Chapter 22
He woke subconsciously!...
He stared at her sleeping form beside him. She was a deep sleeper, He noticed!.
He would often wake in the middle of the night, either to grab a cup of water or use the bathroom but she never for once woke, only stirred. He also noticed how disturbed her face looked sometimes like she was having a nightmare.
But often she slept peacefully, which was why he always found himself beside her at night. It became worse after he walked in on her with the doctor, Stan.
He was filled with envy, he never had to beg for attention from any woman. They always came begging with it even charlotte at some point. But Sophia was different, it was like she was immune to his charms and influence. It disturbed him to the core to think she was his wife and he deserved some attention from her but he got none.
Only what he could afford was to admire her sleeping form and steal back to his room at exactly four am every morning. Scared of seeing her face in the bright morning and seeing the detest or pain in them.
And that was exactly what he was doing this minute, running back to his room like the coward he was. He didn't dare face his problems. Though he wanted nothing but to stay and watch her till the sun rose and see her nice caramel skin glow under its effect, but he couldn't.
He walked out of the room to his. He sat on his bed rubbing off the sleep on his face. Jason noticed his phone on the chest beside his bed blinking, so he picked it up and saw fifteen missed calls from charlotte alone and voice messages.
Jason sighed. He was on a very rough patch with charlotte. Honestly, he felt a bit bad for keeping her around now he was married. Even if he tried to avoid her she would still find a way to lure him back to her. That was charlotte for you.
He didn't have the strength for her drama so he turned off his phone, knowing it would cause more trouble in the daytime when she would approach him. but at least by then, he would have mustered the strength to.
He lay on his bed in deep thought about his life and where he was headed. Surprisingly he didn't feel so abhorred with the thought of being married to a cripple. he used to think his reputation was at risk of being made a mockery of but surprisingly he noticed how people looked at him with respect even at school when he dropped by to see his lecturer.

"Hi... Welcome" Sophia said to the guy who stood in the living room admiring the interior.
"Thanks am Sean, Jason's friend. I bet you met me at your wedding?" He smiled.
"Oh, sorry I wasn't myself then. guess I was nervous too" she replied, embarrassed.
"Sure I understand, I guess he doesn't talk about me then? typical of him" he joked.
Sophia only managed a smile. "Please sit what can I get you?."
Sean took a seat confidently "I'll have water please."
Sophia sent one of the maids to get water for him.
"Am sorry he's not around but you should call him maybe he didn't think you'll come over" she suggested.
"Ah, sure but he wasn't the only reason I came around."
Surprised, Sophia stared at him and wondered what else would bring Jason's friend over if not to see him.
"I came to see you too. I mean Jason is my very good friend if not a brother. So I wanted to get to know more about his pretty wife since he hardly says anything when asked. I know this might seem awkward to you but believe me it's more awkward to me than you."
He sipped on the chilled water beside him.
While Sophia watched carefully.
"How are you?" He asked suddenly.
"Am fine" she blurted.
"I know it seems not in my position, but I don't mean how are you, my friend is a tough one to be with, he doesn't listen to anyone but himself, and I guess he has been giving you a hard time but I want you to know that you have me to talk to if you ever want to figure out Jason" he laughed at himself.
"Even I too haven't fully figured him out, but I'll try. You are a good person, I can see it in your eyes and I wouldn't want his behavior to affect your good heart."
Sophia didn't know how to react exactly but everyone these days seemed to make their blind assumptions. They see a young girl subjected to an eternal life of sitting on a wheelchair and conclude she was soft and innocent. There was nothing wrong with her being soft and innocent but she was also ductile, that, they didn't know.
Now Sean was here acting like he could read her future and past just by looking in her eyes. Like she was some charity case, of course, she was, who wouldn't feel the same for a cripple. But he was only looking out for her and his friend. Well, she didn't need the pep talk. “he can take it to his friend Jason he needed it more” Sophia thought, bitterly.
"I appreciate your concern but I can manage on my own, I always have."
Sean swallowed his words and nodded.
He stood at his full length intimidating her. She thought he smelled very expensive just like his friend, reminding her of Jason’s expensive scent always left on the other side of her bed telling her he was there in the nighttime but disappeared in the early hours of the morning as usual.
"Well, it was nice meeting you... Mrs. Bestman" he said with a smirk and walked out. Dropping the little bomb like a reminder that she was actually married to his friend and she was now his problem too. Sophia sighed in dejection and rolled her wheelchair to the balcony where she sat to think.
