World's Worst Friend
Jada Wilson
Martha recalled how she had tried reaching out after she learned of Athalia's death months later but could not track Aubrianne because her magical elements were bound, plus she had no items of Aubrianne.
The good news was Aubrianne could not be found, and the bad news was that she could not be found. Martha felt terrible that she was unsuccessful in finding her.
And she had always wondered what happened to Athalia's little girl.
What were the odds of Aubrianne finding them? Or, more so, what were the odds that Jada had found her?
It was a blessing and simply meant to be. Martha could not find any other explanation but that the stars had aligned perfectly.
On the other hand, Jada's mind was blown by all this. Aubrianne was unique; no, she was not losing her mind, and no, someone did not bewitch her. But coming here, she learned more than she had bargained for, and now she had some questions of her own.
Like who was Aubrianne's father, her father was always a mystery to Jada's mother, Martha. However, Martha suspected it was another magical being, a werewolf.
And to top it off, Jada was now grappling with the thoughts of how to approach Aubrianne with this new information about who she really was.
The fact that Aubrianne was a potential hybrid and she had gifts. Jada did not know how much Aubrianne knew of their world; if their history was anything to go by, she would assume none.
Forty-five minutes later, in the squeaky clean, dimly lit library, Martha had the Book of Shifters in her hands, sitting by the vast center table, and found the page where they spoke of a white wolf.
She laid the huge book on the table.
The bottom line is that white wolves defy the customary laws of nature. They defy the natural laws set by the Divine Moon Goddess herself.
Firstly, white wolves were rare. Actually, one has not been spotted in the last fifteen hundred years. Some live for generations and never encounter one.
White wolves are natural-born rulers whose beta is imprinted on them directly and not simply chosen. They also have a devoted witch and a warrior wolf that imprints on them as well.
They are meant to be her protectors. Her added reinforcement as a white wolf was already powerful enough to challenge even the strongest Alphas.
Yes, Aubrianne can challenge an Alpha for their lands and communities with that much pure power she harbors. She is a Hybrid. Part werewolf and part witch. Stronger than both magical beings.
She can also pull energy and strength from her wolf when accessing her witch. When she accesses her wolf, she can draw energy and power from her witch, heightening her senses even more than they were already elevated.
This made Aubrianne's wolf deadly and in danger at the same time. Many would lay claims on her and attempt to steal her for themselves as a prized possession. Because her uniqueness would make her a constant target.
Some may even want her blood, which is said to work wonders with healing. It works miracles with its rejuvenating essence. No one can find out about this.
We must keep this under wraps.
Soon, people will realize that Aubrianne is a white wolf which is highly talked about in the ancient scrolls. And that is when Human and Magical Beings would be coming out of the woodwork for her.
We must protect her at all costs. It was her mother's wish from the very beginning.
Nevertheless, Jada had found out more than she had planned to back then.
Now, five months later, Jada had waited for the right moment, which never came, and the time for Aubrianne to leave drew near.
What should she do? How would she take the news? How can she implant herself in Aubrianne's new life to keep her safe without telling her the truth?
It was impossible. Jada needed to come clean. She knew she would eventually follow Aubrianne, so she had to woman up and get the truth out.
The whole truth and beg for forgiveness.
Thinking back now, she should have just spelled Aubrianne and transferred the details to her, then waited for a reaction, but then again, Jada did not want to risk blowing her cover, and the spell did not work as both she and her mother had established that Aubrianne was spelled and her powers bound.
Who knows what could have transpired or backfired?
Jada had gone back and forth about this too many times to recall.
They were carrying on as if Aubrianne was an egg easy to break.
One Week Earlier
Jada was torn to pieces on the night of the Strip club incident. When she burst into the room and saw Aubrianne in the condition she was in. Jada was beside herself, and she shook in anguish and fear about what had happened and what might have happened to Aubri.
She knew she needed to regain control of her spiraling emotions and perform a healing spell to help Aubri immediately, which would heal and restore her.
Jada could not bring herself to get past the gaping hole in Aubri's head. The skull was definitely cracked, and blood was oozing uncontrollably. Aubrianne was losing too much blood, and if Jada did not do something, she would quickly die from blood loss.
Using the opportunity to steel herself while Shawn stood watch, she calmed her shaky breathing and steadied her trembling hands as she held on to Aubrianne's head and started chanting the words to the spell of healing and restoration.
Jada was thankful that, in her state, she was able to seal the skull. However, she could not tell if her magic had extended further inside, repairing and restoring the damaged tissue.
Jada did not know how much strength she had mustered to get the job done, but she gave her all at the time, and in the end, she was beyond relieved that Aubrianne had pulled through.
Despite Jada's torment about what had transpired, she hid it well from Aubrianne. The fact that she was racked with guilt.
She knew something was off with Ron and brushed it off. Had she been more alert, this would never have happened. The most she had tried to do without giving away her identity was to try in her own way to bring it to Aubrianne's attention just to have her alert, if nothing else.
But she should have done more. That was not enough. Aubrianne had still gotten hurt pretty severely under her watch.
Jada was even madder that she didn't look for her that first time when she thought Aubrianne was taking too long.
She blamed herself.
And what was even worse, had she been open and honest to Aubrianne about herself five months ago. At least by now, she would have been able to fend off Ron herself.
She planned to take Aubrianne to see her mother and have her mom take care of 'the binding of her powers' situation.
Now, Jada had promised to tell Aubrianne everything before she left Clifton Hill.
Sadly, that never happened. The day had arrived for Aubrianne's departure, and Jada still could not bring herself to start such a topic with someone who had no clue about the creatures that roamed the day and night.
Plus, truth be told, Jada did not want to lose Aubrianne. And she grew terrified that that would be the outcome when Aubrianne learned the truth.
Jada felt like she had done enough by withholding vital information from her.
Besides, Aubrianne was so happy about this move, her new start, and her internship. Goddess, was I supposed to be the one to dump all this on her?
Jada had held back because of Aubrianne's exams, then she held back because of her graduation, so the reasons for holding back kept popping up.
Plus, what if Aubrianne was not a white wolf? Jada had weakly questioned. Knowing full well it had no merit to it because of her and Shawn's connection to Aubrianne.
Deep down, she knew Aubrianne's wolf was white, which explained everything. But yes, it was another reason Jada stalled, convincing herself that she was skeptical because what if Aubrianne was not who they thought she was, and this was all some elaborate scheme to lure a witch?
Though her mother had confirmed, she did not sense any magic working against them.
Jada had often questioned her motives, and why was it so hard to speak to Aubri about this? Gosh, was she being too chicken? The excuses were getting ridiculous. Just rip the bandaid off.
Two days earlier, on the phone with Aubrianne, Jada realized she was running out of time. Her mother was convinced that Aubrianne's father was a werewolf, and now hearing what Aubrianne said about Alpha Thornton, those bells in Jada's mind went off.
She now realized how much she withheld from Aubrianne and how the information she had to share could have made a difference in Aubrianne's life a long time ago.
Aubrianne was alone in TL dealing with all this, and Jada needed to be there for her. She would have been there right now with Aubrianne as she faced this if she had not been such a coward.
Now she felt like the world's worst friend!
