Chapter 61: Another Pa and confession.
GIOVANNI.
I dashed up my room hurriedly. The panic that shot through my veins was ready to paralyze me. Shooting Matteo a quick text, I tossed my phone on the bed and dashed for my walk-in closet to get changed.
How quick I was able to select new outfits was surprising considering the fact that I usually took my time to look good. I barely had time to style my hair but I was able to make it look good before I dashed down the stairs to my home office to get the files.
I walked briskly out of the door. Pete who had been waiting outside the door with a torn expression on his face that revealed he was probably coming to ask me what had gone wrong or why his best friend had gone home. I noticed how fond he was of her.
“Sir, Kiki_”
“Not now.” I cut him off hurrying towards the car. He followed suit. He was quick to get the door for me and I slide in, settling down with my nerves all over the place.
He got behind the wheels and started to drive out, unlocking the gate with the keys in his hands. I tapped my hands on my thighs nervously.
My phone dinged of a notification and I reached into the pockets of my blazer to get it out.
MATTEO
Bro, you sure everything is cool?
Where the f**k are you?
I didn’t bother replying since we were close to the office already. I wiped my forehead with the handkerchief I had in the inner pocket of my blazer. Beads of sweat that had gathered on my forehead came off.
“We have arrived, sir. ” Pete’s voice interrupted me, stopping me from indulging in the mini reverie my mind was starting to build.
I nodded and got my briefcase. I didn’t wait for him to get the door for me before getting off the car. I adjusted my blazer trying to appear presentable as I started to stroll into the building. Pete was right behind me, quick to get my briefcase from me. I flashed him a smile and walked in.
“Sir?” Someone called out to me as I proceeded to head for the executives lift. I whirled around and came face with one of the sales associates.
“Yes?” I asked her a bit impatient. However, the familiarity of her face made me realize that she was the lady who had called me over yesterday. She was Kiki’s friend.
“Thank you for coming over yesterday. Thank you for saving Kiki.” She mumbled. I nodded and passed her a smile even though she appeared not to be happy over how it had ended yesterday.
I turned around and walked away from her impatiently. I had bigger things to worry about. Bigger things that involved Kiki. When I reached the top floor and passed by Kiki’s office, it took everything in me not to stop and take a glance at it.
Matteo was already waiting in my office when I walked in. I strolled in casually and put down the briefcase.
“What happened man?” He asked calmly even though I knew he was curious. I collapsed on my swivel chair and watched him.
“Kiki quitted her job this morning!” I announced. His head flashed up in shock that I knew wasn’t really shock.
“What happened? She couldn’t handle the pressure again?” He asked with a suggested undertone.
“No, man.” I dug my hand into my hair.
“I messed up pretty badly. You know the trip we went on to Miami?” I asked him even though he did. He took a seat sensing my mood. I rarely got into moods like this.
“Yeah,” He nodded and urged me to continue.
“We almost had sex. It wasn’t a fling. We were so close to it. We did other things too. Since we arrived, she’s been avoiding me. I got it so I let her be. Only for me to get a call yesterday and discover that she was in trouble and was going to be detained at the station.
Guess who she was in trouble with? Fifi. I swear I was shocked when I saw her. I didn’t know what she was doing here all the way from Italy again. She had followed me here.” I narrated in few sentences to him.
He didn't say anything surprisingly since he loved to talk. So, I continued.
“You know how Fifi is. You know how quick she is to give out every information about us to whoever she felt threatened by. So, she told Kiki. She was looking at me with this look of shock. When she came by this morning, we had a fall out. She screamed about deserving an explanation and I just shut her up. I said a lot of mean things to her, man.” I was breathing in heavily now.
“So, she quit?” He asked putting the pieces together.
“Yeah, “ I ran my hand into my hair again.
“You know, I told you this would happen. I warned you. It was like I knew this would happen. You just made the poor girl go through so many emotions and you lead her on. You put her through all your schemes.” He sighed. “Well, it was good she resigned. I would get you another PA.” He said.
I wasn’t surprised he said that. He hadn’t wanted Kiki for the job anyway.
“No, man.” I groaned. “I think it’s deeper than you think. I may have caught some feelings for her.” I confessed with a sigh. I was admitting.
“Then, you have to move past that. You know that is not the best idea. I will get you another PA.” He was insistent.
“I think I love her!” I blurted out. My heartbeat momentarily increased. Matteo looked at me like I was crazy.
Then, he nodded.
“The more reason why you can’t have her back to work for you.” He tried to make me see reason but my mind was already made up. It would be a waste of time.
“Matteo,” I breathed. “I don’t want anybody else. It is either Kiki or nobody else!” I snapped. Just then, the door bursted open to reveal Fifi as she waltzed into my office unannounced.
“What do you mean by its either Kiki or nobody else?” She demanded in that mean tone she rarely used nowadays.
Oh, Shit!
