now, all of a sudden, it is safe. Mom, you are not making any sense, Aubrianne shouts in frustration.
{You, my sweet child, are a half-witch and half-wolf, but stronger than both combined, not weak as most might assume. So many times, the thought had crossed my mind about whether I would be putting you in more harm and danger than anything by keeping you in the dark about your true identity.
I grappled with telling you everything because I was selfish. Your Father and I were in love, and when I got pregnant with you a few months later, I learned that he had found his mate, and my heart and world were crushed. It is my own selfish reasons I kept you both apart. I couldn't stand the thought of being near him and his mate, let alone having them in our lives. I couldn't, and I am so sorry, baby girl.
Listen, sweetie, mates for magical beings like us is a gift from the Divine Moon Goddess, and I knew what I was getting myself into when I started falling for him. I secretly and selfishly hoped he would never meet her. Oh, my sweet, and you will soon find your mate. Mates are special, and the mate bond is to be cherished.}
Aubrianne couldn't continue reading. She was in tears, her eyes blurry, she blinked a few times, blinking away the tears, and they flowed down her cheeks.
Witches and werewolves? She felt angry and devastated because she did not know how she felt about this or what to believe. Her mom willfully kept her away from her dad because she did not want to see him happy with another? Could she be that selfish?
