66: Bidding and obsessed antifans.
KIKI.
Giovanni granted me a few minutes to change out of my clothes after I told him that I would resume work again. He seemed elated at the news and his smile made my heart flutter. He took my hand and led me to the car. While we drove to the company, he kept making calls. I tried to be subtle with the way I watched him.
He had been so sure that I didn't like him.
If only he knew.
Oh, he probably thought I was capping over the things I said on the night I was drunk. It wasn’t in my place to correct him yet.
The car stopped and Matteo came in, taking the front seat while he gave instructions to Pete. Gigi had told me earlier at my house that we were going to bid on a contract. I didn’t understand what that meant but I didn’t ask.
Now, In the car with the two men, with Matteo’s eyes sweeping over me, trying to read and understand what I’d happened, I couldn’t help but smile.
The men communicated with each other, marking out the best strategy to go about the bidding. In the middle of their discussion, I was able to understand a few statements. But I didn’t contribute. Instead, I leaned back in my seat and watched them.
Or rather, I watched him with a ghost of a smile playing on my lips.
We soon arrived at the company and we alighted from the car. As I stepped down with Gigi’s briefcase, another car drove into the building and the people in it came down. A man among them who seemed like their boss looked over at us with this cussed expression that made me wonder who he was.
Gigi chuckled as we made our way into the place. We were led to a large office we were directed to the seat opposite the people that came in after us. Gigi took his seat with Matteo and they discussed in hushed tones again. Because of how close I was sitting with them, I was able to make out their discussions and plans.
“Good day, my fellow business people.” A man walked in with his caliber. A man who I guessed owned the company we were in. Every other people replied to him and I listened as the man spoke, discussing the details of the bidding with the two companies which included ours.
When a young lady like myself came up to start the bidding, I got my notepad ready. The bidding began with the man whom I had discovered to be Luca Arts, the boss from the other company started the bidding.
Gigi raised the bar and the rapport went like that. When it seemed like Gigi’s plans were going to fail, I took charge of him, giving the takes. Gigi let me while Matteo failed not to show me that look. I knew how to salvage the situation. After all, I had gotten wind of their conversations and it wasn’t heading their way.
So, I had bidded very high. The amount of money I knew I could never own in my life. I felt someone’s gaze on me, pressing to the sides of my face. When I turned, I discovered it was Luca Arts. He was staring at me with this awestruck expression.
Before I could ponder about it, we were awarded the contract. That seemed to get his eyes off me.
“I have a proposition,” Someone said. When I turned, I discovered it was him. It seemed like their company didn’t have up to what we did so he was trying to cut corners.
“We already discussed this, Luca.” The middle-aged man, Mr. Harry told him in his gruff voice. “The rules were stated from the beginning. The highest bidder wins. Thankfully, this young lady from the Calisto group has done that for them. There is nothing to discuss again except with the Calistos.” The man concluded.
If I wasn’t looking at Luca Arts then I would have missed the heavy, deathly glare he sent Giovanni. It was so intense that I couldn’t help but wonder if it was more than the contract.
Gigi didn’t seem to mind though. He went about his job, speaking to Mr. Harry while I packed up for us to leave. We were done anyways. When I felt someone’s gaze on me like before, I knew who it was.
This time, I matched his gaze, staring right back since I didn’t understand why he was looking at me that way in the first place. Looking at him this up close helped me to make out his facials.
Deep raven black hair in a jet style, a bit chiseled jaws, and beautiful sparkling eyes. He was beautiful. No capping, he was handsome. He looked like the kind of man who enchanted ladies with their sparkling eyes.
I wasn’t joking. His eyes could make one’s legs go jelly. Thankfully, that charm didn’t work on me. I had someone else who seemed ensnared by me.
But what I didn’t like was the fact that they were not leaving. Also, I wasn’t comfortable with the way he kept glaring at Gigi. He seemed like a sore loser. The annoyance in his eyes was as clear as day.
I looked away from him to conclude what I was doing.
“Kiki, we leave now,” Matteo told me when he came by. I nodded and got on my feet. We made our way out, looking as professional as possible. But when Luca Arts caught up with us in a few seconds, getting in the way of Gigi from getting into the car, I knew it was about to go down.
“You think you can get away like that.” Luca Arts started, growling. Gigi tsked.
“Luca, Luca.” He tsked again. “Always such a sore loser.” He smirked.
“Oh, you think so?” Luca said. He was furious. “I will destroy you, Giovanni. I will chase you out of the business world.” He said, stepping closer.
“Yeah, right,” Gigi said dryly. “The same old threat.” He smirked. It didn’t sound like a threat to me. It sounded like Luca Arts were promising.
“We will see if it’s a threat.” He concluded and stormed off. I watched him go ballistic on one of his workers and I winced for them.
“Who is that?” I asked Gigi when we were in the car.
“An anti-fan. A very obsessed one.”
