Chapter 62: Pests and Marriage.
GIOVANNI.
I sighed watching her stand at akimbo, her hands pressed to the side. I passed Matteo that regular look. The usual look that spelled ‘Oh, not again!’
I didn’t think she reads expression cos if she did, she would have gotten it now, right? Or maybe she was just trying to be a pest.
She was dressed in this short excuse of a dress. A nude-colored dress that stopped on her mid-thigh. It had a sweetheart neckline that ran deep and left her cleavages exposed. When she turned to the side, I noticed the back cut was really low. She matched all this with heels.
She looked good really.
But still, I tried to imagine Kiki wearing something like this. I would have probably had my sight blinded. I would spot a hard-on immediately.
She didn’t even dress like this yet she already had me paralyzed. If she went a step like this, I would run mad.
I exhaled and passed Matteo another look that we only seemed to understand. Of all the things I had to stumble on this morning, she just had to be among.
But she was the least important on my list. But also the one I had to tackle first.
Matteo cleared his throat and in the process earned her attention. “Kiki resigned this morning.” He told her. But the confused expression on her face told him she was going to need more than that piece of information.
“She was his PA, fit for the job.” I rolled my eyes at Matteo’s obvious sarcasm. He still didn’t think she was enough but hell she was.
“And so?” Fifi demanded. Her eyes twinkled with obvious irritation. “What do you mean by she is irreplaceable? If she wants to leave, she should be allowed to.” She hissed.
“There are a thousand and one people better than her. It’s not like she deserves such a high-paying job in the first place.” The hate was clear from that statement.
“Who cares that she was here in the first place?” She asked and I wanted to cut her short and tell her that I do. “Someone who should have been laid off by you instead of giving the luxury to quit.” She hissed again like she was disgusted by the news.
All this talk for Kiki. Just because she quit. She won’t even ask why she quit the job.
“You know, Kiki is my half-sister.” She told us but her eyes were on me. I leaned back in my chair and rested my back. Here was the person who accused Kiki of impersonating people’s names and personalities.
Now, she was confessing that she was a half-sister.
I just smiled.
“I thought you mentioned yesterday that you don’t know her,” I said cutting her off guard. Her eyes doubled over and I smiled within me.
“Same thing, ” She shrugged trying to act natural even though it was pretty obvious that I had burst through her flames. When did she become this dumb?
Matteo met my eyes, shook his head at me, and looked away. He knew her very much just like me. He had seen her firsthand as a child so he knew how disturbing she could be. And how much it would be a mistake to engage her.
“When we were younger, she used to be so dirty and disorganized. Honestly, mum always did he best taking care of her but she had three kids you know.” She smiled, faking nostalgia.
“Kiki would litter the house with her school books. She was so disorganized. She hardly had time for us. She always pushed me away when I came to her. She was so mean that she always gave us knocks on our heads. I always ended up crying to mum every time.” Her pathetic excuse for a story was starting to bore me.
If she didn’t have anything to say, she could have just kept quiet. Especially as it was pretty much obvious that she was lying. Kiki didn’t have much but she managed to look neat and presentable. She was fucking neat and organized.
Even Matteo seemed to agree with me on that. The silent looks we exchanged spoke volumes. He was starting to cringe while I was struggling to hold it in.
“She did mean things to me as a kid. Once, she took me out to hang out with her friends. She used me as a means to get out of the house but she ended up leaving me all to myself that day. When I grew tired and wandered off, she almost had my head.” She hissed with too much disdain.
“I wonder how you can employ her with such disorganized skills.” She spat.
“People change, you know?” Matteo decided to engage her.
“Yeah. People that aren’t Kiki Ajayi.” She hissed. I shook my head at her attitude. This was one of the reasons I didn’t like her.
“You know, for someone who is your half-sister, you sure do have a lot of bad things to say about her.” I threw her in a tight corner with my words. I could see that with the way she kept avoiding my eye.
“I’m just saying the truth. She was really cruel.” She mumbled.
“How cruel?” I hummed. “It’s easy to point accusing fingers at people. Especially when you possess such traits.” I told her. Her face whipped up and locked gaze with mine.
“What do you mean?” She asked. I knew if I decide to engage her, it would turn out to be a mistake. So, I just shrugged casually.
“Just saying.” I flashed her a smile which she didn’t return.
“That is by the way.” She tried to act nonchalant. “The reason why I stopped over is that” She stopped and patted her hair. “Uhm, I’m thinking of telling your dad that we should get married soon, don’t you think?”
