Chapter 58: Unbothered moms and engaged bosses.
KIKI.
“I still can’t believe it!” I shook my head in disbelief. I was sitting outside the house with Grace and we were still talking about everything that I’d happened to yesterday. After I left the police station, I hadn’t seen her cos she had to go back to work.
“We were so close. We were so close, Grace.” My voice shook and my lips trembled. My eyes moistened with unshed tears.
“We could have had sex that night. And that would have been a shame cos he has a fiancee.” I laughed a bitter one. Yeah, he had a fiancee.
“The fact that the fiancee happened to be the bitch of a sister I’ve always prayed to meet.” My voice trembled more. “I still can’t believe that Fifi turned out that way,” I mumbled.
“Me neither.” Grace shook her head. “I know firsthand how you have always wanted to meet her again. What she did yesterday was the least of my expectations.” She added.
“It shattered me. I don’t even know what to think.” I told her. She sighed and put a hand around my shoulder to comfort me.
“It’s alright, Kiki.” She patted my back soothingly.
“What am I going to do? I can’t hate him even if I want to. That doesn’t mean I’m not mad that we almost had sex and he has a fiancee. It makes me wonder if he has always been a cheat.” I told her, blabbing out my thoughts.
“You do you, Kiki. I know you, you can deal with any situation. I’m trusting you on this.” She said and I nodded.
“Thanks, Grace,” I mumbled.
“You know, something happened at work yesterday.” She told me. The sadness in my tone made me sit up sensing that whatever she had to say was important.
“Tell me, ” I urged her.
“I found out that Fifi is the daughter of my boss, the ones I work with.” She told me. My eyes widened and my heartbeat momentarily increased.
“What?!” I was shocked, my eyes the size of saucers. She shook her head.
“No way!” My heart broke.
“Mum… mum has been in this city and she didn’t…she didn’t bother to find me.” The tears were rolling freely now.
“I’m so sorry, Kiki.” She told me. The sincerity in her tone made me wipe my tears away.
“I was shocked when I found out too. Then, I was called to serve Fifi juice. She was staring at me as if she recognized me from the station but I knew she didn’t.” Her voice was starting to tremble now.
“I went ahead to fetch her the juice. I was going to place it on the stool for her when I missed a foot and the juice spilled on the floor.” I sat up rigid sensing whatever was to cons next wouldn’t be good.
“I was trying to explain the situation. The madam asked me to go but Fifi didn’t let me. She slapped me so hard.” Her eyes were teary now. I gasped, clasping my hand over my mouth in shock.
“She didn’t end it there. She asked me to go down on my knees and use my tongue in cleaning the spilled juice on the tiles.” She confessed.
I stopped breathing.
I didn’t know if it was hatred or anything but whatever it was intensified in my heart at that moment.
“And-and mum?” I asked. She shook her head, looking away from me. My fears began to rise. She hadn’t changed one bit!
“I’m-I’m so sorry, Grace.” I squeezed her ha da horrified. She faced me with tears in her eyes.
“Don’t be. It’s alright.” She wiped away her tears. “At least, the floor was clean.”She tried to joke but I was boiling inside.
“You have to quit that job,” I told her.
“What?!” She asked. “No, Kiki. The pay is worth it.” She said.
“They humiliated you!” I snapped.
“Kiki, we need the money.” She pleaded and I nodded, reasoning with her.
“I guess we do.” I heaved a sigh. “But I promise, it’s just for the main time, okay?” I assured her and she nodded. I pulled her into a hug and we went silent. Until a familiar honk startled me.
“Your driver is here. Go to work. We got this.” She smiled and I nodded. I got up from where I sat. I smiled at her and dashed in to get my bag. I found it already packed by Jojo. He was sketching again. I picked up my black bag, pressed a kiss to his cheeks, and walked out.
I went straight to the car after waving Grace bye. I was smiling to assure her but I was starting to get mad again.
“You are early today,” Pete smiled as I got into the car.
“Yeah,” I said dryly. “Good morning,” I added.
“Good morning to you too.” He smiled but I wasn’t in the mood. I adjusted the dark blue pencil gown I had on with heels. It was one of the dresses Gigi had bought me in Miami. He hadn’t seen me pick it so I guess he wouldn’t know a thing. If he knew, I would be too embarrassed to face him.
“Are you okay?” Pete asked me when he noticed my silent yet uncomfortable mood.
“Yeah, just drive me to the coffee shop,” I mumbled as I got some notes ready.
“Oh, we are going to the boss’s home today and not the coffee shop. He is working home today.” He announced and I scoffed.
Way to go, Gigi.
“Pete?” I called him.
“Yeah?” He answered.
“Do you know that the big boss is engaged?” I asked him.
“I’m not surprised he is. It’s all over the internet though they are hardly seen together.” He confirmed and I scoffed.
Oh, wow!
Bloody motherfuckers!
