Savior Complex!
Ragnuff Crescent Moon Community
Alpha Zayne Steele
Zayne did not waste another minute. He swiftly dressed in the pants, acknowledged, and told Leandra to get behind him, "Could be, but get behind me still."
Zayne's mind returned to his conversation with his dad about how he suspected a few creatures might still be somewhere in his community roaming.
Though he could be dead wrong about his assumption, he had thought about alerting the people but to scare them for no reason. This was all based on the fact that he could not get an accurate count of how much had come on that night to begin with.
Sh!t, and maybe it was not a wise idea that he took Leandra to hunt creatures. But he would take precautions. They slowly and carefully headed toward the direction of the noise.
Zayne did not want to wait for someone to come and take her back, he wished to catch the source of the noise while the trail was hot, and he did not want her to return alone.
Goddess knows it is late, and she is still becoming familiar with the whole space of land. Zayne simply did not want her wandering out there alone. Goddess forbid, next thing she ran into a feral wolf.
At this point, they had walked for about three minutes and found nothing. They had heard nothing else since that little noise a few minutes ago. However, the fact they both heard it, Zayne did not want to give up.
After five more minutes of walking and searching, he mind-linked his Beta and Delta. 'Guys, meet me in five minutes east of the lake.'
Zayne realized that this might take longer than he first anticipated. He might as well call in assistance and someone to take Leandra back.
He then turned to Leandra and said, "Hey, when Delta Rafael gets here, I will have him escort you back to your room to be safe while Mekhi and I continue the search."
When Zayne had said it, his glare was as stern as ever, and there was no room for debate or other suggestions. He was back in full Alpha mode.
Rafael was fast asleep and was a bit groggy; he had no excitement during the night. However, Mekhi, on the other hand, could not sleep.
He was still wide awake after Sacha had left his room.
All he kept thinking about was their special time together, as small as it was. It was a big deal to him, and he could not settle himself long enough for a good night's rest.
He did not even venture to wash the scent of Sacha off of him.
He was up on his feet in no time, pulled a pair of sweatpants over the boxers he wore, threw on a jersey, then made his way to Rafael's room.
After Sacha had left, the most he had found the energy to do was take off his clothing.
After five minutes, they were out the doors of the packhouse and on the path where Zayne had directed them.
On their way, they had both paid close attention to their surroundings, their radar was up, and they were fully alert. Zayne must have found something or suspected something. They were used to these kinds of calls at these odd hours.
And that was due to Zayne's odd hours of running!
However, they saw nothing that looked out of place, and they heard no strange noises except for two heartbeats as they drew closer to Zayne and company.
When they reached Zayne, he was leaning on the tree, alert and looking around, while Leandra sat on the tree trunk.
"Rafael, can you please escort young Dartwood back to her room and return at once." Zayne, ready to move out, got straight to it at the sight of them.
Mekhi's eyes immediately found Zayne, and he subtly smirked.
Zayne rolled his eyes.
"Sure, Hey Leandra, let's head back," Rafael spoke, and Leandra begrudgingly got up and followed behind Rafael after stealing a glance at Zayne, feeling like a knife was stuck in her chest.
Rafael simply did as he was told without question, he usually doesn't mind his Alpha business, but Rafael must say, good to see him letting loose a bit. Goddess knows his Alpha is so uptight, geez.
If ever anyone NEEDED to get laid, it was Zayne. Rafael had quipped in his mind.
"Mekhi, follow me. I want us to scour this area, returning to the lake. Maybe we missed something." Again Zayne left no room for questions.
He had said, 'Young Dartwood.' So were we back to young Dartwood now? She was not young Dartwood ten minutes ago. Ten minutes ago, he was hilt deep in her, grunting and hissing his way into sweet releases.
She thought upsettingly.
She felt like this entire night was for naught. A waste because now, it seemed as though nothing had changed between them. Not even the slightest.
Maybe he was just in his Alpha mode. She was convinced and reassured herself that it was probably nothing, plus he had told her she was something.
Leandra then picked up the pace behind Rafael.
Meanwhile, both Mekhi and Zayne carry out their search of the area under the moonlit sky and their wolf's vision. Only this time, it was not as bright as it was at the lake, where no trees loomed overhead.
All the beautiful stars and bright glowing moon did not shine through as brightly here in the forest under thick tree branches laden with leaves that dominated above.
"I am not picking up any danger. My wolf and I have been sniffing our lungs out... Not even the scent of a feral wolf or the stench of those creatures." Mekhi sighed and spoke, slowing down in his trek.
Zayne ignored him, he knew he had heard something, and there was something in him that couldn't rest until he located the source.
Maybe it was because he felt in the back of his mind that at least two creatures were still on the loose, or it was something more. But right now, all he knew was that he needed to keep looking, and so they did.
Soon Rafael had joined them and the search. He had returned to the lake to start and trace back to the forest.
"You sure about this, buddy?" Mekhi asked after fifteen more minutes of searching the same area, but before Zayne could answer him, Mekhi said, "Goddess, ZAYNE!"
With the sound of urgency in Mekhi's voice, Zayne came to his side in a second, and his eyes followed Mekhi's to look at what Mekhi saw.
Zayne saw a woman who had crawled in between the trunk of one of the most enormous trees they had on this land.
The trunks were large, and some were raised off the floor, providing a little cocoon and crawl space for someone.
The woman was unconscious. Her heartbeat was barely there. She had a dirty sheet wrapped around her, her skin and hair a mess, covered in dirt, "Goddess, what happened to her?" Zayne asked no one in particular.
His heart squeezed in his chest, she reminded him so much of his mother, and Goddess knew he could not save his mother, but he sure as hell would see to it that this woman got some help. 'She seems familiar.'
Aragorn spoke up for the first time since Zayne's frolic with Leandra.
'I know I felt it too and instantly thought of Mom, but I know it was not her. However, I can't shake that familiar feeling. You are right. Do you have any idea who she can be?' Zayne informed and queried.
'No, I don't,' Aragorn answered, a little frustrated. He did not know who this woman could possibly be to them for this feeling of familiarity to be so strong, but he was just as curious.
Mekhi and Zayne both worked to rip away the large tree trunks to be able to get to the woman. "Who is she, and where did she come from? At this time of night!" Mekhi asked and wondered.
With both their strengths, they were able to take care of the tree trunks with ease.
"I don't know, but at least I don't sense anything malicious from her. I want to help her, Mekhi."
"That I already know, Zayne, I know you all too well, but I hope you know you cannot save them all, right?" Mekhi said casually as they got her out, and Zayne held her cradle style.
Zayne had only shrugged at Mekhi's words, and soon they made their way to the hospital in their community.
Mekhi knew Zayne through and through by now, and it did not take a genius to tell what Zayne was thinking.
Of course, he wanted to help that woman, even if he did not know her. He had that savior complex. Mekhi always wondered if that stemmed from the fact that Zayne had lost his mother at such a young age that he could not physically do anything to help.
