Chapter 6 Shattered Heart

I was standing in the college corridor with a bouquet of yellow flowers in my hand. I was lost in my thoughts, my lips were drawn up in a cheerful smile, and my eyes sparkled. I was overjoyed because Jonathan had saved me the day before, proving to me that he secretly cared about me.

“Today, I will undoubtedly make Jonathan my friend, because friendship is the first step towards love. I knew from the beginning that he isn't who he appears to be to the rest of the world. He proved yesterday that he is not a monster by saving me. He is my saviour.” I conversed with myself and my smile broadened as my gaze was drawn to Jonathan.

He rolled his eyes and curled his lips before sauntering into the classroom, completely ignoring me, and my lips drew down in disappointment.

"Jonathan." I dashed behind him and blocked his path by stepping in front of him. He gave me an irritated look.

"Jonathan, I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so much for saving me yesterday." I thanked him from the bottom of my heart and extended the bouquet to him.

I grinned like an idiot as he accepted the bouquet, and I literally shivered as his cold hand touched mine. For a split second, we locked gazes.

There was such a strong connection between us, I swear. Every time he approached me, my heart rate quickened.

"Thank you so much." He scoffed and pitched the bouquet on the floor before crushing it with the heel of his shoes.

I felt a stabbing pain in my heart and my face fell with sadness. I had brought that bouquet for him with great affection.

He gritted his teeth and moved his face dangerously close to mine after tightly grasping my arms. I stared at him, disheartened, my eyes welling up with tears.

"Now pay close attention to what I'm saying, I'm not interested in you. So please stop following me and fantasising that I saved you yesterday because I have feelings for you or am interested in you." He growled at me and pushed me away.

I was staring deeply into his brown eyes, trying to read them while ignoring his words, because I knew he was lying. I was certain that he had saved me the day before because he had feelings for me, and he was hiding something huge from me.

He thought that if he continued to yell at me and treat me harshly in front of everyone, I would begin to think that he had no interest in me, but he was unaware that his actions would not persuade me of that.

"Jonathan, you can't change the truth by shouting at me. You care about me and that's why you saved me last night, and this is the truth," I said confidently.

"Whatever." He said curtly before marching to the classroom. When he crumpled the bouquet with his shoes, my heart shattered into millions of pieces. I bit my lower lip and fought back tears.

'What am I doing wrong that he isn't talking to me and treating me like that? Why am I still falling for him if he is yelling at me and insulting me? Why is he doing this? What secret is he keeping?' All of these questions were eating my mind.

After all of this drama, I was not in the mood to attend college, so I returned home, disheartened.

There was no one with whom I could express my emotions. I knew Amir and Nora were always there for me, but I didn't want to bother them all of the time.

I just lay there on the bed, thinking about my empty life. My life was never normal, and after meeting Jonathan, it became even more complicated, but I decided that I wouldn't give up until I got my answers, because I was a strong girl. Life had made me strong, and I was no longer afraid of anything.

The sole benefit of living a life full of hardships and suffering is that it makes one exceedingly resilient.

My phone rang after an hour. I took the phone from the side table and glanced at the caller ID. It was Amir's call.

“Hi,” I answered the call after sighing.

"Why did you return home without attending college? Is everything okay?" He inquired, his voice filled with concern.

“Amir, don’t worry. I’m fine. I’ll explain everything to you tomorrow.” I reassured him, and I knew somewhere he got an idea that the problem was related to Jonathan only.

He informed me, “Mia, there is an annual college party tomorrow. So you have to come.”

“Amir, sorry. I can't come, and you know why." I initially refused to come, but he eventually persuaded me.

I spent the entire day lying in bed and only ate something at night for survival.

I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but my eyes popped open as I felt Jonathan standing nearby. My desperate eyes searched the entire room, but he was nowhere to be found. My heart was pounding. I could sense his presence.

"What's the problem with me? I’m imagining him again.” I muttered and took a deep breath to calm myself down. When I closed my eyes again and tried to sleep, I felt his presence again, as if he was standing near my bed, staring at me.

Baffled, I opened my eyes and climbed out of bed after pulling off the comforter.

"Jonathan, are you here?" I asked, my gaze darting around the room, desperately searching for him. I knew I sounded crazy because Jonathan couldn't get into my room as the door was locked.

I lumbered into the bathroom and splashed water on my face. My eyes dilated in utter shock as I saw him in the mirror, standing behind me. As I turned around, he vanished like smoke in the air.

"What's happening to me?" I murmured as I ran my fingers through my hair. I felt I was going insane.

I stepped out, my eyes still frantically searching for him in the entire room, but deep down I knew he was just my imagination because he couldn't come into my room.

And why would he come here?
