Chapter 56: Lies and Rivals.
FIFI.
I studied Gigi’s face as he watched the girl stomp out, her family right with her. He had been staring at her so much since he arrived. I didn’t want to think the impossible.
Claire cleared her throat to announce that she was still there. I nodded her way and asked her to leave. She had been a great help today and she was going to get rewarded for it.
As she prepared to leave, I noticed how subtly she was avoiding Gigi’s gaze. I looked between them. Was there some issue of sort between them? Before I could ask, Claire had left. I made a mental note to remember to ask her later. I glared at the policemen who were still standing watching me. They got the hint and looked away.
When I saw Gigi check his watch, I knew he was about to leave. So, I braced up my act. “Gigs baby, are you leaving now?” I asked him, linking my hands with his.
“Yes,” He grumbled. I pretended like I didn’t hear him.
“That is great then! I was going to leave too. Common, I will go home with you.” I said to him sweetly. He pursed his lips, scratching the back of his neck like I was a pain in the ass.
“No, Fifi. You can come with me. Not now.” He deadpanned, not even trying to hide the dislike in his tone.
“Why not?” I asked him standing akimbo.
“Just not now.” He snapped. He sighed and then started to walk out like he was irritated. I followed suit, running after him.
“Alright then, I guess I’d see you later then,” I told him as he got into his car, already giving his chauffeur instructions.
“Bye, love.” I blew him a kiss as the car drove away. I stood staring till I could not see it again. I was dejected. Gigi had turned me down again. Like he always did.
I heaved a sigh as I turned around to get into my waiting car. The chauffeur was quick to get the door handle for me. I huffed and got in wishing it was Giovanni instead.
The chauffeur got in as well and I fastened my seatbelt, my mood turned off. I hated it when he did that. I hated it when he rejected me and turned down my offers that way. It always made me feel sick.
“Madam, are you okay?” The chauffeur asked me. I passed him a deathly glare that could burn his whole being if my eyes were lasers.
“Mind your business and drive me home.” I snapped. He nodded quickly and did as told, hitting the road.
Everything about Gigi turned me on. From the first day, I met him, I had been convinced that he was mine to be.
I met him in high school. I had only just changed my school to his. His school was the best in town and the most expensive. Dad had easily gotten me admission there and paid my fees. I was heading to class on the second week of resumption, the third day in the week when I saw him.
Yeah, I loved him that much to keep the date in mind. I had been going with the set of friends I had turned into minions when I sighted him. He was helping a boy his age who had slipped on the floor get up.
His actions had been too sweet for me to overlook. I kept staring at him, watching him. By the end of the day at school that day, I was convinced that I was in love with him. I went to introduce myself to him but he merely brushed past me.
I was hurt by his actions.
That day, I cried home to my dad. Knowing fully well that he didn’t love to see my tears, I wailed loudly. When he asked what was wrong, I discovered to him that a guy I loved snubbed me. He hadn’t been so happy. When he asked for his name, I had been too happy to tell him.
Dad asked me to stop crying and that he would work on it. I was happy cos I knew my dad could do it. A few days later, my dad informed me that I was betrothed to him. He was going to marry me. He was going to be mine.
I remember dancing around the house for days. After that, I was sure he was never going to snub or look down on me. But he did, numerous times.
I smiled at the memory and frowned at the end. He was still what he had always been from childhood. It was up to me to change his mind.
The driver drove Into the gates of my house and I alighted from the car. Well, after he got the door for me. I made my way past the fountain and walked into the house. My mother was sitting in the living room doing something on her phone while the TV was on.
She looked up from her phone when I came closer. She smiled at me and put down her phone beside her.
“How are you, hun?” She asked me. I sighed tiredly.
“Fine mum.” I groaned. “You know what mum, I met someone today,” I informed her.
“Who?” She asked, curiosity sparkling in her eyes.
“Your first daughter. My sister.” I disclosed. I didn’t like boring games. Mum’s smile wiped off her face as I had expected and she sprang up from her seat.
“How…how is she?” She requested, her voice trembling. I rolled my eyes.
“She is fine. How else?” I retorted. Mum suddenly looked excited.
“That is great! Come on, come and take me to her.” She pleaded to grab my hand.
“Mum, please hold on.” I stopped her. “ What are you getting all excited for? Do you think she wants to see you? After all you did to her and made her go through? She wasn’t even ready to talk to me. She slapped me and you think she would accept you? I don’t think she can ever forgive you for everything you did.” I lied. Mum’s smile wiped off and she stilled. I didn’t feel good about the lie but I had to do it. Otherwise, she would bring that wretched being into our home.
I knew how she had always talked about meeting her children again, praying they forgive her. But I didn’t want them. Mum already made her choice. It was my turn to make mine.
I didn’t want a rival.
